The Rot at Federal College of Education, Zaria.
When most people hear of corruption, their minds race quickly to the images of politicians, but that isn’t the real situation. A society’s leaders are a reflection of the society after all the leaders are a product of the community. A rotten society will produce rotten leaders and the circle of dooms spins till infinity. Most people abusing and insulting the politicians in power will do worse if they are given such opportunity. This is obvious considering that most people in civil service, business world and security outfits haven’t managed the resources and responsibilities given to them better than the politicians and dictators, that have raped Nigeria’s commonwealth.
Though corruption has become so widespread in Nigeria today, that some feel that the only hope is palliative, others like the current president; Buhari, believes that the war can be won. Be that as it may, the corruption in some sectors must be fought as a matter of live and death. One of such sectors is the education ministry. Some time ago, there was call for a state of emergency to be declared in the education sector, the relevance of such noble call cannot be over emphasized considering that that sector will determine the fate of Nigeria for centuries to come. It gets even scarier when this is happening in an institution whose sole purpose is to train teachers who will teach our children!
The Colleges of Education in Nigeria have no doubt trained great teachers who taught some of us in public institutions but the situation in FCE Zaria needs urgent attention of the National union of teachers and the ministry of education. Students in NCE 2 and 3 cannot make a sentence in English language, it doesn’t stop there, majority of them as well cannot write the alphabets properly. One begins to wonder how they are taught in the classrooms? In Hausa language? You guess is as good as mine. These students were admitted into NCE 1 with WAEC and JAMB, they were admitted with a credit in English language. How then can someone with a C6 in English language not be able to respond appropriately to the greeting ‘How are you’? There are unconfirmed rumors that the administration frowns at the obviously deficient students being failed in exams hence their high pass rate despite being grossly deficient. A forensic perusal of the students answer booklets by any genuine investigative panel will reveal the bare truth. In as much as we try to nudge these students along, we must not go below the minimal standard, sadly FCE Zaria has gone way below the barest minimum and I sincerely hope the case is different in other colleges of education.
The poor academic standard in the college was not all I noticed during a month stint at Zaria, it seemed there were many other ills pulling such a great institution to the mud. When one hears sorrowful stories of people not paid their dues, one thinks perhaps of the state civil servants of Benue, Osun, Kogi and the statue state; Imo. it is a different ball game in the federal civil service as their payment history is a lot better than states in terms of promptness and regularity. This wasn’t the case in FCE Zaria as the health center wasn’t spared. I had gone with a very sick staff to the clinic on a Saturday around 2-3pm only to be told that there was no doctor! In a college with students? What if it was an asthmatic attack or snake bite? I was later reliably informed that the doctor covering that time of the day had to disengage after not being payed for 5 months! Even the NYSC doctors who take calls were not paid. The question that nagged me was; where the salaries of these workers not captured in the FG allocation to the school? If not why? If yes, where has it gone to? Why is NHIS not sending money to the school to cover its scheme and other related affairs? When I came back with my friend after seeing a doctor in a clinic in kongo, we got the NHIS prescription to the school only to discover they didn’t have any of the drugs! So, what is happening. Aside the health department, many other workers have been owed for months without any reason from the bursar except what they say is his favourite line; ‘there is no money’
When Buhari chanted Change, it was a call for us all. If we desire a change, we must ensure we strive to do the right things. Its is due to this academic nose dive in institutions of learning like this that caused the educational embarrassment seen in Kaduna state when Gov. El rufai exposed the rot in the system. If the Provost Dr. Ladan and other admin officers cannot steer this institution away from the abyss where its headed, then I hope the Honorable Minister of Education Mallam Adamu Adamu find competent people to do the work. This I believe should be applied in any college with such attributes amongst its students. It should be viewed as a criminal act for a student not being able to defend his WAEC result and yet is about to finish NCE 3. On the issue of non-payment of salaries, I hope the Federal Government lives up to its responsibility by paying the school’s due allocation subsequently. However, if they are being paid and yet some lecturers, general duty staff and even doctors aren’t paid their salaries, then I hope the appropriate financial crimes agencies get to work on this.

BIAFRA:➡️ ANAMBRA GUBER; BIAFRANS SHOULD CHOOSE LIFE OVER DEATH AND SUBJUGATION BY BOYCOTTING THE ELECTION....

By Onoja Christian Obinna || For Biafra Writers
November 9, 2017

In many of my previous articles, I tried to elaborate to Biafrans the reason they should not partake in the forthcoming Anambra gubernatorial election which has been scheduled to hold on the 18th of November, 2017 and this time around, in desperation to know if the Most High God is so much in support of the election boycott, I sought out for His Words to buttress the assertion of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Mazi Nnamdi Kanu who stands as a prophet to this generation of Biafrans.

Lo and behold 2Kings 18 Vs 32 outrightly stated it very clearly as we are experiencing in Nigeria today as it proclaims thus:
“Until I come and take you to a land like your own— a land of grain and new wine, a land of bread and vineyards, a land of olive trees and honey. Choose life and not death! “Do not listen to Hezekiah (Ohaneze Ndi Igbo, Political elites, Prominent rich men and women, Political church leaders, etc) for he is misleading you when he says, ‘The Lord will deliver us; "from British enclave of slavery called Nigeria".

The onus probandi is heavily lying on the shoulders of all the Biafra citizens to ensure that this very opportunity which is about to present itself is properly and ultimately utilized to avoid a perpetual had I known cry that the near future generation will never forgive us of.

Mazi Nnamdi Kanu the eminent leader have graded the way to our eternal freedom together with our fallen heroes and heroines alongside our many other comrades who are languishing in various Nigerian prisons for the sake of Biafra restoration.

Deuteronomy 30 Vs 19 vividly states thus:
“This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live.”

It is worthy to note that the choice to freedom from Nigeria's(bondage) grip is a task that awaits all true Biafrans. So therefore, Biafrans should know that Nnamdi Kanu have totally performed his duties towards Biafra restoration and the Will to be free is now shouldered on their response towards the election boycott of November 18th knowing that you can only take a horse to the stream but you can never force it to drink the water.

Nnamdi Kanu have led Biafrans out through the right path to freedom and it is now the time for the masses to affirm with him that freedom is all what Biafrans need by boycotting the Anambra gubernatorial election of 18th November 2017. Recall that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu have always proclaimed his resoluteness towards the Biafra project and have vowed never to disappoint Biafrans rather his disappointment will come from Biafrans and it is time for Biafrans to prove to him and the people of the world that it is still Biafra or nothing come November 18th.

It is apparent that the political leaders in all Biafra territory are extremely desperate to keep Biafrans in perpetual subjugation and slavery under the control of the Hausa/Fulani oligarchy but the choice of freedom is in the hands of the people that even Almighty God himself have given humanity the freedom of choice making that Himself cannot utter but can only advice as seen in Deuteronomy 30 Vs 19.

Therefore Biafrans, do not let anyone to write your history for you but take the challenge to define yourself through making proper use of your freedom of choice for it only demands a challenge to make a Life Hero, so therefore, take up the challenge of November 18th and make yourselves a living heroes.

Choose Biafra and have life to enjoy by boycotting every elections in Biafra land or vote and remain living dead in Nigeria which is the desire of the politicians and the rich people.

Boycott all Nigerian elections now,
Take up the challenge to be a hero,
Biafra restoration is sure.

B-I-A-F-R-A: GOWON AND THE LAGOS-REVISED EDITION OF THE ABURI ACCORD.....

Odira O. Udozo ll For Biafra Writers
November 9 2017

If wishes were horses, beggars would ride. One wish that many would have made today would be to have the time machine of H.D Weil’s science fiction published in 1895. According to Weil, the machine afforded one the opportunity to travel in time either into the future or into the past. Imagine exploring the events of all the years since creation; the religious and the atheists can once and for all decide if we came from the Supreme being or the big bang, Christians and Muslims can watch in 3D the real passion of Christ to decipher if it was really Christ that was crucified or a clone, or going into the future to see if Arsenal football club will ever win the champions league title. It will help decimate many high degree conspiracies that have continued to oil the wheel of discord in our everyday lives.

In some cases, however, with a lot of written and even audio conversations, many might not undergo a time travel to arrive at the most likely scenario. One of such cases is the Aburi meeting of 1967 held in Ghana; a meeting hosted by Gen. Ankrah of Ghana, and attended by Nigeria's Eastern Military Government led by Colonel Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu and the then Federal Military Government of Nigeria led by Gen. Yakubu Gowon (both having served with Gen Ankrah in African Peace Mission prior to 1967).

This is because recently, Gowon stated in an interview with a media house that Ojukwu’s lies caused the brutal civil war. According to the former Head of State, Ojukwu unilaterally announced something different from their agreement at Aburi, and that they agreed on keeping Nigeria one. What then stops Gowon from telling us what he agreed to in Aburi, being conscious of the fact that the audio recordings are still available till date? For the people to concur with Gowon's assertion that Ojukwu announced a false version of their agreement at Aburi, he should furnish us with the ‘Original version then, but it seems Gowon’s ‘original version’ was decided and fabricated in Lagos.

The Accord which can be accessed with this address; [http://emeagwali.com/biafra/nigeria-biafra-civil-war-aburi-accord-ghana-official-records.html], states amongst others; “With a view to promoting mutual confidence, all decrees or provisions of decrees passed since January 15, 1966, which detracted from the previous powers and positions of the Regional Governments should be repealed. Law officers of the Federation should meet in Benin on January 14, 1967, and list all the decrees or provisions of Decrees concerned, so that they may be repealed not later than January 21, 1967, if possible”.

Now, how does returning to the regions as we had earlier in 1960 amount to secession? Some said that regionalism at that time will afford Ojukwu ample time to plan for secession. One thing is certain, people are not judged on what they intend to do or on presumption but on what they have done. At that period when the East was hemorrhaging, nothing but a return to regionalism would have led us out of the woods. Today, the consequences of unitary system led by the northern hegemony abounds for all to see; perhaps there wouldn’t have been a Biafra war, no Asaba massacre, no Niger Delta uprising and the development in the regions today would have been miles away from the pitiable Nigerian state, where many states can’t even pay salaries to their workers anymore.

From most accounts of other Nigerian government delegates at Aburi, they never said Ojukwu announced a false agreement. A perusal of the interview of Chief Phillip Asiodu with the Nigerian voice dated April 11, 2012, one could infer from Asodu’s narrative the perception that either Gowon never understood fully what he agreed to, or he understood but was made to see the negative implication such agreement will have on selfish northern and colonial interests when he arrived Lagos.

Furthermore, the memo dated January 8, 1967, which began with: “Your Excellency, in view of my discussion with you last night, I am raising this memo in the interest of our fatherland, Nigeria” by Prince Samuel Akenzua; a then permanent secretary in the ministry of health (he later became Oba Erediauwa, the 38th Oba of Benin); gives credence to Ojukwu’s belief on why Gowon reneged on their agreement. Ojukwu in one of the interviews on NTA was of the opinion that Gowon was not the problem, but rather some permanent secretaries, regional stalwarts and even foreign diplomats in Lagos, because so long as the meeting at Aburi was concerned, everything went vizuri (as said in Swahili). If on reaching Nigeria, the Federal military government decides to renege on the Accord reached for whatsoever reason, they should be bold enough to own up and not try to mutate history.

It has been 50 yrs since Aburi and we are yet at another crossroad in the Nigerian odyssey, some are calling for a return to Aburi, some are yelling Araba while the descendants of the powerful permanent secretaries and regional hegemonies want the status quo untouched. Whichever route being taken, negotiations and agreements must be involved, and if those reached 50yrs ago are still being coated with falsehood by obvious quarters, then new ones that may be made in the course of navigating out of the political impasse in Nigeria today, may end up as Aburi did.

SHADY MILITARY MEDICAL OUTREACH AND THE LEGITIMATE SUSPICION BY BIAFRANS

Public health is the branch of medicine that specializes in preventing the occurrence and spread of diseases unlike the other branches like internal medicine, surgery that deals with curative. Public health deals with the people in their own constituency; it doesn’t wait for patients in the hospitals but rather seeks them out in their homes, places of work, schools, etc. Public health intervention ranges from national emergencies like in the case of ebola, lassa fever carried out by a coalition of health experts to simple outreach embarked upon by even medical students. In all scenarios, one thing is pivotal, the target community must be duly informed and consent sought (except perhaps in the case where people infected with lassa or ebola were isolated with or without their consent for obvious reasons).
The drama that played out last week in parts of Biafraland where he military were said to have taken a medical outreach of idiopathic intents to schools is highly condemnable to say the least.one wonders if there weren’t any public health specialist with the ranks of the military to advise them adequately? Firstly, the fact that they planned an outreach in schools without prior permission from the state ministries of health and education depicts the military as either oblivious of the fact that they submit to civilian authority or they were being mischievous. The Bayelsa state government released a communique directing any of such outreach to have permit from the state ministries of health and education, meaning they were not aware ab initio; Isn’t this a total disregard of constituted civilian authority in eastern Nigeria and elsewhere by the Nigerian Military?
Secondly, in saner climes, giving medicines to minors without parental consent can be termed criminal, but here in Nigeria anything goes. If the military must administer whatever they wanted to administer in its outreach, why did they believe the parents had no right to know or even decide if they want their children to partake? Do they even know that parents can decline such services? From the news that made the rounds, some schools had to close so that students can go home to evade the forceful vaccination ; had the military left the schools when turned down by some principals who obviously never knew of such outreach until that morning, there won’t be need to shut the schools. The military may have insisted on carrying it out as they had unilaterally scheduled, what then is the emergency they have on their hands that can’t wait for proper sensitization; that even the state ministry of health is unaware of? A lot of questions indeed to be asked but it seems the military and those that control it don’t give a damn.
They have contravened the section of the Hippocratic oath which stipulates that the physician must do no harm in carrying out its duties to the patient. Aside the physical injuries the pupils must have sustained running away from a perceived danger, the mental and psychological trauma might not leave those children for a long time to come; health is after all a state of complete physical, mental and social wellbeing and not the absence of disease or infirmity.
Many people have linked this face off to the python dance saga in the east, they accuse the biafrans of being paranoid. They say there are igbos, ibibios, ijaws etc in the Nigerian military, so there cant be a deliberate policy by the military to harm easterners. There are black cops within the American police force, that hasn’t stopped the American police in some states from being allegedly anti-black, with a lot of assault on black by white cops cases pending in court. Where were the ijaws in the military when odi was levelled? The lopsided composition of the Nigerian military is not an unknown fact, why wont the biafrans not be defensive considering their meagre representation in the upper echelons of the armed forces?
The Nigerian state hasn’t only lost this generation of easterners, it seems the coming ones are already lost as well. Seeing those children using an adrenaline surge to flee from soldiers that were supposed to be theirs, soldiers they were supposed to approach for photographs and be proud of, shows the level of disenchantment the biafrans have for the Nigerian state and what it represents.
