I was doing it to my boss initially, I always pick her bag when she comes in and take it to her office, and a colleage of mine asked me to stop it. and when I did, it caused a lot of trouble, she started behaving funny, telling people that I do not respect her anymore, that I now see her as my mate.

I believe you should not start it at all, cos doing it automatically adds it to your duties even if its not, and if by chance you do not do it again even if its for a day, they will take it as an offence. so dont start it at all.

Iz neccessary to help him/her,cos it shows how HUMBLE,HONEST ND GENTLE u're.Nd by so doing,U may b definitely due for Promotion.

If you r a guy and she is a lady, it's not advisable to collect her handbag but her file or any other office stuff u can collect
But 4 a male boss courtesy sake u make d attempt. Ur boss is like ur dada. It shows sign of respect.

My boss is French-German and made it clear at d onset that he didn't think it was necessary to help him with his stuff which usually is just a bulky laptop bag. He also believes in using first names and not all these "sir" stuff. What can I say, my life is easy!

Well One thing you should note is Culture cannot be downplayed in our society. I interacted with a Zambian friend and we discussed on this issue " The influence of Organizational culture in the work place. We could draw similarity in the cultural environment we both operate.

The interesting thing is such act or actions have been found to be significant in leadership bonding between superiors and staffs. The few mins moment allows for conversation could either be positive for some people. Again in Nigeria its a culture which simple shows respect!!

Any some how it translate... Check it out we work in environments where they say call your boss first name over time we have discovered people tend to give their superior bosses 'call names' which they feel comfortable with.

This type of behaviour always happen in 3rd world country.....lol

In London, I'm not been paid to be KAYA for any Boss but paid for the job I'm been employed to do.

Two things, it could be that the person is licking the Boss Ass or sign of Respect but I think we take things too far in NIGERIA, all this are unnecessary or scared of been Sacked as there's no EMPLOYMENT LAWS for poor people.

After considering all this responses & point of views, I conclude however, on behalf of myself, drawn from my African inclination, that even if you do not help your boss with his bag... I mean ''top boss'' most especially, which most times I believe it may be seen as disrespect; no matter what you may argue with, that, the best thing you could do in such situation is to bow your head ''meaningfully'' when you find yourself in such a scenario.


Well, haven asked this question, it ''wishfully'', because its what I thought and happened to me today... (oh! How I wish I didnt ask this question, I would have been myself and help him), I was stunned and I didnt collect his bag... It pained me later.


I only wish he noticed that I bowed my head cause I did. Thats what I used to console myself.

Everybody with different upsbringing, some boss will c it as a respect, while some will c it as part of ur job, so in dis kind of situation, you first study the kind of boss you work with,once you no that you wont be able to finish, is better you dont start @all, dont make any attempt to satisfy any boss, but ur church mind.
