Taking Less Money is a Difficult Decision When I am in the process of evaluating a domain name to buy, I will “appraise” it in my head. This appraisal is very basic and consists of two numbers – what I think I could get for it should the right buyer come around and what I am sure I could get for it if I wanted to sell it quickly. I’ll give you a quick example to illustrate how I consider the value of an acquisition. I think I could sell Drafting.com for $75,000 if the right buyer comes around, and I am very confident I could sell it at this moment for $18,000 if I wanted to liquidate it for some reason. You may have a differing opinion, but these numbers are what helps define my personal risk tolerance when buying a domain name, and we all have various levels of tolerance based on our businesses. One issue most of us face is that sometimes the best and most obvious buyer for a domain name inquires about it, but he (or the company) doesn’t have the ability or interest in spending close to the value you hold for the domain name. For instance, a major CAD software company might want to buy Drafting.com, but the most they will spend is $30,000. When this happens, I need to consider a few things to determine whether I should sell the domain name to this company for their best offer, or if I should hang on to the domain name and hope that a company with deeper pockets inquires or the company decides to up their offer at a later point. In a situation like this, there are several things I consider: Do I want the cash instead of the domain name? What are the tax implications of selling? Can I improve my domain portfolio by selling this name and replacing it with another domain name? If I see this on DNJournal’s sales report, would I think “wow, that was cheap?” How many inquiries have I had on this domain name? What are the odds that someone else will want to buy it for more money in the future? Could I be wrong about my valuation of the domain name? Have I already contacted other prospective buyers without any interest? Although my business relies on the sale of domain names for the majority of its cash flow, I am probably not going to sell a domain name at a price I will regret in the future. However, there are times that it’s in my company’s best interest to sell a domain name for less than I think it’s worth. DomainInvesting 2 Likes 1 Share |

One way to do a good self appraisal of your exact match keywords domain is to multiply the average monthly searches by the Google PPC. E.g 3500 monthly searches and $1.08 PPC will give 3500*1.08 = $3780. For .com domains only. The .net domain is 25% of the .com value. 2 Likes |

who has in-depth knowledge and can analyse the working system of Google Keyword Planner? I mean: "Competition" ; "Suggested bid" ; "Ad impression share" "CTR" ; "Avg CPC" Any iorta of knowledge will help the thread. I dont think it has been discussed in this thread. |

shawnmayour: who has in-depth knowledge and can analyse the working system of Google Keyword Planner? Competition from my understanding shows if the keyword is valued by advertisers or not. If high, advertisers considers it valuable and if low, they consider it not worth it. If medium, know that small scale marketers value it. Suggested bid is the minimum value google considers good enough to generate a good click through rate CTR to generate traffic to the ad. I am not sure of ad impression share. 1 Like |

thegoodjoehunt:Can you lay your hands on figures? what range of values makes a good Suggested bid? A keyword that has low Avg. monthly searches (20) but have a 'high' Competition and a suggested bid of $13.50 juxtaposed with another keyword which has an Avg. monthly search of 1500 but a very low competiton and a suggested bid of $1.90 Can you make detailed explanation on the bolded above? Which is more important in all of the parameters? |
Re: Domain Name Business; The Easiest & The Most Profitable Online Venture by thegoodjoehunt(m): 8:34pm On Dec 02, 2013 |
shawnmayour: Can you lay your hands on figures? When it comes to domaining, what is most important are searches (exact), competition, cpc that is cost per click. Suggested bid relates more to the advertiser. That is how much money to spend to get a buying customer. If the competition is high, advertisers are ready to spend more money to stay ahead of the competition. So high cpc directly relates to competition. Finally a keyword like helicopter trips might not have high searches but the buyers spend much money compared to acne creams. That is why a high cpc can compesate for low searches. Note, a keyword having low searches but a high cpc or suggested bid might have low number of companies in the business, thus low number of end users to sell to. 1 Like |
