To reduce activities of global email scam artists, the United States of America has arrested 30 Nigerians in a coordinated crackdown on persons who convince respondents to wire them money through fraudulent activities. In the swipe on fraudulent activities, which also involved 44 nationals from other countries, the U.S. said such scams are prevalent and pledged to pursue perpetrators regardless of where they are located. Authorities said they have seized, recovered or disrupted more than $16 million (£12 million) since January. The effort, which involved local and federal law enforcement agencies, targeted scammers who trick people into transferring them money, for example by impersonating a business partner or colleague. In one case, the U.S. alleged that two Nigerians living in Dallas posed as a property seller when requesting a $246,000 wire transfer from a real estate attorney.Authorities also went after “money mules” – “witting or unwitting accomplices” who receive the money from the victims and transfer it as directed by the fraudsters. The U.S. said arrests occurred in the U.S., Nigeria, Canada, Mauritius and Poland. Some Nigerians allegedly involved in the crackdown include: Adeyemi Odufuye using many aliases including ‘Micky,’ ‘Micky Bricks,’ ‘Yemi,’ ‘GMB,’ ‘Bawz’, ‘Jefe,’ aged 32, and Stanley Hugochukwu Nwoke, aka ‘Stanley Banks,’ ‘Banks,’ ‘Hugo Banks,’ ‘Banky,’ and ‘Jose Calderon’ as his several aliases. They were charged with a seven-count indictment in the District of Connecticut. Their victims were said to have lost approximately $2.6 million, including at least $440,000 in actual losses to one victim in Connecticut.A third co-conspirator Olumuyiwa Yahtrip Adejumo, aka ‘Ade,’ ‘Slimwaco,’ ‘Waco,’ ‘Waco Jamon,’ ‘Hade,’ and ‘Hadey,’ aged 32, of Toledo, Ohio, pleaded guilty on April 20 to one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud. The US department of justice said Odufuye was extradited from the United Kingdom to the United States on January 3, and pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and one count of aggravated identity theft.Nwoke was extradited to the US from Mauritius on May 25, marking the first extradition in over 15 years from Mauritius. His case is pending. Richard Emem Jackson, aka Auwire, 23, of Lagos, was charged in an indictment filed on May 17 in the District of Massachusetts with two counts of unlawful possession of a means of identification as part of a larger fraud scheme. According to the indictment, on two occasions in 2017, Jackson was alleged to have possessed the identifications of two victims with the intent to commit wire fraud conspiracy.Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director, Christopher Wray, whose agency funded and coordinated the operation, said: “This operation demonstrates the FBI’s commitment to disrupt and dismantle criminal enterprises that target American citizens and their businesses.” FBI said people have reported losing more than $3.7bn since it started tracking the issue through its Internet Crime Complaint Center.Wray said “The devastating effects these cases have on victims and victim companies, affect not only the individual business but also the global economy”.

Hi Nairalanders, I recently ended a relationship of six months with a lady due to insincerity on her part and advice from matured people both here on nairaland and in real life. Now, I met this girl in my area and we have been dating for a couple of weeks. All was going fine till I started noticing some behaviours about her. She receives a lot of calls from guys when she's around also She addresses me as sir anytime I call and she's around male friends. I'm asked for an explanation and she said its just a sign of respect. Fast-forward to three days ago when she stopped by at my place. She passed the night with me and I left her alone in my apartment with the keys. On getting to work I realised I had to travel out of state for work. I spent three days to get the job done before I could return. Meanwhile, she told me she left my house a couple of hours after I left. Getting back home, I saw she did some cleaning both in the bedroom and kitchen and I was impressed about it which I thanked her for. After some hours I noticed two condoms were missing from my bedroom. I searched the whole house and I couldn't find it till now. Right now am confused on whether to ask her if she she took the condoms and also I don't want her to think am calling her a thief cos it's really surprising to imagine a lady stealing a condom. Please advise if I should end the affair or ask her and how to go about it. thanks in advance 1 Like |

She's yet to decide on that. As for sex, no lady can be 100 percent loyal to a guy until she gets d ring. I already made it clear that I will never be her side guy and she has limited time to make that decision. AnonyNymous: |

Am not trying to make her dump her boyfriend. My resolve with her is that she should choose who she desires most. What ever the outcome is will be her decision. tosyne2much: |

I opened up to her after sex and she got angry but later calmed down. Anytime I call to say hello to her friends, she get angry with them once they compliment me like "you have a cool voice". I don't know if am good in bed but she told me am different but she refused to explain what makes me different. Also, she is not pregnant. Originalsly: |

Am not trying to steal anyone babe. I asked her out and she agreed, it wasn't as if I pointed a gun at her head. For those thinking I fell for her due to sex: She has other qualities like good character and natural beauty! 5thElement: |

Thanks for the wonderful advise! I had to lie to her when I first knew her cos I think some girls will jump on such opportunity. I opened up to her after 3 months of dating. tobianthony: |

Hi Nairalanders, I met this girl on Facebook five months ago, since then we have been talking and recently we have been in to each other. On her 1st visit to my house, she told me she had a boyfriend before we met and they have been together for a year but he hasn't proposed yet. I thanked her for being sincere with me by telling me the truth about her relationship and I asked her what my chances are with her. She said it will be difficult but possible to let go of the guy and move on with me (she's yet to decide). She also asked me what my intentions are for her the first day we went out together. As it stands now, she told me she was disvirgined by the same guy six months ago but the guy has not made their relationship known to his family. Now she allows me have sex with her and I can tell her mileage is very low and her breast and backside are as hard as a stone plus she has a good character, and extremely beauty. She has gone a little further to introduce me to all her friends and they all tell her they like me. What are my chances of winning this girl over for marriage? though I haven't told her about marriage cos I don't want that to influence her decision about me. I want her to fall in love with me unconditionally which is why I even had to hide my identity when we met telling her I was a factory worker despite the fact that I am a business executive. Now she knows everything about me but am scared of marrying a lady whose heart is somewhere else. We both agreed that I won't influence her decision in any way but to hold on a while to see the outcome of the relationship. She is not a type that can be easily cajoled as her friends told me she is as rigid as a stone. I travel a lot and she makes herself available anytime we need to catch up. Please I need advise from matured people with experience in relationships/marriage issues. Thank in advance! |

I have read so many stories of how innocent buyers become victims of stolen vehicles and Nigerian police are not helping the matter at all. I know of a guy who bought a used Camry in Ibadan (Dugbe area), he came home with the car and we all celebrated with him not knowing it was a stolen car until SARS people tracked the car to his compound. The most painful aspect of it is that the guy was shot and killed right in his home without being investigated. There are few ways to identify a stolen vehicle at the point of sale.( see below) 1. Seller is always in a hurry to complete the transaction. 2. When a deal looks too good to be true, then it's most likely a stolen car. 3. The cars are usually hot cake in the market since they are easy to sell quickly (Camry, Corolla) 4. The seller is willing to sell at a ridiculously low price even when the car has no known fault. 5. Most times they remove the plate number or replace it with a fake number. I also need to quickly say that there are steps one can take when buying a Nigerian used car to avoid police problem or prosecution. I also had a narrow escape last year in Surulere Lagos when a car I saw advertised online was brought to me and immediately, I could tell using the methods listed above and below. The method works and I have bought not less than six Nigerian used cars with it without any problem. 1. Check vehicle papers and confirm the plate number matches what's on the FRSC database (see lsmvaapvs.org or nvis.frsc.gov.ng/NumberPlateVerification.aspx) 2. Make sure the name on the vehicle license matches the name of the seller Government issued id card. (ask for the seller's Govt issued id) 3. When buying from a dealer, ask them to produce seller or his phone number so you can confirm if he truly wants to sell the car. 4. Make sure the phone number on the vehicle license is the same as the seller phone number( call the number to confirm) 5. When making payment, insist on transferring money to the account details of the name on the particulars. 6. Finally, Always follow your heart! cc: lalasticlala 2 Likes 1 Share

June 28, 2017 Suspected kidnapper, Chukwudumeje Onwuamadike, popularly known as Evans has filed a fundamental rights enforcement suit to compel the police authorities to either charge him to court immediately or unconditionally release him from custody. In a motion ex parte filed before the Federal High Court Lagos on Wednesday, the suspect said he has been detained by the police since June 10, and subjected to media trial and parade without any court order. He listed the Inspector General of Police, the Nigerian Police Force, the Commissioner of Police in Lagos, and the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Lagos Command as the respondents in the suit. The applicant alleged that there has been grave constitutional infraction perpetrated by the respondents against him as he ought to have been charged or arraign before the court in accordance with Sections 35 and 36 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The applicant’s father, Stephen Onwuamadike, in an affidavit, claimed that he and other family members have been denied access to his son who is still in the custody of the respondents. He also claimed that his solicitor had also been denied access. Meanwhile, the police said a three-month remand warrant has been obtained from the Federal High Court, Abuja on the detention of the suspect. The warrant, which is renewable on expiration, was obtained on June 22 to allow for investigation in Nigeria, Ghana and South Africa. http://www.channelstv.com/2017/06/28/evans-files-suit-seeking-release/

Traditions are one thing in Africa that can not be brushed aside and Ethiopia is another good example of great tradition in which women from the Hamar tribe in Ethiopia get whipped to demonstrate their love for their men has been spotlighted by photographer Jeremy Hunter. The women of this tribe engage in a tribal ceremony during which they are flogged to show the sacrifices they make for their men. The tradition is known as Ukuli Bula and is done as part of a Rite of Passage ceremony for boys. To reach manhood, Hamar boys must undergo two rituals: circumcision and a leap over the bulls. This determines whether the young Hamar male is ready to make the social jump from youth to adulthood. During this ceremony, their female family members declare their love for the young men and to prove the sacrifice they are willing to endure, they beg men to whip them. After the ceremony held in the Omo River Valley, the boy becomes a man and is now allowed to marry. Hunter shared a series of photographs documenting the ceremony and revealed that after the whipping, tradition allows those women to call on help from those who marked them if ever they are in need of help. Young Hamar women sometimes coat their bodies with butter to lessen the effect of the whipping. 1 Share

Police have arrested the gunmen who allegedly killed a motor boy, at Alaja car wash along Sam Ewang road, Leme in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital, last April 29. The suspect identified by the police as Olatunbosun Tunde, popularly known as soldier, was traced and lured back to Nigeria, by operatives of the Special Anti-Robberry Squad (F-SARS), who arrested him last Thursday. The state police commissioner, Ahmed Ilyasu, parading the 49-year-old suspect, at the state command headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, said he had escaped to the Republic of Togo immediately, after he allegedly shot the motor boy dead. Preliminary investigation, according to the police commissioner, reveals that the suspect is an alleged leader of a notorious armed bandit terrorising Abeokuta and its environs. Ilyasu said the gang that the suspect leads is allegedly involved in the snatching of vehicles, kidnapping and impersonating as military officers to dupe unsuspecting members of the public. He listed items recovered from the suspect as one avar pump action rifle with serial number 15-0083, forty-three live cartridges, two camouflage army trousers, a camouflage army knicker, one camouflage army jungle cap and seven pairs of different vehicle plate numbers. The suspect, who claimed to be a car dealer, said he regrets his action, claiming that he got the camouflage short he wore on the day of the incident, while attending the training of the proscribed merchant navy. The suspect also told newsmen that his gun is licensed and at one point renewed at the Police Command Headquarters, at Eleweran. He said that he only wanted to use the gun to scare the motor boy in the heat of the argument and not to kill him. The suspect claimed that he did not know when he mistakenly pulled the trigger, and that he came out his hiding, after his wife, who is still in the custody of Federal Special Anti Robbery Squad-SARS, was arrested. Tunde said he is married with three children and operates a car stand at Camp area of Abeokuta. 1 Share

Lagos – The 22-year-old marriage of Mr Tunji Oyedele, a 60-year-old Lagos businessman, may be dissolved over his wife’s alleged sexual recklessness and infidelity. Oyedele told an Igandu Customary Court in Lagos, on Wednesday, that his wife, Rumoke, a 55-year-old trader, with whom he had four children, was promiscuous. “Whenever I travel, my wife brings men into our house; on two occasions, I caught my wife with her lovers in our bedroom. “On one occasion, I came home unannounced and caught her with one of her lovers in our bedroom. “On another occasion, I caught her with another man who she claimed was her Pastor. “She claimed that the said Pastor wanted to take her to a river for a special bath to avert spiritual attack,” he alleged. The petitioner further alleged that his wife was fetish and was always in possession of different charms. “I see different strange objects in my bathing water, food and everywhere in the house. “There was a day I entered her room in her absence and saw feathers tied with clothes and other diabolical objects. “I believe that my persistent illness, which has deferred medical solution, is as a result of her fetish acts. “I have been forced to leave my own house because I don’t want to die now,” he said. Oyedele presented the pictures of the charms as exhibits, and begged the court to dissolve the marriage as he was no longer in love. Rumoke, however, debunked the allegations, and stated that she and her husband had lived in peace until January 2016, when he married a new wife. “My husband and I never fought; but immediately he married another woman, his attitude changed. “His new wife accused me of sending hired killers to her and my husband turned me into a punching bag,” she said. Rumoke told the court that she was not adulterous. “The man my husband first saw in our bedroom was my classmate in primary school. “The other man was my Pastor, who came for spiritual purpose,” she explained. The respondent said that she was not ready to divorce her husband because she was still in love. The court president, Mr Adegboyega Omilola, adjourned the case to March 7, for further hearing. Men of Ogun State Police Command have arrested a 26-year-old man, Matthew Oguntade, for allegedly killing his 20-year-old wife, Mary, over her refusal to allow him make love to her. Vanguard gathered that the incident occurred at Owode-Ijako, Sango-Ota, Ado-Odo/Ota last Friday, when the suspect invited his wife to come and collect N1,000 to prepare food for the family. A source told Vanguard that when the late wife arrived, the husband attempted to forcefully have sex with her and while they were struggling, she got strangled. The couple had been married for one and half years and blessed with one child, and had stopped living together because the wife disliked their stay in the husband’s mother’s house. Matthew Oguntade The late wife was reported to have been sleeping in her Church, a Cherubim and Seraphim parish around the area every night, to protest living with her husband in his mother’s house. The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed the incident, said Mary’s death occurred as a result of a fight between the couple due to a minor disagreement. According to Oyeyemi, the CDA Chairman of the community, Iskilu Kareem, who reported the case to police, said he received a telephone call from one of the vigilante groups in the area that the couple is into serious scuffle. Before he got there, the husband had strangled his wife to death, threw the body outside through their window and escaped. He said: “The DPO, Sango-Ota, SP Akinsola Ogunwale, led detectives to the scene and took the corpse to the General Hospital, Ifo, morgue. “The suspect was apprehended and the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, has directed that the suspect be transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, CIID, Eleweran, Abeokuta.” http://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/01/26-year-old-man-kills-wife-sex-ogun/
