Good day People,
I submitted my graduate application to University of Waterloo, York University and Carleton University since late November/ early December for 2011 Fall Admission. though I have received some acknowledgement, I am yet to be contacted with a decision.
For our experienced friends, when probably could I be expecting to hear from the school? Thanks alot.

If your application is complete, you should be getting decisions in within the next few weeks. I'm sure you already know that you can check your status online.

You may also want to send an email or call to check the status of your application.

ACCA 247,
Get admission to a university for Bsc Accounting, you are better off with that than 1 year into a ACCA prep school - which you can do in Nigeria. Everything else you have lined up looks good except this. Good luck.
Re: Travelling To Canada by Cuddlemii: 3:59pm On Mar 11, 2011
@ACCA

I think you should put a stop to your visa application for now. You can apply ending of March. You need to find out from the experienced contributors of this thread or people who are already in Canada about your chances with ACCA.

Dont worry the points I highlighted for you for a letter of intent can be used for any programme of your choice that you pick. So at this junction it pays to be patient as rome wasn't built in one day.

I understand the mad rush to apply for visa but at the same time, you want things done properly so that you wont take the wrong stairs.

It is well

TGIF, you can take a chill pill with your fiancee this weekend, show her that you wont depart from her for so long, lolz
Re: Travelling To Canada by ayoalade(m): 6:19pm On Mar 11, 2011
@ ACCA 247 - after reviewing your letter of intent, it just doesn't sit right with me personally and I had to put myself in the shoes of the visa officer. The ACCA program can be taken in Nigeria, thus, that presents a snag in making a case as to why you have to pay substantially to get that in Canada when you can do exactly the same thing in Nigeria (I know the whole thing about foreign credentials having more weight), but the bottom line is, it is a professional designation, which on the first look most people will not really care where and how you get your ACCA.

However if you were to apply for a full degree program in Canada I believe it may work better in your favour.

Believe me, these visa officers are well trained and the last thing you want to do is give them the tool to prove you wrong. If I were you, I would probably review my plans and see if I can go for a degree program rather than a professional certification.

I'm not an accountant but I've spoken with some friends here in Canada (by the way, they are Nigerias and studied here before receiving their designations - CA, CMA, CGA etc.) and they are not positive about your situation.

@ANFANIO,CUDDLEMII and AYOALADE, Thank you so much for your contributions, useful information and advice. I would be very happy if you could help me with information of a comparatively cheap college or university that offers Bsc in Business Administration with Accounting as concentration or Bsc. Accounting.
I want t0 be careful in choosing another college or university if that is what I will end up doing, because I will be sponsoring myself and I need to prove to the visa officer that I have sufficient fund to sponsor myself, even after first year.
Meanwhile,I have committed myself to some steps towards applying visa for the ACCA already a paid a token for accommodation reservation amongst other preparations. (Though I need to make any unnecessary payment of fee). I need to be transparent to you guys,I wanna give a try,but IF in any case I got refused cos of pursing ACCA, on excuse that'' YOU HAVE NOT SATISFIED ME THAT YOU ARE A BONAFIDE STUDENT'' lol, I need to know if I stand a chance by re-applying taking another platform you guys suggested i.e opting for Bsc in Business Administration with Accounting or Bsc in Accounting? I am confused! I really wanna study in Canada but the Oyinbos @ the Deputy high commission are not making things easy.
I appreciate u guyz,and I am optimistic that someday,somehow,I will be in CANADA,studying!
I will be expecting response from you guyz. THX
Re: Travelling To Canada by ayoalade(m): 3:35am On Mar 13, 2011
@ ACCA 247 - Per information obtained from AUCC, the following universities offer the program you are interested in at undergrad level. Without some research, it will be difficult to tell you offhand which one will be considered "cheap".

University of Alberta
Athabasca University,
University of Calgary
University of Lethbridge
Mount Royal University
The University of British Columbia
Kwantlen Polytechnic University
University of Northern British Columbia
Simon Fraser University
Thompson Rivers University
Trinity Western University
University of Manitoba
University of New Brunswick
Cape Breton University
Dalhousie University
Mount Saint Vincent University
St. Francis Xavier University
Saint Mary's University
Algoma University
Brescia University College
Brock University
Carleton University
Huron University College
King's University College at The University of Western Ontario
Lakehead University
University of Ottawa
Redeemer University College
Ryerson University
University of Toronto
University of Waterloo
The University of Western Ontario
Wilfrid Laurier University
University of Windsor
York University
Bishop's University
Concordia University

I wish you all the best as you try to see how far you can get with the ACCA program. By the way, I don't think a denial with this one will affect your future applications to the High Commission.

@mikkyangel, ve been searching around for someone with a true testimony of Belvic's workpermit program. I remember you said only one person got the VISA thru him, is it that others were denied or their application is still under processing? Pls I need some info as I will be using him too for the workpermit, my email addy is sunjoksatyahoodotcom.
Re: Travelling To Canada by ayoalade(m): 1:50pm On Mar 14, 2011
@ sunky644 - Be very careful, please read my post here about using a representative or agent to immigrate to Canada - https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria?topic=449482.msg7908295#msg7908295

Believe me, I am very suspicious about this Belvic people especially with respect to thier ludicrous claims about what they can do for you to immigrate to Canada. Be careful and don't lose your hard earned money to some unscrupulous individuals who are out to prey on the despiration and vulnerability of others. Again, I strongly recommend you read that thread above.

If you're so desperate and want an agent to represent you (which in all honesty you really don't need), you can check out the Canadian Society of Immigration Consultant and find someone that can represent you their. Apart from lawyers who specialises in immigration issues, these are the people that are "legally" allowed to get paid for assisting someone with their immigration process. Note the emphasis on the word "assisting" as no Immigration consultant or agent can guarantee your admissability to Canada but they can guide you, advise you and make sure that you go through the process properly without getting inundated by the seemingly intricate process. Here is the general website - https://www.csic-scci.ca/find/

Be very very careful. So, the conclusion about Belvic is if it looks too good to be through, you're probably right. And I can stick my neck out in this case to say don't even thing about it!

@ All
Am so happy to see that you all are doing nice job in the house, God bless you all . After the winter exams, i will find time to come to the house and answer some questions base on my experience here in Canada. I will want to say if you want to apply for a study permit, get a pen and paper and go thru all the 90 pages of this thread . Write down the basic things required for a sucefull application. Also think of something that you can tell the CDHC that people have not been using.
I came into this thread, learnt from people and also contributed mine. with God, i was able to get my study permit. Canada is one of the best places to be with great jobs opportunities.

please i urgently need the personal statement of purpose, please i need it as soon as possible
Re: Travelling To Canada by ayoalade(m): 8:50pm On Mar 14, 2011
@ Cavad4real - "Personal Statement of purpose", How can anyone know what is personal to you and what your purpose is? Looks like you've got your work cut out for you here. If it's personal, it must come from you. Why don't you write something and have people here critic it and give you suggestions and recommendations?
Re: Travelling To Canada by ACCA247: 9:06am On Mar 15, 2011

Re: Travelling To Canada by ayoalade(m): 12:51pm On Mar 15, 2011
@ Cavad4real I was quite aware of what you intended but didn't want to make any assumptions. So, what are you applying for? Student Visa, Work Visa, Tourism Visa or are you trying to apply for Permanent Residency?

That will help us to stir you in the right direction.

Hello everyone i must admit dat you guys are doing a fantastic job on this thread.I applied for diploma in costume design at Dalhouise university (fall admission) in feb and am yet to get a formal reply from them apart from the acknowledgement that they have recieved my application , does it take long for you to know you know your application status?
One more thing pls, the school is in Nova Scotia i want you to give me insight about the province. I have two kids the first is 2yrs and the second is 2mths old now, we will be going together and my husdand will be coming to visit us he has a good job in Nigeria. What is it like to live an average lifestyle there in terms of housing, nursery, feeding and schooling(myself) with or without me working? My husband will sponsor us.
Re: Travelling To Canada by ACCA247: 1:27pm On Mar 16, 2011
@MARCLEO, thank u so much for the insight. I will put that into consideration and I will prepare myself. Though I have already been accepted to a college in toronto and I will be applying for study visa next week(God willing)
Do you have any advice or tip for me concerning my study visa application? I want a pursue ACCA and I will be sponsoring myself. do I have a chance?
Re: Travelling To Canada by ayoalade(m): 2:54pm On Mar 16, 2011
@ Marcleo and ACCA 247 - education for International Student is essentially expensive in Canada. There isn't anywhere you go that you won't have to pay substantially. This is due in part to the differential fees that is added on top of the regular tuition fee for Canadians and permanent residents. So, the assumption is, if you're coming to study in Canada, you have a way to finance yourself. I don't think it is intended for those who cannot finance their way and I believe that explains why the visa office is often reluctant in granting some individuals that are considered financially not ready for student visa to Canada. So, the bottom line, it doesn't matter if you study in Vancouver or St. John's, you're are going to have to pay big time.

Having said that, the cheapest tuition can be found in the province of Quebec as it is highly regulated by the provincial government. The only problem of course is that you have to deal with the French Language in Quebec unless you're planning to study at Mcgill.

And speaking of Cost of living, Marcleo, I will say, welcome to Canada, that's what we all have to go through here, you work hard, and you're taxed hard for your hard earned money. But the joy of it all is that I will never trade the benefit of living in this society for any, ever! By the way, if you've lived in other provinces, you'll quickly discover that Toronto is not that bad after all. By the way, I lived in Toronto for 6 years before relocating to Nova Scotia 13 years ago and I still visit every year.
Re: Travelling To Canada by ayoalade(m): 3:05pm On Mar 16, 2011
@ mailty - I should say, welcome to Dalhousie University, one of Canada's oldest and illustrious universities. I can say that because I am an alumnus.

You will certainly enjoy your study here in Nova Scotia, though compared to places like Toronto, Montreal and other big cities, Halifax, is not on the same level in terms of diversity, polulation and the bustling big city life. However, it is big enough that you will not miss the luxury that comes with living in a big city and at the same time will still enjoy the tranquility of a small and down to heart society.

Dalhousie is located in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Nova Scotia is essentially a province sitting right along the Atlantic Ocean. The population of the whole province is just shy of a million! So, if you're coming from Lagos, be prepared for a big shocker! Being on the East Coast, you are essentially living in a place that is more or less an Island. Halifax it's largest city and where you will be living has a population of just over 300 thousand and it is a city as I previously mentioned that offers all the benefit of living in a big city and still provide the low key life that you will find in small towns. I should also mention that Nova Scotia is a great place to raise children. Over the last few years, the province has become quite diverse in it's population. There is now a large Nigerian community here compared to about 15 years ago when I first moved here. So, you should be able to connect with our people here if you want to. The Black student advisor at Dalhousie is a Nigerian and she's a very good friend of mine. That should be a good place to visit once you get to Dal.

I believe you will be hearing from Dal soon, if you have any concern, just send a quick e-mail to the register's office.

I look forward to welcoming you to Dal, please do let me know when you will be in town as we can come and give you a good welcome right from the airport.
Re: Travelling To Canada by MARCLEO(m): 3:39pm On Mar 16, 2011
@ayoalade it seem you ve been here for quite a long time well am quite new here in Toronto and getting enough of it already so am also looking into relocating a friend of mine asked to head for Alberta because it has numerous opportunity and sparsely populated compared to Toronto and Nova Scotia too, i learnt that from a Jamaican friend here. so if i may ask you where do you advice me to head for??
