baqina: It depends on how you look at it. I love Nigeria, but it is really very difficult to be proud of that country. How can I be proud of FAILURE? I hope this sleepy GIANT wakes up from it deep slumber. I am less optimistic in this regard though, because the young ones that are calling the elderly thieves are even more kleptomanic than the old ones. For they would like to ride HUMMER JEEP, FERARRI, LAMBOGHINI, MASERATI etc. without SWEATING. Nigeria a highly disorganized and corrupt country, and it not only the politicians that are so even though a lot of people blame them for that. We need a revolution in that den of thieves. 4 Likes |

Guys, is it RIDICULing or stating the obvious fact? Take it or leave it, Nigeria is not a nation, it is a barbaric society where few cabals just plunder the resources. What's the point lying? How many nation is still struggling with electricity supply in the 21st century? How much money has gone into the drain in the guise of fixing this problem? The writer is so on point! 1 Like |

occam: No country in d world is a paradise, just like you have kids in your neighborhood regretting they were born in Nigeria, we also have kids of other nationals regretting where God created them, this is pure case of self esteem not of origin. We have Nigerians that are today the best in there chosen careers. Gone are d days when passport was d most lucrative department at Nigeria Immigration Service but now it is d CERPAC, you will be shocked when you see the amount of other nationals turning Nigerians especially the Americans and the British. |

We might continue to complain but in the last 2years, I have had at least 3 Europeans leave their country and establish in Nigeria, leaving their wives back home.. I am happy and proud to be in an emerging market at this time, and happy to be Nigerian. Cos, we are generally too smart... so.. I pledge to Nigeria my country, To be faithful, loyal and honest, To serve Nigeria with all my strength, To defend her unity, And uphold her honor and glory, So help me God |

I was told positive attitude yields positive result, this I dont see with Nigerians. |

baqina: It depends on how you look at it.Nigeria has never been ranked better than India or Thailand for corruption, in fact Nigeria's best score ever: 2.7 in 2009 only matches India's very worst year, 2002, while Thailand's worst score of 3.2 (2002) is half a mark better than Nigeria has ever achieved. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corruption_Perceptions_Index baqina:In actual fact, using homicides as a guide, Nigeria (12.2 per 100,000) is almost 3 times safer than South Africa (31.8 per 100,000) however it is almost 3 times more dangerous than America (3.5 per 100,000) and ten times more dangerous than the UK (1.2 per 100,000) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_intentional_homicide_rate baqina:I'm not going to cast aspersions on your intellectual prowess, so I'll focus on the facts: Looking at the Adult Literacy rates as the accepted indicator of education standards, Nigeria places 143rd out of 179, after both South Africa and Congo. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Education_Index baqina:The Life expectancy in Nigeria is 46.9 years, compared with 80.4 years in the UK and 182nd out of 194, just behind the AIDS ridden murder fest that is South Africa. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_life_expectancy baqina:I have one word for you: Makoko. Oh and for the record: in the UK ₦775,500 a year is the payment for the unemployed, plus a payment towards rent. baqina:Not as many as Nigerians turning foreigners. 35,000 more people leave Nigeria than enter every year. https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/geos/ni.html baqina:If you love it, fight for it to be better. |

Nigeria is The Fig Tree. Cursed Mark 11:12-14 Jesus Curses a Fig Tree 12 The next day as they were leaving Bethany, Jesus was hungry. 13 Seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, he went to find out if it had any fruit. When he reached it, he found nothing but leaves, because it was not the season for figs. 14 Then he said to the tree, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again.” |

Reading through the comment of Nigerians, am almost moved to tears. Let me quickly point out that most people re talking from personal experience. As much as I agree that we ve enjoyed some benefit from this country but our level of development still leaves much to be desired. Let me share my personal experience: Just some month back I was looking for an IT placement as part of the requirement for the award of bsc in engr., I combed every nook and cranny of Lagos all to no avail. The scheme is supposed to last for six month. I ended up spending 2 month to search for placement. Through the period my level of patriotism for my dear country dropped. Now at the tail end of my program, I still nurse that fear almost everyday of what I will face out there after NYSC despite my high CGPA and relevant skill in my discipline. God bless Nigeria though. |

Re: Why Nigerians Ridicule Nigeria by edicolove: 8:01pm On Aug 15, 2012 |
I beg to disagree with this article. I strongly believe that the issues facing Nigeria are more fundamental than most people realise. According to the article, Nigerians ridicule Nigeria because the country has done nothing for them. But he forgot that there was a time and a generation that this country did a lot for. But that generation never gave back just like this generation. There was a time when if you get into a university, you are given the best of meals. You were treated like a king. You were give a car loan as soon as you graduate. Some of us even tasted a bit of it in our primary school days. But that generation turned and pooed on this country. They plied good smooth roads. Insecurity wasn't such a big problem. We didn't have fences around our houses when we were very small. We had flowers. But that generation bastardised a country that treated them wonderfully. Nigerians back then didn't even need visas to travel. But those who enjoyed those facilities are the same people that plundered the country. Most of them are within the ages of 50 and 70. That is why I insist that the problem is something that is far more fundamental. I think what we have is what is called a failure of cultures is sociology. I will try and do a piece on it. The simple way to put it is, a kingdom divided against itself, will not stand. When you commit a project or an enterprise to 2 or more fellows who have completely different visions of their future and completely different value systems, what will result is a plunder. Each man will try to harvest the system and they will not give anything back. The end product will be chaos and destruction. |
