Almost every Muslim needs an overhaul in their orientation.
How can someone get to the level of consul-general of a nation & still think this narrow?

This is just hatred & its the kind of mind-set these sucide bombers carry. I think his ways should be well monitored cause we still need the sponsors of Boko.

This country needs H E L P!

smile11s: RELIGIOUS BIGOT, I AM NOT!
BY
HABIB BABA HABU,
CONSUL GENERAL OF NIGERIA, NEW YORK

My attention was drawn to an article written by Mr. Chika Onyeani in his weekly online newspaper "The African Sun Time" of August 14, 2012, on the unfortunate accident of 21st July, 2012, which claimed the lives of five Nigerians and left some wounded. My prayers go to the families of those who lost their loved ones. May the Almighty accept them unto His keeping and grant their families fortitude to bear this irreparable sad loss. May God also quicken the recovery of the wounded ones and provide their families succor.

I wish to place on record the fact that Mr. Onyeani tried to contact me while I was attending the Road Show on Aviation hosted by the Honourable Minister of Aviation. At the end of the Road show, I called him. He pointed out the complaints, for which I told him that I received an invitation letter for the church service of Friday, 10th August, 2012. I told Mr. Onyeani that since it was a church service, I wouldn't know what to do during the service as a Muslim. I have never attended a church service. However, I sent one of the most senior staff of the Consulate General, who incidentally, is an Igbo man and a Catholic, to represent me and the Consulate General.

I wish to point out, for the avoidance of doubt, that since my arrival in New York, I have had the pleasure of attending meetings, dedications, baptismal in churches not only in New York but in other states under the Jurisdiction of the Consulate General. I never ever told Mr. Onyeani that "I can never enter a Church". I have had the pleasure, both in Nigeria and USA, of joing my friends in all their events held in churches. But I have never attended a church service. This statement can be checked with the leadership of the Organisation for the Advancement of Nigerians, (Organisers of New York Parade) and others whom I have had the pleasure of joining in their events organized in various churches. I have never been, and will never be, a Religious bigot. Anybody that had ever had any direct contact with me will vouch for me on this.

In conclusion, I wish, once again, to state I never ever told Mr. Onyeani that "I can never enter a Church". I am proud of being a Muslim but it has never ever clouded my judgment of other Religions or people of Religion. Like most Nigerians, I was born into a Religion and grew up to love and appreciate it. If I had been born by Christian parents, I would have grown up being a Christian. Almost all Nigerians were born into a Religion which they adhere to and love. I don't think Mr. Onyeani whom I had been treating as an elder brother and adviser would descend to the level of insinuating my being a Religious bigot.
Just as said. . .

No. An ambassador or a consul's job is to act for and as the country. This is a man's bigotry being placed before his responsibility. He is unsuited and should be recalled immediately. If he cannot act with compassion with Christians who've died in a horrible accident, would he be compassionate if they came to him with their problems?

Moreover, there is no teaching in mainstream Islam that prohibits the entering of a church, meaning he is either lying or a radical, either of which is just cause for dismissal.

Church is an unholy place to a true Muslim . If u move with real alfas and imams, they will tell u if death meets u in places like shrine or church u are going straight to hell.

Dual citizenship for people that hold Nigerian passports by descent, and only for entry into the country. They are truly American and should seek solace from their country. A dual citizen cannot be president. And most of the kids know next to nothing about Nigeria except at these meetings. Where you are born and where you have sworn fealty to is where you should seek allegiance. If their was trouble in Nigeria, will they remember they are Nigerians?

Please let the erratic and religious fanatic consulate be recalled back immediately.
Am so sure that no muslim from Yoruba LAND can do that and a christian no matter his level of spirituality can
do that to muslim in a far and civilized country like USA.
Please...Jonathan call him back. He is BOKO HARAM in a far country.

2mch: Being of Nigerian descent doesn't make you Nigerian. Most of those people carry American passports. If they are American they shouldn't expect anything from the Nigerian consulate. I didn't even know people even cared about these consulate people enough to invite them anywhere. We Nigerians have to live and let live. Let people be guided by their religious belief, personal belief if they want to, as long as it does not jeopardize the life of others. I understand the issue of sensitivity but does the writer have solid proof that he said this? If he does then that should have been released along with this writeup. Plus Nigerian's are not too known for applying wisdom or diplomacy before they talk.
If those people carry American passports like you say, then why do we have a Nigerian embassy in the US?

Nigerians are already blasting the man after he responded to the allegation, below are some of the comments,

Mr Habib Baba Habu, you claimed in your response that you “have had the pleasure of attending meetings, dedications, baptismal in churches”. you also stated that you “have had the pleasure both in Nigeria and USA of joining my friends in all their events held in churches”. but you had earlier on alleged that your response to Onyeani was thus “since it was a church service, i wouldnt know what to do during the service as a muslim”. this is where you got it all wrong! what did you do in the meetings, dedications, baptismals, and all the events of friends both in Nigeria and USA held in churches which according to you, you had the PLEASURE of attending? one had expected a spirited effort at putting the facts straight and redeeming what is left of our shattered image abroad. but rather, you choose to stoke the fire of incompetence, sectionalism and religious bigotry already burning under your butt. at the stage you are(global), and with the resources availlable to your office, you could have attended in the company of a retinue of christian underlings and let them guide you on what to do. also, every public comment should be well vetted to avoid sending the wrong signal from what was actually intended. my advice is that you try the much you can to repair the damage and redeem our standing in the face of Americans where this happened and the World over who are keenly watching.

First, may their soul rest in peace and God grant them paradise.

Now can someone tell me are these people Nigerian, or US or both citizens?

If they are both citizens of Nigeria and US, did Obama or any rep attend?

If they are Nigerians, are they registered with the consulate?

If yes, then the Ambassador has to resign, if no then he has no business attending anything.

The Consul-General of Nigeria in US, exemplies Boko Haram in diaspora. He has behaved true to self – he did not hide his identity and feelings about non-muslims. Will hatred to other people and their religions even at death, really take us to the “heaven”?
One wonders how such character as HABIB BABA HABU becomes a Nigeria Consul-General. Why look for Boko Haram sponsors when people like the Consul-General of Nigeria apears to be one. Before God allow this to come public, HABIB BABA HABU (the Consul-General of Nigeria in NY) must have mal-treated hundreds of other innocent Nigerians, especially the christians/non-muslims. ONE NIGERIA IS NOT IN THE HEARTS AND THINKING OF MAJORITY OF NIGERIA MUSLIMS.
He should graciously resigned from that position immediately and not continue to destroy the image of this country. Enough is a enough.

This calls to the questions as to how these ambassadors are chosen. You should know that in order to be an ambassador of a country, you have to be ready to defend just about everything that that country entails be it in Religion, social or cultural representation. So, for the Nigerian consular to open his dirty mouth to utter such gibberish shows that we have a long way to go. I guess he made that statement without even thinking of the consequence and for not knowing an answer to give.

Another question that needs to be asked is, is he the only person that could have represented the Nigerian embassy? Doesn't he have a chirstiaan deputy of just about anybody from the embassy that's a christian? Why didn't he even visit the victims family to sign a condolence register on behalf of the embassy?

What all this brings to the fore is that, it's either we throw away our ethnic and religious differences to unite and forge a common front or we apply federal, religious and tribal character to the latter. At least two or more ambassadors must be appointed to represent the two major religions and the ethnic groups in Nigeria. Nonsense.

@Obowunmi: Nigerian christians will say the same thing too sha. Nigeria is divided on all fronts: christian, muslim, igbo, yoruba, hausa, rich, poor....sad and insensitive.

Don't attempt to balance anything. No Nigerian Christian or any Christian for that matter on the position of this moslem fanatic (well, all moslems are the same. Some may just be more vocal than the others, but the mindset is same) will refuse to enter a mosque under similar circumstance. I am tired of folks always seeking to create the impression that all relgion could be like islam. Islam was violently introduced to this poor planet and the consequence of that lingers on. I am a bit supprised that a moslem was even posted to a christain dominated USA as a Consul-general.

You have made a very good point. That's why Obasanjo even though i'm not his fan, is one of the smartest presidents Nigeria has ever produced. I remember at one point, the two ambassadors appointed to the US(New York and Atlanta) were Igbos because they form the majority in the US. A yoruba man was also sent to the UK because Yorubas dominate that place. You can't send an Igbo man to saudi Arabia for example because majority of Nigerians there will definitely be Muslims. This is the height of insensitivity.

Look, there is no need for all this hullabaloo.

As a Christian, I cannot enter a mosque. Islam considers it haram, just the way it considers it haram for a muslim to enter a church because they believe it is not a sacred place.

Only mosques are considered sacred, and even at that, there are levels of sacredness with mosques at the Kabba, Jerusalem and Medina being the most sacred mosques in Islam. The Consular-General is only being a true muslim.
