To my mind, I think these hoo and cries are becoming too much. What is the way out should now be our major concern.
The way out of this dreadlock I think is that the Central Bank should wake up and wade into this matter.
There should be a lasting solution.
If one Master Card from one is working then all others should also work.

This is one of the things we are talking about. For now, Paypal is inaccessible to Nigerians as Paypal seems to have blackliste Nigerians from patronizing them. Sometimes two years ago I tried registering with them, it was as if they made a mistake in allowing me only for them to all of a sudden cancelled my account. What? they said for security reasons.

Oh yes! I have heard about graphcard since 2006 but I doubt if it is not another Scam. My doubt reached the height that I though they may be another 'peck and sucks'. I even went as far as registering with them as registeration is free online but I never fund it till date!

I think I better check back on them. A friend of mine actually was insistent that they are good.

Little common issues but not good enough for me to say NO.

Try GTB MasterCard, "The Preferred". It rocks but just that my CVV2 code is one of a kind.

I use it to buy software and licenses. I can pay my partners in US and India smoothly.

CONDITIONS: Just mind the time you deposit cos it's not instant to deposit. Someone from GTB has to take transport to MasterCard office and leave for home early enough. i.e. if you deposit after 12 noon, he would have gone to work and would not answer you.

Something like that. Otherwise! All is well!

I CAN SAY WITH AUTHORITY THAT THE DEPOSIT TRANSFER I DID THRU. THEM TOOK TWO DAYS WHILE A PARTICULAR BANKS MAKING SO MUCH NOISE COULD DO IT IN ABOUT TWO WEEKS.

For me, i have other solutions to this. I will not try it. I know what i will encounter if i get into it.

When ever the banks in Nigeria finally wake up from their slumber

For now, i avoid it like a plague. I'm okay with using paypal.

I have the GTB Master card and I have used it online to buy stuff. However, some online merchants do not accept transactions from Nigeria.

So, even after you receive your payment transaction confirmation email, the merchant ends up cancelling the order due to my geographical area.

The only disadvantage is when you want a merchant to refund you money back to your card. It takes almost 24days for the credit to reflect.

Also, Access Bank is advertising an International Credit Card with a line of credit in dollars or naira. I have tried to apply online thrice but to no avail. It is giving some programming errors. I have informed their technical department twice but they are yet to fix it.

Online Application Portals are still at baby's stage in Nigeria. What a pity!

I wonder: if Mastercard has agreed to do business with Nigerian banks, why would they not insist that Nigerian banks do all that is needed to make their cards work worldwide, online and at merchants shops?

There are Europeans countries worse than Nigeria in fraud and crime, yet, they do successful internet transactions with credit cards, may be is due to the volume of "legitimate transactions" that they do or some other reasons.

Sites like Ebay and Timberland, once you select NIGERIA, the next message is that credit cards are not accepted as a means of payment from this country.

That is left for ebay and timberland to answer.I suppose,if you buy indigenous products you wont have that problem.

Is it possible to verify Paypal accounts with the credit cards issued by Nigerian banks?

Hey guys, as at the time I started this thread, I was a bit skeptical about the mastercard thing.

Right now, I have registered with GTBank. I have received the card and I have started doing online payments with it without hassles. It works. I do not have the first issue about it. So guys, what are you waiting for?

The major, if not the only problem lies with the banks themselves. ALL banks that issue Mastercard/Visa cards are guilty of this crime. They are NOT doing enough to address the problem of non-acceptance of Nigerian issued credit/debit cards. Full stop. They can do so much more, but their inherent talent for generally lousy customer service does not allow them do more. They can do such things as pull their weight together and put pressure on Mastercard/Visa to encourage online merchants to stop rejecting 9ja issued cards. They also can contact merchants who refuse to honor a 9ja issued card and ask/insist that the card be honored. Instead they sit on their asses and collect the yearly fees and all what not.

I have a card from intercontinental, which I use more for subscriptions and anything that does not involve physical shipping. The first time I tried to have something shipped to me, the transaction went through and the email said my goods would be shipped the next day. I got a mail the next say saying they don't ship internationally, and that my order was not processed and my card would not be charged. Month end comes, and I see a charge in my statement of account for the transaction in question. Long story short, it took Intercontinental bank almost 4 months to get my money back. After uncountable calls checking up on them and sitting on their asses. This is the second time I've had to ask that a chargeback be made. The first time took almost 5 months.

Now, whenever I have to ship physically, I send to my cousin in the US who ships to 9ja regularly. She just includes my stuff in her paackage and it gets to me in about 2-3 weeks.

Bottom line, we will get there eventually, we can only wish these stupid (and I'm almost tempted to say the silly people who run these banks) banks would help us get there faster.

Might I add, I've sold a few things on ebay several times. and I paid my seller fees using my 9ja issued Mastercard and they gladly accepted my money. It's usually all these smaller merchants who don't honor 9ja cards. yes they are being careful, but sometimes they are also just plain stupid. Paypal and 9ja Debit cards, FORGET IT.

We are contented with the interswitch ATM cards if it's just about making purchases in Nigeria.
If no Merchant will accept it, they banks should either stop issuing them or get something done fast.

Till then, i'm contented with using paypal. Besides, i do buy from ebay and it gets shipped to Nigeria.
I will continue to do this despite the cost until our Banks realise what Banking is all about.

true could be the trend of legitimate business or those countries have their postal residential address verifiable by the local govt that is stored properly its not exactly easy or cheap to send goods to nigeria

or perhaps those EU countries have some sort of agreement concerning business/customer dispute and refund policies they honour

rlly surprised by ur comments here; I av been usin my mastercard for over a year now, and I have been usin it for different onlione transactions n it has never for once given me any prob. am talkin about ecobank mastercard. its d only one av evr used and so far had nver given me any prob.

Master card is very different from bank issued debit card okay. Thats why your Nig. master/visa card will work however to own one in Nigeria you need to be mega-rich. So watin 'poor' man go do?

the next time i visit the branch am closing the AC and returning the plastic card,
why I have to pay for having the plastic in my wallet,

NEVER work, was only lucky to pull my initial deposited fund from a Zenith ATM.

NEWZ,  I got a letter from the branch that am on a debit of $200
ha ha ha for not even using the plastic LoL.

I am surprised some of you have successfully used the GTB Master card for online transactions. My experience has been very bitter. Since I obtained the card two weeks ago duly  funded and activated, I have not successfully made any online transaction. All the sites I visited to purchase downloadable softwares and ebooks redirected me to Clickbank or paypal. Clickbank always give the message: "Unable to process your order at this time ". When I complained to Clickbank, they sent me the following message:

On rare occasions the bank network may decline perfectly good cards.  We are not told the reason why a particular card is declined, and we cannot take orders by phone or fax.  The best advice would be to try your purchase again with a different card.  If this doesn't work for you then please contact the publisher directly for alternative payment options, such as money orders, checks, etc.

We apologize for the inconvenience.

I also complained to GTB but all what they told me is that my card is ok as it is funded and activated. It is against this background that I am begging those of you who have successfully used their GTB Mastercard to kindly list the sites that accepted the card. Any advice on other payment options with my card is welcome. Please help because I have hundreds of dollars locked up in the card. Thanks

Umm, Thank God this is the end. I now have a master card by GTB-bank.

For Mastercards i don't know but i must assured you that Visa cards are perfectly working any where in the world. The Visa Classic Debit Card i am using now was issued to me by Skye Bank and i have used it in Francis, Moscow and London. My mother also has Visa Gold Debit Card issued to her by UBA and according to her there has not being any issue in its functionality abroad. I would advice you go to these Banks and ask for Visa cards because it is working.

I am aware some banks in Nigeria have started issuing Visa dual currency cards, but am not sure how it works since i have not made use of it. though Banks claim it is ties to both your naira account and domicilary account.
