Politics / Re: Nigerians Are Tired, They Will Change This Government In 2027 – Kwankwaso by zeyt: 10:25pm On Oct 03
Tunibu made two critical policy error of removing fuel subsidy at single swoop and devaluation of Naira at the same time. Not taking into consideration Nigeria is import depedended economy. Which translitated to irreversible mistake that plunge the masses into unprecedented poverty.
Here in the North Tunibu is now a term referring to suffering and poverty. The People are very angry with Tunibu. I don't think he stand a chance come 2027 election.

Politics / Re: Bandits Fed Dogs Flesh Of My Abducted Relatives’ Driver – Sheikh Bashar Danfil by zeyt: 11:47am On Sep 07
MadPolitician:
If you have lived in the north in the 90s and early 2000s, you would have known that these things that are happening today, were inevitable. For whatever reason, the north intentionally criminalised education. You will get to the road and see dozens of small children in their thousands, clutching dirty bowels begging for food. Sometimes, they eat from dustbins, or food thrown away from restaurants. I mean dozens of kids with flies all over. Very dirty, very unkept, barwly dressed. I could not wrap my fat skull around it.

I mean, how do you allow your own child to eat from the same place with streets dogs? How do you not know that without any education and training, they're bound to be criminals and most importantly, how do you allow any religion or preacher to convince you that subjecting your own son to such beastial treatment is the surest path to heavens? I remember when Babangida Aliyu said that almajiri is their tradition and that no one should get involved. That was when they were fighting Jonathan. We are dealing with the consequences of that evil tradition, because all these terrorist groups recruit from the alamajiri hordes..
Those dirty children you talk about are going through training to learn to be tough for life ahead. Most of them become good citizens in the future: clerics, businessmen or farmers. 99.9 percent of people involved in banditry are Fulanis I mean bush Fulanis most never been to any School but busy tending their herds of cattle. Some that are criminally minded turn to banditry after the cattle are gone or being rejected by their families.
Politics / Re: Fuel Hike, Scarcity Created By Years Of Bad Governance Not Minister's Fault by zeyt: 11:34am On Sep 07
Olaide1295:
This is correct.
The foundation of the fuel problem of today was laid by President Yar'adua when he reversed the sale of the refineries in 2007. If private investors had been allowed to run those refineries, they'd be working now.
It's a problem of many years, not just this government.
However, this suffering must not go to waste. People must see more judicious use of govt. money else, another protest will surface.

SOCIALISM IS NIGERIA'S PROBLEM!!.
Petrol is subsidized,
Education is subsidized
Rail transportation is subsidized,
Healthcare is subsidized
Importation has been subsidized by cheap dollars for many years until recently.
Even our economy is subsidized by Oil.

Subsidy distorts markets, thats why subsidized sectors won't function properly.
You must be unpatriotic capitalist. Nigeria is not US but third world nation. Government is everything for the people. And now this is what you are saying.
Politics / Re: Why Is Nigeria Paying More For Fuel, And What Are The Solutions? Reno Omokri by zeyt: 3:29am On Sep 07
DeLaRue:
Finally an intelligent thesis that mirrors what I have been saying all this while on Nairaland.

Any Presidential candidate that promises you things will be honky dory under him and petrol will be cheap, electricity will be constant, prices of goods will suddenly be cheap is living in cloud coockoo land.

You can not keep borrowing to live a middle class lifestyle when you are on minimum wage. Eventually your debts will catch up with you and you will go bankrupt and lose everything.

Over the past decades, Nigerian governments spent more than the country was earning, subsidising this and that, in order to keep the people happy. Those past Presidents feared being unpopular and so gave people what they wanted knowing fully well it was financial poison that future generations will pay for dearly.

Nigerians have got used to things being artificially cheap due to subsidy (education, petrol, electricity etc) that when a new President comes in and say the country will head for the rocks unless we change things now, Nigerians say he is the worst President ever.

Niger Republic, Ghana, and other neighbouring countries buy petrol at around N1300 per litre. But Nigerians want it at N300 or less

Given that both Ghana and Niger Republic also produce crude oil, what is so unique about Nigerians that makes Nigerians feel so entitled to super cheap petrol?

Unfortunately 99% of Nigerians, including the educated ones, just don't understand economics at the level of a currently poor country like Nigeria
You talk on the premise that we trust this government. In fact this government has no credibility from day one. You think we should trust people running the government when they should be serving terms in prison. Talkless of their policies. This people are unpatriotic but rather capitalistic in disguise.

Politics / Re: Our Reforms Will Lead To Economic Growth, Says Tinubu by zeyt: 9:03am On Sep 04
Tunibu knew he made an irredeemable error he won't admit due political selfish reason. You can't just remove fuel subsidy at one swoop and at the same time devalue currency of import depedended economy. There never going to light at the end of the tunnel in this situation.

Business / Re: Dangote Refinery Will Crash Dollars by zeyt: 3:15am On Sep 04
MT:

You will need to take that 40% from our existing consumption of dollars, the result will be heavy reduction in our demands for dollars and naira can breathe.

This is a simple mathematics
Our demand for dollar is insatiable and won't go down anytime some.

Do you understand that our currency was devalued?

Kindly educate me on why the naira was devalued twice.

Scratching my head. Oh I think I get it. We needed so much naira to buy dollar that we decided the natural thing to do will be to further reduce the value of naira so we can get even less dollar with it? Genius!!!

Back to topic.

40% of the demand on FX is projected to be eliminated. So we have 40% suplux. The CBN would loose approximately 25 to 35% influx of FX via local currency sales of Crude oil, leaving us at about 5 to 15% suplux. And it is safe to say that other economic factors will easily mop up that suplux but let's say they don't, you really think this is the magic wand we need to wave and fix the Naira?

I think not.
"40 % demand eliminated" you seem to forget Nigeria has import depedended economy. We import almost everything.
