They are still banned. You run the risk of losing your money if you attempt to smuggle them.

These Hausa know the Igbo boys will melt the black off their skin if they do anything ridiculous.

Jos was an example. They bombed igbos for reasons beyond logic and igbos smoked those ugly ingrates out of every suya shop in sight

the result? they attack christian again, but in a rare instance, it was a non igbo village.

it's sad the Yoruba man is a born coward but if igbos have to be the vanguard of bravery and surivial of sanity in nigeria then we are more then up for the task. We have been stock piling russian weapons since 2000 and these guys are still swinging sticks and making noise.

I would love too see these uneducated cow blood drinking people try.

This is a classic example of how Nigerian leaders use religion and ethnicity to divert attention from real issues.
Someone should ask the Sultan why he thinks the COAS is being asked to resign because of his religion.
I think Nigerians should begin to see through the insincerity of these people.

Politics / Re: No Southern president in 2011 –Ogbulafor D by Tuyis: 3:19am On Mar 05, 2010
Sky Blue:

Amusing how you dodge the points raised. I genuinely mean no offence, but please no need for stating such obvious things like 'the president does not govern alone' it dodges the issue and is a tad condenscending. I simply said you should at least be honest when arguing based on your stance and watch the use of superlatives like "best", when the system you propose is not actually searching for that.

With regards to the part in bold, I find it even more amusing that you believe a system of rotation would not continue to put ethnic politics on the front burner as opposed to governance, credible candidates and performance. The only way I will support rotational presidency is if it is rotated among the 250+ ethnic groups, simple. So why this opposition to true rotation? What is the north? Is the north an ethnic group? Is the south an ethnic group? It is quite insulting and to be honest reeks of ethnic chauvinism (in my opinion a major cause of the ethnic tension in places like the Niger Delta) when someone says things like "let us give it to the south south this time". Is south south an ethnic group? Do you know how many ethnic groups are in the middle belt? Do you know how many ethnic groups are in the south south? So do you now see how silly it is when you say your proposed panacea to the problem would be to say, 'ok, south south or wherever, it is your turn to rule, everyone from there sort yourself out and give us a candidate'? This will defuse ethnic paranoia of other groups dictating to them and reduce tensions how?!! Unless we are ready to do this rotational thing well, please spare the excuses because it it just down right patronising and insulting. What is the fear? If people really want to rotate presidency then let us do it properly.

If Nigeria is to break, a significant reason would be because of this silly and arrogant WAZOBIA attitude the country has adopted. We can rotate among everybody properly so it is truely suited to our peculiar situation and respective of everyone; or we can just have free, fair and open elections for the presidency, while decentralising power from Abuja. But please, enough with the hypocrisy and enough with the arguement that rotation is to give everybody a shot, because it isn't. Rotation is simply a means of keeping power within a select group. What if after how ever many years the presidency returns to say the Middlebelt, and last time it went to a particular ethnic group; what is to say it can't go to that same ethnic group again and what is to say such a result won't cause tension? You want to deal with all the problem that goes with division along ethnic lines by instigating an unbalanced political system based on ethnicity?

The problem with your position is that every time there is an election in Nigeria where there is a Yoruba, Hausa or an Igbo candidate vying for the presidency, it always degenerate into a kind of ethnic battle and the voices of the minority groups are invariably drowned.

I am scratching my head, I can't find a situation where you throw open an election for all Nigerians and there is not an Hausa, Yoruba or Igbo. It is the way it has always been in Nigeria. But, if you have a better idea, Iam certainly open for it.

Also, there is nothing chauvinistic about rotational presidency, it is actually meant to prevent that. I don't understand what is chauvinistic about my position.
Politics / Re: No Southern president in 2011 –Ogbulafor D by Tuyis: 2:33am On Mar 05, 2010
Each of the six geographical zones in Nigeria is big enough to stand alone as a country, the notion that you cannot at any given time find one person from each zone who is capable of leading Nigeria is laughable.
The president  is just a president, he is not God, he can never govern alone.
Whatever he can do, there are probably a thousand more who can do the same or even better. It is up to the political parties to throw up the best candidates.
If you think you are Nigeria's Obama and it's not your turn, just wait. besides, here are many other ways to serve your country.
Our own democracy does not have to look like anyone elses, we have to take into account our own peculiar situations and act accordingly.

Reading some of the comments here, you will think you are reading about a different country and not Nigeria. How long ago was it when people were complaining about the North monopolizing power, have we forgotten so soon?
The only thing that is truly capable of tearing Nigeria assunder is power struggle between the ethnic groups, if it is not addressed one way or the other we are inadvertently working towards a self fulfilling prophecy that Nigeria will break up one day in the future.

Presently in Nigeria if you are applying for an international passport, you have to write your state of origin. So, I believe everyone has a state of origin but I'm sorry, I'm not in a position to determine who belongs where.

Tuyis: It doesn't have a constitutional backing yet. We r talking about what is and not what should be, cause that is utopian judging from the inability of the house to act accordingly in the past

What we have right now is a mockery of democracy. If Nigeria must move forward, they better start working, otherwise we are just going around in a circle.

[A rotational arrangement should have a term limit in order to prevent the same problem it was meant to solve.]

Tuyis: Since in this case the rotational arrangement is not written in contract or constitution, how do you propose to limit the next president to one ter,? considering he would be in power?

I wrote earlier that this arrangement should have a constitutional backing.

Fhemmmy:

According to OBJ some years back, he said, a president cant get anything done in 4 years, so if we have one term presidency under rotational presidency, would you agree that, we are just doing nonsense then?

Note, i am never in support of what OBJ said oh

I don't believe there is any contradiction here. I do believe a president can achieve a lot in four or five years.
Fhemmmy:

i am not agreeing with you that no one knows Obama till 2008, anyone that is into politics already know the dude.
he was the talk of politics some years before that with his speech.

So what is wrong with the pictures that:
We conduct primaries and them produce a leader based on who people wants and not based on what zone they are from.

I asked a question earlier and no one has answered that

Mr A is from the North and marry a woman from the South and they have a Son and the son leaves in the East, now, what level or zone can that boy run for?

I find that amusing, as long as the son is a bonafide Nigerian, it is up to the electorate or the constitution to determine where he can run for. This is not enough to render the system unworkable.
Politics / Re: No Southern president in 2011 –Ogbulafor D by Tuyis: 6:35pm On Mar 04, 2010

Guess our politicians lack the ability to think ahead. So what would happen in 2015?  If Yaradua is unable to complete his tenure and a new President from the North rules from 2011 to 2015, I am sure it would be difficult to stop a sitting president from going for a second term, especially as he would readily tell you he is not Yaradua who spent the first term.

A rotational arrangement should have a one term limit in order to prevent the same problem it was meant to solve.

Fhemmmy:

So now when zones are rotating, what would happen if tribes within the zones feels they are being dominated?
Would we have to start rotating tribes too?

It's a democracy, they can start their own local rotational arrangement. The beauty of this is that, power struggle will be localized and between parties and individuals. It will no longer be ethnic based which is the cause of political instability in Nigeria.

In any free and fair election, any party, be it PDP or not, that presents a scrappy candidate will lose. It is as simple as that.

Fhemmmy:

How would u know the best candiate?
You can only know someone that you know . . . .so how do u know the best candidate, when he is only known to his people?

That will be for Nigerians to decide and that is part of democracy, but the fear of domination of one ethnic group over the other would have been eliminated.

What is the point of every Nigeria voting for them.
Mind you out of the 5, 3 might not be nationally known, and 2 are cabals, so how fair would such vote be?
What will be the basis of the voting?

If elections were free and fair, Nigerians will vote for the best candidates.

Lol
I am loving the way u dialogue, at least we are not insultive . .  . . Great
Now here are my question.
When it is turn of NW to lead, would the NE, SS, SW and SE have to vote as well?

This is how it works. Assuming it is the turn of NW to lead, let us say there are five political parties, each of them will present a candidate from that zone and all Nigerians will vote for the one they consider the best. Simple. I think the term limit should be five years though.

Do is that Democracy?
How will the election be conducted, when other zones cant contest cos their zone cant be the president till another 8 years

Of course it is democracy. Democracy in USA is not the same as democracy in France or UK. This arrangement will be our own unique solution to our unique problem.
What is needed though are strong institutions to make sure no one pursues any ethnic agenda.
Each zone will simply wait it's turn.

There are better ways to give sense of belong without compromising competency
OBJ was the president, we have Soludo, Finance minister was not Yoruba woman, Ribadu was in taking care of fraud . . . . .That is how you give sense of belonging, without having to settle for less as the head of the nation.

Please note that i am not a blver of OBJ oh

You don't have to sacrifice competency, because there is no part of Nigeria that cannot at any given time find a competent person to lead Nigeria.
Politics / Re: No Southern president in 2011 –Ogbulafor D by Tuyis: 5:17pm On Mar 04, 2010
This is one of the things the National Assembly should be working on. The Zoning arrangement is a good way to stabilize the polity and give the ethnic groups a sense of belonging.
I believe it can be perfected and included in the constitution.
In the spirit of fairness, I don't see anything wrong in the presidency going to the North in 2011 as long as the president can provide a purposeful leadership for all Nigerians.

I don't see why these Yorubas are gloating. The Hausa still treat them like houseboys.

A Hausa man knows that an Igbo man is not afraid of him, and the Hausa man knowns that the Yorubas are cowards opportunistic. That is why they show much disdain for them.

While the Yoruba think they have a "superior" culture, but produce weak men.
