Yeah, generally both asset classes are "risk substitutes"... so there's an a GENERAL inverse relationship btw them. Like I posted some weeks ago, some fund managers who believe they're smart are liquidating positions in stocks and packing into bonds & t-bills in droves.

Even if there should be any 'flight to safety', it makes more sense to me to park in illiquid, blue chips-mid cap stocks... I think this might be the state of play much later.

Cos after February 2015, if we find ourselves in benign economic conditions, Mr. Emefiele might catch those herdish fund managers unawares.

It's also plausible to think that the fund managers are conducting fake-outs just to inspire fear, causing many to sell off, only to return to the markets unannounced much later...taking positions @ very attractive price levels.

Basically bluffing...

Yes, but you can actually lock your funds in now, you are guaranteed coupon payments which is fixed till maturity, current yields which seem not attactive will only determine consideration, buy now at this level(s) and be entitled to semi annual payments till maturity, if Emefiele decides to catch anyone unawares by lowering interest rate, it will just be for that person to sell at a lower yield, which is more money, that is if he/she wants to sell.
Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by nitrogen(m): 8:42pm On Jul 22, 2014
Foreign guys are really enjoying our bond market, they dictate everything......for investors, buy 13.05, 14.20 etc coupon bonds at premium, enjoy your coupon payments, while you hold to maturity or sell when rates are DOWN, for you to make solid cash.

Just because this is the safe strategy considering our current clime, I'll most likely not follow it. Like I wrote on SMN and @Agbalowomeri has also written, in the midst of this general Wave 5, some Wave 3 exploits will be going on (whose returns will dwarf bond yields by no small margin).

Our exchange rate regime and import-based economy guarantee that financial assets will continue to hold sway in terms of returns, so I guess the field's large enough...

Sir, I will not derail. Sometimes it is good that we raise our fun appetite so that everyone can belong. Our goal here is to make our life happy and part of the happiness is making money. So there is joy when everyone makes money. Our mission is clear "To turn nothing to Something" with the little one we are holding. And he scripture has finalized all our plans in Proverbs 23:7. "For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he...". So my good family, think big, dream big, and you will achieve big.
