What of the Nigerians tortured and killed in Libya. Did the senate even hold a hearing about it? Did we hear the president place sanctions on Libya? With your thought process the president should also resign then. abi? So how come this has become such a big issue. Very suspicious story by the way. grin grin grin cheesy. There is more to this witch hunt.

More nauseating is that flyer with the inscription: ''An Igbo Tragedy''. Wtf!!!!!

deal_ordea: From what have read so far!!! We all have our different views when it comes to religious and been a muslim, I am more a liberated person and I don't see anything bad extending my condolence greetings to the family of the dead.. The guy would have send a third part to extend condonlence greetings if not he should sack from the duty!!!

Well my friend, this is your answer below:

This is from the Bereaved/Complainant

Checking further to make sure that there was no mistake regarding Mr. Habu’s assertion, I called Mr. Nnamdi Akamnonu, President of the Arondizuogu Patriotic Union National Congress of North America. He stated that in the course of the wake-keeping, somebody came and told him that there was somebody from the Consulate waiting outside who wanted to speak to him. He said he asked them to walk the individual in, but the individual refused to walk in. He then decided to go and meet with the person. Said Mr. Akamnonu, “I saw a young man in shorts with a tee shirt on, and I invited him in, but he said he didn’t want to come in, that he had a message from the Consulate, that they had received my letter.” He said that was all the message he had to deliver and didn’t have a written reply to my letter to the Consul-General, informing him that the wake-peeing was going to be at Coop City in the Bronx.”

And this is from the Consul:

I have never attended a church service. However, I sent one of the most senior staff of the Consulate General, who incidentally, is an Igbo man and a Catholic, to represent me and the Consulate General.
!

So, where is the problem?! They both agree that he sent a representative, and in my opinion that should be enough to satisfy the presence of the Nigerian Government, if indeed thats what they were seeking.

This is a horrible tragedy that occurred, but to trivialize it and turn it into a witch-hunt is just downright shameful and is not needed at this point.

So if that CG does not enter a church, Islam automatically becomes violent. Right
Now does the Bible allow you to judge?
How many times have you entered a mosque yourself?
I don't look forward to going to church for a service because there are things they would do that I cannot submit
I would not sing, I would not say Amin when they pray in the name of Jesus. So why don't I save myself the awkwardness. And does Islam become violent thereby?

Come to think of it how many people whose death are traceable to govt failure have their funeral attended by govt official
Think explosion due to NEPA power surge, explosion of tanker parked by the roadside, death from generator fume, car crash due to gaping hole on the road etc
Now how many times have we held govt to account because of those?
Yet the guy said he sent a rep to the event

Anyway you are entitled to your view about Islam
But the conduct of Christians here give me good reason to separate the fact from the fiction of what I am told Christianity represents
Re: Nigeria Consul-general In New York - "I'm A Muslim, I Cant Enter A Church" by PHIPEX(m): 4:27pm On Aug 15, 2012
I will have no problem with him if he in his personal capacity don't enter churches but to be representing a whole nation and mention such a thing is callous.

Kogi State Governor is a Moslem yet he went into the Deeper Life Church where people were killed a week ago.

Moslem Leaders about a year ago in a northern state (Kano or Kaduna) went into churches on sunday for their supposed solidarity for church bombings, they were even given the opportunity to address the entire congregation.

I've seen Moslem leaders enter the National Ecunemical Center in Abuja during services.

If he considers entering churches a Haram then he should resign and have enough time to practice his religion without 'temptations' from Christians. The FG wrote the Italian govt when one of their citizens was killed in Northern Nigeria some time ago because the representative of the Italian govt in Nigeria cared to know what went wrong how much more when your fellow citizen died and besides being reported by the media you were personaly informed but chose to play the religion card. Even if he can't step into a church (even though the event wasn't in church) what stops him from visiting the survivor in a hospital is that not what we regularly see govt officials do after major calamities? I hope this is not thesame man that was accused of looting our treasure in US few months ago?

I apologize on behalf of majority of muslims that feel like I do.
The man should be recalled. Is there no christian at the consular that could represent him even if the whole event would be held at the church, only an extreme muslim of northern extract could reason like that.

He should have gone and visit the family and Co or even a letter and representative. Mohammed spoke of compassion so being a Muslim is not does not mean you can not go to a church

l felt ashamed reading this write-up from you.acqusition of good education ensures that an individual is reasonably and analytically sound. i found these lacking in you from this write-up. let me ask you a question- if the ambassador could not go on a religious ground, why could'nt he send a representative? i mean a true representat not a fad.we are talking about five lives lost , five not one, two of which are kids. i live in DC, which is about 4 hours from NYC, there was a massive outpouring of sorrow and sympathy in the media. from individuals who have no affiliation whatsoever with the victims and their families. yet our ambassador so unashameably failed both in his duty and as a human. pathetic that the likes of him and you share the same nationality with me.

Did he say that or someone claims that the man said it
Qur'an(49:6) "If a wicked person comes to you with any news, ascertain the truth"
Your statement about muslims of the North is sinful. This is Ramadan. Be careful
Qur'an(21:92) "This ummah of yours is a single ummah, and I am your Lord, so worship me."

smile11s: RELIGIOUS BIGOT, I AM NOT!
BY
HABIB BABA HABU,
CONSUL GENERAL OF NIGERIA, NEW YORK

My attention was drawn to an article written by Mr. Chika Onyeani in his weekly online newspaper “The African Sun Time” of August 14, 2012,
on the unfortunate accident of 21st July, 2012, which claimed the lives of five Nigerians and left some wounded. My prayers go to the families of those who lost their loved ones. May the Almighty accept them unto His keeping and grant their families fortitude to bear this irreparable sad loss. May God also quicken the recovery of the wounded ones and provide their families succor.

I wish to place on record the fact that Mr. Onyeani tried to contact me while I was attending the Road Show on Aviation hosted by the Honourable Minister of Aviation. At the end of the Road show, I called him. He pointed out the complaints, for which I told him that I received an invitation letter for the church service of Friday, 10th August, 2012. I told Mr. Onyeani that since it was a church service, I wouldn’t know what to do during the service as a Muslim. I have never attended a church service. However, I sent one of the most senior staff of the Consulate General, who incidentally, is an Igbo man and a Catholic, to represent me and the Consulate General.

I wish to point out, for the avoidance of doubt, that since my arrival in New York, I have had the pleasure of attending meetings, dedications, baptismal in churches not only in New York but in other states under the Jurisdiction of the Consulate General. I never ever told Mr. Onyeani that “I can never enter a Church”. I have had the pleasure, both in Nigeria and USA, of joing my friends in all their events held in churches. But I have never attended a church service. This statement can be checked with the leadership of the Organisation for the Advancement of Nigerians, (Organisers of New York Parade) and others whom I have had the pleasure of joining in their events organized in various churches. I have never been, and will never be, a Religious bigot. Anybody that had ever had any direct contact with me will vouch for me on this.

In conclusion, I wish, once again, to state I never ever told Mr. Onyeani that “I can never enter a Church”. I am proud of being a Muslim but it has never ever clouded my judgment of other Religions or people of Religion. Like most Nigerians, I was born into a Religion and grew up to love and appreciate it. If I had been born by Christian parents, I would have grown up being a Christian. Almost all Nigerians were born into a Religion which they adhere to and love. I don’t think Mr. Onyeani whom I had been treating as an elder brother and adviser would descend to the level of insinuating my being a Religious bigot.

If you have other issues after/with the above, bring them forth.

And BTW, stop slandering. Not all Northern Muslims are "extremist". Moreso, there is nothing called extremism in Islam. It's either you're a muslim or not.

It is so easy to cast aspersions on others based on their religion while ignoring our own personal failures.

Let me ask this question, HOW MANY OF US CHRISTIANS HAVE EVER ENTERED A MOSQUE FOR A CELEBRATION? How many of us honour invitations from our Muslim friends if it would take place in the mosque?
