Business / Re: Do Anyone Know The Cost On Import Duty On Palm Stearine? by tdops: 6:01am On May 24, 2016 |
Thanks a lot. I have checked the custom website and the duty is 5% and let's assume that the VAT is 10% At official rates it makes sense but at black market rate it won't add up. I work on this. Thanks a lot |
Business / Do Anyone Know The Cost On Import Duty On Palm Stearine? by tdops: 7:59am On May 21, 2016 |
Hello All, As the current local cost of Palm Stearine has skyrocketed - PZ/Wilmar(N350K/MT) and Slabmark (N300K/MT) - from about N220K/MT just 3 months ago, do any one know the cost of duty if we try to import Palm Stearine ourselves? I have received various quotes and the international prices are between $600 and $800 per MT on CIF to Apapa but I am not really sure on the cost of Duty. Please do any one have an idea on the duty costs on Palm Stearine? Also, if you know any other local suppliers of Palm Stearine or Tallow at reasonable prices, I will really appreciate it. Thanks!!! |

Hey J, I appreciate your efforts on this. why dont you put up a page that calls the web-services so that we can all see? I am mainly interested as i currently use Icecat and my folks are pushing to go into some other channels (CNet and Co). If we (or I) can see demo then we may just be convinced that it worth the effort. It does not really need to be anything fanciful.. Just a thot from an onlooker..... |
Computers / Are Their Any Tier 4 Data Centres In Nigeria? by tdops: 4:22pm On Aug 17, 2012 |
Dear Nairalanders, I am aware that most Naija folks now host their content abroad using Amazon, Hostgator and RackSpace as everyone now have access to international payment cards. I also know some Naija hosting companies are also pulling their weights (reselling plans also hosted abroad) but the fact still remains that most of our local content are hosted abroad including this very platform. Unfortunately, this also includes our banks that all sign up with Dimension Data (famously known as DD) who also ships all our personal details to be hosted in South Africa Now the question remains that, how come no one in Nigeria has identified this gap and jumped to fill it? I know that money is not a problem as a lot of Nigerians are sitting on pots of Gold. Are there are they are political challenges or regulations? Infrastructure is not a problem as we have all these Independent Power Projects (IPPs) and access to dark fibre on MainOne, Glo1, WACS and our legacy SAT3. So why has no one identified this opportunity? If there are any Data Centres (Not the basement of Mobil or MTN’s room at Philips Ojota), please provide details and if possible their AS Numbers |

Hello Nairalanders, Does any one know if there are any open source projects that are driven by Nigerians or aimed specifically empowering Nigerians or solving Nigerian specific problems? I have heard of Inye which is more of a device that cost lower but I am more interested in applications that specifically aimed at solving Nigerian problems. Any information will be helpful |

luluosas: Is Glo really loyal to Nigeria? Did they not move their call centres to Ghana? How many Nigerian graduates has Glo trained? They prefer to bring in Illiterate Indians to oppress Nigerian university graduates that work for them, Please do not be loyal to rubbish cos Glo does not care one bit about Nigeria, it only care about it profits, Even MTN that is not a Nigerian company cares a lot about Nigeria far more than Glo does, |

My rep for Glo has finally dropped. I thought they are a world class company! Haven't any of the Glo Network Designers or Engineers heard of the term "Disaster Recovery"? This means their network design is not redundant and Mutalab can wear his sexy nappies to any of their "Key sites" then bring their whole network down! Now that the whole world knows that they have a crappy design, they will definitely be a target for wannabe hackers, |
Web Market / Nairahost Finally Says Bye Bye To Nigeria by tdops: 3:57pm On Aug 01, 2010 |
Got this email from Nairahost and thought i share !!!! Starting from the 3rd of August, Nairahost Nig Ltd would be operating under a new management and would no longer operate from the Nigerian office or as a Nigerian company but would still serve the interest of the Nigerian market in a more specialised way. This arrangement was put into action to mitigate and solve the operational conflicts with both our previous shareholders and stakeholders. I am taking full responsibility for all the past problems, as I have forsaken many of our original customers that have been with us for a long time. I was myopic with the assumption that changes would be in effect and your experience would be relevant with a local business prescence. It was a biz strategic mistake and I extend my apologies. We became what we are not because we were in Nigeria or a local Nigerian company, but we did so through the impecable services we rendered in the past 3 years over our 4years of doing business in Nigeria. This is exactly what we plan to do henceforth. Nairahost Nig Ltd's GTB Bank account would still be active for the Nigerian customers interested in patronizing my services, but this service would no longer be supported from the Nigerian office, as this would be operated primarily from Nairahost offices overseas. Generis Solutions is no longer a local Nigerian partner and henceforth any problems you encounter should be addressed to us via email, support ticket, online chatroom or via the new phone number available on our website. This communication channels would be available from the effective date of this changes. All pre-existing staff or support crew that you have previously interacted with do no longer work with Nairahost. Hence, we advise against interacting or dealing with them, should you choose to do so, you do so at your own risk. I have put these restructuring changes into action and henceforth I would formally take all the responsibilities for your experience as I am officially taking over Nairahost Nig Ltd and moving the operation Overseas. Pending Transfer Resolution. If you are an old customer that belongs to the previous structure and you are in the process of moving to a new host and you are still having issues doing so, please send a brief email to transfers@nairahost.com stating 1. The Domain Name 2. The problem you are encountering 3. What you want us to send you or what you want us to do for you. We would be happy to retain your services but should you have decided to migrate elsewhere, we would help in ensuring that you do not face problems doing so. If you have opted in for the new structure, I would be calling you personally in the coming weeks to discuss how this new arrangement would work for you, and how we can work together into delivering just what you need to make your experience worthwhile. Your would now have a chance to enjoy all the promised support, a signed Service Level Agreement and specialised relationship with me. This new changes means, Nairahost would no longer use a Nigerian support crew to address your problems, and all the previous accounts that somewhat are still active on the old structure would no longer be active. The new premium fee that is chargeable per account would not change for the following reasons. 1. The need to maintain a small number of premium customers, as we find it effective to serve a specific market segment. 2. The need to be able to communicate on a personalized level with our customers 3. The need to be able to control the kind of customers we retain and keep on our servers. If you do have evidence that your account has been unfairly suspended or terminated due to this arrangement, send an email to complaints@nairahost.com and we are sure we would have either an explanation or a fix to your issue. Once again below are the correspondence email. PENDING TRANSFERS OUT: transfers@nairahost.com COMPLAINTS : complaints@nairahost.com The old support emails would no longer be working and if you are a premium customer, you would get a new contact email for future correspondence. The best way to get pass IP restrictions is to get a friend in the US or UK to set up a VPN for you to dial into or better still pay someone to set up the VPN for you. Setting up VPNs on an existing internet connection is free and easy. Thats the only way you can get a foreign IP. Most serious websites block out online proxies. |

We had the same problems with Nairahost and we were forced to move all our domains to www.ideyforhere.com after we did not have access to Nairahost's control panel for over a month!!! To be sincere, Nairahost was a good gig while it lasted and we where quite happy with them until they decided to go premium. Anyways it was a blessing on our side as it motivated us to leave our comfort zone and look for alternatives which we do not regret at all. I have the feeling that they will survive as some people will be interested in premium services just like how some people are interested in buying Lamborghinis. I do wish them all the best but the ship do sail and aint looking back |
Web Market / Re: Web Hosting Companies in Nigeria by tdops: 8:35am On Jul 27, 2010 |
I just voiced my honest opinion because of folks and companies like you. I work for a Web development agency in Nigeria and have suffered in the hands of fake and incompetent webhosting companies (Maybe i am still fuming from our experience with Nariahost). However, i will give you just 3 reasons why i think the darock Projects are far better than vbhostnet after a quick glance at both websites. 1. Reseller Hosting - The guys at darock Projects prices includes domain registration for 5, 15 and 30 domains, meaning, we dont have to keep shuttling the bank to pay for domain registration. On the other hand vbhostnet, like most other hosting companies in Nigeria offers reseller hosting with a single domain registration. Why on earth will I be interested in buying 30 hosting spaces without registering new domains? duh? 2. There is a live support button on the darock Projects website that actually works!! Ehm, last time i checked, vbhostnet only had a phone number. Why should i waste my time dialing? 3. At least for a technology company, the guys at darock Projects seem to be forward thinking and have a social networking presence with over 120 people on their facebook page. To us this means that they are in all the way and wont be packing up soon. Of course they still have their flaws such like using a crap bank like Diamond Bank and asking clients to pay extra for telephone support which is even an international line but for us they work perfectly for now and we are very happy. So my guy, i am happy with their service and thats why i am bigging them up here. Most importantly, the objective of this post is for people to leave feedbacks here to maybe help someone in the future and not to advertise!!! At the end of the day, you cant force people to buy your products. |
Web Market / Re: Web Hosting Companies in Nigeria by tdops: 9:42am On Jul 26, 2010 |
Hello All, This thread was kind of helpful for us in looking for a new webhost after Nairahost decided to give us (and many of their other customers) the boot for their so called "premium" customers. So we have decided give back to the community. We needed a NIGERIAN hosting company so that we can easily contact them if we have any issues or need any technical help. To cut the long story short, this was like looking for a pin in the ocean. Thanks to one of my boss friend, we came across a company called darock Projects that is based in the UK and they had a site dedicated to Nigeria www.ideyforhere.com The best thing about this guys is that they are always on Skype and you can easily call them. We opted for the Mega Reseller thingy (to prevent going back and forth to the bank) which we had to pay into a Diamond Bank Account (even though we wished it was GTB!) but the main advantage is that they prepaid our account and we could register domains in Minutes and also bring up websites within 30 mins without contacting them. They also accept Paypal and i think they are in the process of selcting between Interswitch and Valucard for local Nigerian payments. One more advantage (at least for us) is that there is Nigerian guy there called Tola, who is very helpful, even with non hosting related issues ?(abeg make una no over burden the guy o!). At least he understands how we think and run things in Naija. Anyways, is just my objective view and they may be worth checking out. If any other person has any experience with them i wish they can also testify so that it wont be like i am doing some cheap marketing fro them. Peace Out!!! |
Webmasters / Re: Pls I Need Ng Online Payment Gateway by tdops: 11:25am On Apr 14, 2010 |
I have had experience with the 2 major ones, Interswitch and VPay and my advise is that you stick to Interswitch!!! Its either VPay does not have a clue about the business or their staff are just incompetent. They wasted my time for 3 months and felt like they were doing me a favour even when i am the paying customer!!! Yes, i am still angry!!! On the other hand, even though Interswitch do not reply emails to the email address on their website but at least if you turn up at thier office they will see you. I sent my cousin there and within a week i was up and running. And it cost 150,000 Naira but if you open an account with GTB, you can get it for 75,000 Naira I wish all the best |
Webmasters / Re: Hand Coding And Dreamweaving. by tdops: 12:49am On Jan 16, 2010 |
Back to the initial question DW or hand coding? IMHO, i will suggest whatever makes you very productive. DW is very good and i will always recommend that route but i have met some old developers that prefers to hand code and this mainly because they see coding like writing an essay and they don't like to be distracted by tools that claim to make life easier. But as I said earlier its your productivity that really matters at the end of the day! As per CMS, why on earth will any one try to build one from scratch nowadays? Thats so old school. Why reinvent the wheel? I will suggest you "start your journey on the shoulder of giants" by customising or extending CMS tools like Joomla or Drupal. Just Imagine Seun Nairaland saying he wants to build a a forum app for Nairaland from scratch, i can bet the site will be down in 2 days!!! Anyways, i will leave you with some tips. To be a good Web/Multimedia Developer you first need to use the right tools For Illustrations, Logos, Layouts, Resizable vectors - Use Adobe Illustrator or Corel Draw Once you have completed your illustrations and need to finalise you interface with images - Use Photoshop After you a happy with a static version of your work - Open the PSD in Fireworks and do your slicing there and save your images. No one use tables any more, so finalise you work in Dreamweaver by applying CSS themes, DW CS4 is wonderful for CSS. You get your HTML, ASPX, etc from there Nowadays, 90% of developers dont even go through that stress any more, they buy templates as cheap $30 or 700 Naira and start from there buy customising it in photoshop. Most templates have been sliced already so you just open in fireworks and you are good to go! Examples of templates can be found at http://www.darockprojects.com/dtemplates/ Ok, i have said too much i wish you all the best!!! |
