@Vicenzo

Can you read at all?
"remember he once said that if the east secced the west would secced:" Hey try to learn the correct spelling of the word secede, ok!   What he said was that, if by error of omision or commision, the East was allowed to leave, the West would leave as well. He never told Ojukwu to embark on his self serving escapade. It is only an idioti that would misinterprete what Awo said in Ibadan, in the presence of Ojukwu, to mean that the East should go ahead with their ill advised plan to commit suicide.

But the truth is that awo was a fox,he was never interested in secceding like he made ojukwu believe,he made banjo betray ojukwu: Now I want to believe that was a joke, innit?

ojukwu wasnt able to see through awo's deceit: Even If that was thru, whose fault is it? Should you not be blaming yourself for allowing an ignoramus like Ojukwu lead you into war you could never have won in a million year?

he was so sure that want awo wants is for the west to be freed from the north hence his appointment of a yoruba man to lead the march to lagos.: Go back and read the first paragraph of the article posted by @Katsumoto, and you will realize how stupit you sound. Please read before posting crap.

Sorry, What part of Nigerian constitution said that a president has a superiority of an airspace?

If you do not understand that the president has precedence over everyone else in everything in the country, then I think you should go hang yourself

There is a Yoruba proverb that says: He who is more powerful than you can throw you away.

Yoruba cowardice of course. If there were no northern soldiers in the west our position would be different my balls! The Northern soldiers have 2 heads huh?
The old man nor get shame sef!

You dont have to say that

lets be civil Blazay

You should try and understand his point and the make up of the Military at that point.
The Military then, and to some extent till today, was a northern institution while western education was the forte of the southwest.

The country, then, was lopsided in terms of representation in various institutions and the Yorubas just could not have matched them, skill-wise, nunber-wise, and tactic-wise

Its like white people using their military institution to oppress the Blacks, WTF?

Oh well. . . if you were not going to enlist, then you had no business opening your borders to the Northerners to go on a killing rampage either.
Sir!
Best case scenario. . .you stay neutral. Did you?
Typical Yoruba.
I ask again. . .after all that fancy speech. . .what did Awo do?
He wanted a united Nigeria indeed. Because the British had whispered in your ears that there was oil in the South.
Make I hear sointin I begggi!

It is on record that the west wasnt dealing with Awo. As a matter of fact, they were extremely 'scared' of Awo and Zik. They felt that dealing with them/ empowering them would be at the detriment of the more gullible/impressionable north.

My point is that Awo did what he had to do for his country, not just for his people

Did you read the article posted by Katsumoto?

Nigeria was not a confederation, there were no borders stopping the north from invading the west. The British handed the machineries of the military to the North

All the members of the bodyguard of the Military Governor of the Western Region were Northerners; there were over 36,000 soldiers in the whole of the West, most of whom were Northerners, and all of them carry arms,  I led a delegation to Lt. Col. Gowon on the 7th and at that interview I made it clear on behalf of the West that if the soldiers of Northern origin were not removed from the West we would not attend any further meetings of the Ad Hoc Committee. He said he would do something, of course he did not. We passed our resolution (THAT THE NORTHERN SOLDIERS SHOULD BE REMOVED FROM THE WEST) and Col. Adebayo did very well and give us certain Yoruba officers with whom to go and deliver the petition to Lt. Col. Gowon. I did give him an ultimatum up to the 15th of May to remove these Northern soldiers from the West. Of course, he agreed to remove them by the 31st of May but the time we returned to Ibadan Northern soldiers had taken up arms and wanted to kill me, to kill Adebayo and all others,  Just now Adebayo does not sleep in his house.

Honestly, Awo played both sides. He sat on the fence. He was not honest.
What did he stand to gain but to save the Yoruba special neck in the whole process?
Ojukwu was stubborn. He was short-sighted and dogmatic in his views. He ewunded up making a worse mistake than Nzeogwu.
Knowing that the war was inevitable, Awo should have supported Ojukwu to avoid the North invading Biafra. It was open Sesame on Biafra from then on,

If you were an Iraqi in 2003, would you have advised your loved ones to enlist in the Iraqi army? Knowing fully well that the US Army was just unmatchable, both in skill and tactics.
Did you see this:
Awo: .   .   .You are remote from the West; you have advantages which we do not possess. We cannot rush without rushing to our death at the same time. . .

That right there is extrememly powerful. Even though he wasnt a military guy, he understood the situation perfectly. There was no way he could have stopped the north from invading Biafra, when Ojukwu was bent on leaving anyways. He wanted a UNITED Nigeria, not a fragmented one. He understood very much that we are stronger together. And he was for that.

Just be honest for once!

But hey. . .being the promise of abandoned property to the Ijaws and other non-speaking Igbo Southerners was too much to pass up.
It was open Sesame on Biafra from then on.

Treachery upon treachery.

Here we are today. . . back to square one.

He articulated the difficult position the Yorubas were in

He wanted a UNITED Nigeria

He also wanted the East to be present at the meeting to present their concerns themselves inorder to avoid any confusion

He showed great knowledge, patience, skill, candor, warmth, and genuine interest in the affairs the Igbos

Even, if he was neutral as you claimed, what is wrong with that?
He did not decieve anyone, and surely did not lie to anybody.
He presented his case the best way possible, that even a dimwit would have understood
You really cannot fault him
He was simple flawless

Ojukwu is to be BLAMED for BIAFRA 100%, No?
