Niyoo, good man, it just so happens that I quite enjoy hearing colorful and imaginative insults, so I would be most grateful if you would kindly just go ahead and let fly with a few NOW so as to display your creativity in that uniquely Nigerian mode of communication which has earned so many folks free room and board at Her Majesty's pleasure.

Fortunately for you there is no penalty for displaying this talent here on the internet, though obviously if you prefer to conduct your insult program against more worthy adversaries, then by all means wait till you are on your next flight to the UK before launching into a tirade, so as to definitively learn just how promptly you get 'cuffed and relocated to the Hounslow West police station after the aircraft lands.

As for selling birth-rights, I must confess that I may indeed have already sold mine years ago, although I can't be certain on this since I would not recognize a birth-right even if I was hit over the head with one.

To all who think there are two sides to this story you must be absolutely bonkers.
BA has a history of maltreatment of Nigerians.
It was published in the Independent that BA has a history of rascism.
They were deporting a Nigerian fair enough.
They maltreated him. Not fair.

BA maltreated nobody it was the people Police that were escorting the man. if we are talking of maltreatment.
Re: British Airways Regrets Maltreatment Of Nigerians by doe: 1:36pm On May 04, 2008
Me still think this is all about compensation. Ayodeji Omotade is just milking it in the hope there will be some financial reward at the end of it.
How can anyone spin "i go die" to mean he was about to be killed by the authorities? If i was the CPS i will make an example to him

Fellow Nairalanders i think we should stop using abusive words in this regards, can our own Virgin Nigeria treat a Briton
that way regardless of the offense that he might have committed? let us start this way if our government regards us as
they ought to BA will be running different kinds of promos to have Nigerians Board their 'imperial' air line.
If we have more than enough indigenous Air lines that are of comparable standard with BA or even better why will i opt for a an imperial Air Line that has no respect for my dignity and human right just because i am a Nigerian!

The issue of deportation still boils down on our Abuja not doing the right thing for us as Nigerians if somebody must be deported the the relevant international Law should be dully followed. i know and i am sure the existing international Law that relates to deportation has some human face.

Relevant authorities should not handle this issue will levity such as they have done, the BA imbroglio should be properly probed and if BA authorities is found wanting they should be made to pay for their contempt on Nigerians

Nevertheless Nigerian should know their bounds at all times and everywhere they found themselves after all we are one of the major contributor to the imperial Lord's economy they need us more than we think forget about the overzealous British khaki boys who are looking for promotion.

I believe in Nigerians we excelled under all conditions, look at the graduation list of most UK universities every year Nigerian are always more among the best graduands, and in so many other endeavors too so take it or leave it Nigeria and Nigerians are very important to the British Government.

Lol. When are you guys going to get over this issue? Just let it go. There are more important things to be bothered about.

I read through the posts and someone was suggesting that we should stand up for our fellow Nigerians. Seriously, the dude broke the law (effectively committing a crime), and you expect me to stand up for him in such a situation? No way, dude. Not in this lifetime.

Let me lay it down on the line here

If you're a Nigerian living in Nigeria, you've probably seen police maltreating Nigerians for no good reason.

Now, how many of you have ever intervened?
I mean, we all see police parading men in their underwear on camera. How many of you have raised an eyebrow?

Self-righteousness and hypocrisy are rife in Nigerians

YourFather:

All you guys talking in favour of BA's action are exactly what is wrong with Nigeria and Blacks at large.

First although you don't have a confirmed BA view on this, you are more than willing to accept with prejudice that it has to be the Nigerian's fault,  when will this self hate stop.

What happened to standing up for your own,  people like you disgust me, you actually think you are intelligent but a far cry from it, people you are the types of idiots who sold their fellow beings as salve because they think they deserve it.

So we should now start thanking BA because they haven't thrown us of their planes more often,  you should be ashamed of that statement. If you actually do know anything, you would understand that the british fun seeking holiday crowd are actually one of the most unrully in the world.

We are Nigeria, we are not perfect, but when any Airline in the world, throws 136 of us of the plane,  it matters not if they have justification, but they have to answer to the Nigerian public. We need to learn to stand up for ourselves, support each other,  because no one else will.

I am Nigerian, and I love you all.

word.
Please indicate if you are Nigerian and proud to be one. To all you of you who have been typing crap, i do hope you get the British citizenship you have been hustling for cos you are forever lost.  kojo abi what is that your name and the rest, lol, you dont make sense at all.
If you are proud to be Nigerian, please indicate in the last line of your posts!
I AM NIGERIAN, AM PROUD TO BE ONE, cool

Please,  read the posts yourself before you jump to conclusion. There are now tons more articles out there with information from boths sides for you to research and get a 360 of what actually may have happened. Please read,  NOT ALL the 130 people ushered off the plane were Nigerians. There were americans and even britons among those who were ordered off the plane and some put on other planes while others had to wait in hotels, paid for by BA, till the next day to take a new flight out.

Instead of acting like uneducated people who allow their emotions get the best of them each time, might I ask that we consult reason when we try to deal with situations of any kind, especially situations such as this that could potentially add more stress to the already stressed reputation we have as Nigerians in today's world.

Am a Nigerian and am proud of the fact, i cant be prouder anywhere else on the face of the earth.
However i am not happy at the lightning speed which some posters discountenanced Mr Omotade's story as tales by moolight but same people accepted BA's story as the 'Holy Bible' or the 'Holy Grail'. For God sake any discerning person will know that the same law of self preservation that may make Mr Omotade garnish and edit his story is also applicable to BA in there feeble attempt to protect one of there most lucrative routes (check what you pay for Lagos - London and the cost of say London- Chicago which is a longer distance and often half full)

In the light of the recent murder of a Nigerian deportee (Aikpitani?) aboard one European flight, a savvy airline that does hold it's passengers in disdain that intends to ferry a deportee needing police escort should have taken time to prepare the mind of travellers and explain there intention to make it humane and ensure minimum standards are followed by the officers in the deportation procedure such that no fatalities will occur. In their pitiful explanation taken as 'Final Revealation from Almighty' by some posters, the airline never mentioned any attempt on their part to calm the situation or assure passengers nothing untoward may happen. They carried on their business with characteristic aloofness with full knowledge of how dramatic deportation can be.
One would expect BA to be the champion of representations to their government to overhaul deportation procedures so that the Spanish tragedy will not happen in their own plane.

If a Briton cuffed and gagged ,had recently being murdered on say Ghana or Kenya airways flight to London would British passengers sit calmly sit calmly sipping coffee and munching pastries in a Virgin Nigeria flight to London with a Briton surrounded by black shirt Nigerian policemen  cuffed and gagged, shouting 'help i am dying'? Would the UK government take the case as one of those things.

Forget the lame excuse of 'we don't interfere in goverment business' where their commercial interest is in jeopardy they do interfere. A case in point  i was in a group of ten on BA flight to Houston and we encountered immigration at Chicago, five of us passed immigration while five were held by immigration on account of carrying a BA open ticket valid for one year while we had 6 months visa. The funny aspect is we all had exactly same type of ticket and similarly worded invitation letters. The five of us who had passed immigration picked our luggage but protested the treatment of our colleagues and refused to board the flight to Chicago (this was 2005 post 9/11). Heavens did not fall and weren't arrested. The BA officials tried to persuade the 5 of us to board to no avail, we simply asked them to intervene on behalf of our colleagues to which they initially refused, citing non-inference in government business clauses. Eventually seeing our resolve, they went into the immigration shed and facilitated making calls to our host for confirmation. Our colleagues joined us on the flight, but we learnt our action caused a 30 minutes delay and the plane was only quarter filled, that they had commercial interests to protect.

It is one of their own that lay the allegations against them, from what he saw among his colleagues. Was not sure what to believe at first but after i saw the link and the stories, common open your eyes,

1) The fine Nigerian Bar association ended up demanding BA pay is now about luggage that Omotade lost and has little of nothing to do with the racism charge which this was made about. There is another thread on here with details on that fine and needed information for you to read and see what this is slowly turning into.

2) This case is not about what you think the history of BA is but what happened  back in march as told by BOTH sides and not just the Nigerian side.

3) This isn't the first time that a former/current employee has raised complaints against a company. That is definitely not going to be used by the court to prove your ideas of this particular case being a race issue when all the evidence seems to points in the other direction. If the courts where to accept the claims of that employee as fact for this case, then it might as well let Naomi campbell have her case since she also claimed "racism" when she was thrown off BA the same week Omotade was hurled off the place by UNITED KINGDOM police and not BA police.

4) I suggest you and all people who have seen this please spend time reading all round. Do not just read from one source cause that leads to myopic view but read from all sides and be better informed.

5) Whatever case Omotade supposedly has, seems to be with the UK police and not with BA. He himself made the decision to confront the UK police who were doing their job on the plane and so, he took the law in his hands there and it was UK police that lead him off the plane and UK police that detained him and not BA. The minute he opened his mouth to the policeman, BA could no longer do anything as they themselves are bound by the same UK laws as Omotade was. So please, instead of getting carried away here, let us try to understand fact from fiction.

6) Like someone pointed out earlier, in Nigeria, there are lots of things you do and get away with but you step out of that country into a world were the laws are enforced, be sure to have the law on your back if you feel it is your place to do as you please. I am not saying this is the case of Omotade but I am saying this is how it works in most of the developed world. So, if you can not stand the heat and the laws, do not pack your bag and go to someplace like Saudi arabia and cry foul when they decide to take your head when you are caught dealing drugs or womanizing. LMAO!!!

I simply don't get Nigerians!!! We are demanding for foreigners to stop maltreating when in fact we are the biggest culprits. Some "thieves" were caught the other day and were asked to strip naked and their pictures were published in a news paper. There was a woman among them and i was really disgusted. No man or women should be deprived of their basic rights to be tried before being condemned. I didn't hear anyone complaining.

When the Nigerian police or military are operating, nobody dares interfer. It is a known fact that the British Transport Police are present at all international airports to maintain safety and security of all. I do not support maltreatment of anybody, but most people bring such fate upon themselves.

@Ovamland,

There is a difference between being delayed due to immigration enquiries and visa checks and being delayed due to a security issue. I am sure you guys that got through didn't raise any unnecessary alarm and cause any disturbance. The US police are actually stricter than the UK ones.

Do you go around to just anyone to demand to not to be maltreated You are trying to make demands based on what ?? What is the evidence for such in this case  Turns out instead of accusing the British Police, the man is accusing BA here and our dear Nigerian Bar Association and President decided to JUMP on this one with the media without making sure to get actual more information and now all NBA is doing is suing for lost luggage,  LMAO!!!

I mean I really have to say we keep trying to make jokes of our selves if we consider to make rash decisions like this. We have been trying to demand better treatment from Nigerian police for like forever now, has it changed?? Only God will help us. But my prayer daily is that God open the eyes of Nigerians everywhere so we start realizing that the world does not revolve around us and that we also need to consult reason in all we do so we do not fall into these things both back at home and abroad.

@YourFather and Ovamboland

Thank you for addressing the real issue here. How many times have we heard UK drunk and rowdy football fans where kicked off the plane or the HEn and Stag night team. BA has no respect for Nigeria and its because we havent got a Government that speaks for us. there is a great difference in the BA planes to Nigeria and the one that go anywhere else the difference is like taking a molue and a chartered taxi.

If we dont recognise the strenght of our spending power purely based on numbers then we would always thing we are being done a favour and not make demands that we are entitled to do.

I recommend we boycott BA flights to Lagos (Nigeria) till the end of this year and see if their profits will not fall. Maybe when they recognise us we can begin to ask for fair treatment and ticket prices. London Lagos route never has a low season ticket or promotion like the other routes.

Nigerians always complain about how we are (mal)treated by foreigners. have we ever asked ourselves how we treat ourselves? How the police shoot and kill innocet people for a N20 handout? How the same police parade suspected criminals in their underwear? How military personel beat up people on the streets for some perceived insult? How pensioners line up (and die) for their pensions? How our streets and environment only get a face lift when a foreign dignitary is visiting? How we sell fake drugs to ourselves? How bus drivers increase the fare when there is rainfall or hevy traffic? I could go on and on. When a white man see's how we treat ourselves how do u expect him to treat us?

As much as there are arrogant and obnoxious Nigerians so also do you have Americans, Britons and Europeans, they also fly commercial airlines and are not treated with disdain and disrespect.

Look at it carefully a disproportionate number of police brutality cases (Remember lynching of blacks in the US) is usually meted out on blacks Rodney King, Jamaicans etc), are we still regarded as sub-humans? And some blacks actually advocate the best response is to bury our heads in the sand like ostrich and believe all is well as far we are not personally touched. To those posters would Mr Omotade's be more agreable if the deportee was his blood brother?

If BA is not British police as advocated by some posters and are not biased in anyway how come the life ban and why must Mr Omotade's luggage be the one to get mutilated?

THIS IS PURELY A MINISTER IN CHARGE OF OUR FOREIGN AFFAIRS/AVIATION STANDING UP FOR A NIGERIAN IN THE DIASPORA'S RIGHT,NOT A NIGERIAN/NIGERIANS LIVING IN NIGERIA AND THAT IS WHY YAR ADUA DID NOT MAKE A PUBLIC STATEMENT OR MINISTER OF INFORMATION THIS IS SIMPLE POLITICS,

This issue should in no way be construed as a test for patriotism. There are two sides of the coin here, and either side may be right or wrong.
It doesn't make you more of a good Nigerian if you side with Omotade or not. Y'all need to stop deceiving yourselves.

1. pay taxes regularly to Nigeria.
2. Shun corruption and indiscipline
3. Pay utility bills promptly to ensure good service for everyone else.

Nigerians should possibly boycott the airline for a month and lets see the effect.

Because the man confronted British police directly on a BA plane, on British soil. If you understand how these things work, here is a clue. BA is subject to British law. If you commit a crime against the British government on British soil, whether in a BA plane, it is British government and not BA that you have to deal with.

also, the guy complaining is not the deportee so he really didnt commit any crime. then again, why shouldnt he be compensated for maltreatment, is he the first, will he be the last?
