If he was a good leader that deserves to rest in one piece or pieces its only God that can give that verdict. There is this saying that whatsoever we agree upon on earth will be accepted in heaven there was great jubilation in 9ja when he died oh what I don't know is that if it was extended to heaven. |

Nonybb: Had he been alive till today he would have legalize boko haram and conduct many successful pogrom. Hausa retardeensDo you reason through your anus? BH are insurgents, how on earth will a tough military personnel like Gen. Sani Abacha give room for that. Besides, state of security in the nation was well balanced, the economy wasn't as stagnant as it is now. I wouldn't blame toddlers like you. 3 Likes |

I remember jubilating, since everyone was, the day he died. astaghfirullah. Now, I don't wish he stayed longer. We can at least say our mind without fear. |

Bigcake: Because he didnt kill ur father like he did to Saro Wiwa.. A good leader who wanted to be a sit tight leader. Just to mention a few. But your father saro-wiwa encouraged the killing of the elders from his people. Or are these murdered people from ogoniland not fathers and bread-winners? 2 Likes |

The most patriotic pan-nigerian leader we`ve ever had. Very decisive, firm and resolute - every inch the kind of no nonsence leader nigeria deserve. Needless to say God was with him and took care of his enemies - Kudirat, diya and other tribalists and fake democrats. He was corrupt? Nonsense, infact he is a saint compared to the rogues in power now. 1 Like |

Abacha may not be perfect (but who on planet earth is?), however, he can‘t in anyway be compared to this clueless unpresidential so-called Commander-in-Chief. He‘ll be remembered, if not for anything atleast for standing firm against the imperial/colonial west that unfortunately today control the present administration despite its nepotism, dictatorship, election malpractice, kleptocracy, among others. R.I.P General! 1 Like |

Under him with all the sanctions from the west, our economy was stable he took no loan from imf fuel prices were increased but slowly to curshion the effect of the sanctions but he also brought down the price. Kerosene was expensive sha under him (abacha stove) roads were built prices of goods and foodstuffs were cheap we progressed internationally too especially sportwise. Discipline was also witnessed in civil service. Noise makers were dealt with. Our economy in general strive and we were no pushover under him by other countries. |

After reading the comments on this thread, I must say we NEED ANOTHER ABACHA, particularly, to deal with or if I may borrow Abacha's word "dissolve" some of Nairalanders. Most of you are the most ignorant piece of sh$it I have seen in my life. The saddest thing is when you look up their profiles, these are men in their 30s, 40s and 50s. Meaning, they have no absolute clue of why Abacha was killed after all these years and never care to research. Yes he dissolved some individuals, what leader hasn't? Democracy is not for every country. Some countries need dictatorship to manage its stubborn citizenry. Typical example is Nigeria where 90% of its citizenry are psychologically mad. This has been proven by Psychologists and psychiatrists. 5 Likes |

It's sad that despite the gross human rights violations, the extra-judicial killings and the unwanton looting all which I read on the pages of TELL, some elements here still maintain the Evil General's regime was better than recent democracy regimes. |

freshcvv: if you so wish to be lorded over by some megalomaniac who will dish out random favors to those and those only who crave his d1ck and put the rest to servitude over his d1cktatorship, then please be my guest and start a communist movement. Just like about everything else that is imported into this country be it technology or infrastructural hardware, policies, etc democracy understandably can not be practiced to it's desirable level for the simple reason that you niggaz can't handle sh1t beyond your own excrement. |

Sure, Abacha was not popular but I wish our current president had some f his attributes (asides eliminating dissent, of course). Abacha was resolute and quite a man of his word (even though that word wasn't always good but he always made good on his assurances). He was decisive and didn't take too long to take action when the need arose. I don't think I miss him, certainly. But I do miss the order that reigned and the Naira's value and the fuel prices of the time. I'm happy we're in a democratic dispensation but sometimes, we do need a bit of a stronger hand on certain issues. |

eGuerrilla: Sure, Abacha did siphon plenty of money, but under his regime, except you were in his good books, you couldn't just wake up one morning, steal government mone and expect to get away with it once it is found out. Unlike now that any jones in government can make away with billions and still be handed a chieftaincy title to boot. |
Re: Sani Abacha - 15 Years After by Nobody: 1:30pm On Jun 08, 2013 |
Sincere 9gerian: Some Nigerians are always progressing in the reverse (their yesterday is always better than today). They abuse the current president today but will surely praise him tomorrow. Kudos to you for this piece. I feel most of the people praising this Abacha guy were still crawling those days. In addition to your points How many people were killed, bombed and maimed? How many freedom fighters were detained and tortured? How many copies of TELL magazine were destroyed...equipment inclusive? How many labour union leaders were tormented .....remember Frank Kokori's actions? How much was salary of workers then? How many cars did you see on the road....especially civil servants? How many billions of dollars were looted? How many health facilities were provided? How many factories died of economic uncertainty? How many embargoes from the west? That was another dark era in the history of Nigeria. As it was popular said in those days: THE WORST DEMOCRATIC GOVERNMENT IS STILL BETTER THAN THE BEST MILITARY GOVERNMENT.....FULL STOP. 2 Likes |

senbonzakura_kageyoshi: Do you have any idea what proportion of the Nation's earnings Abacha stole or what living conditions were like under his regime? Of course not! I sense you are treating this issue with levity because you are a poor student of history. |

eGuerrilla: for a lay man on the street, the difference is clear. i remember 3cups of garri sold for 5 naira then, how much is a cup of garri now. pump price of pms remained at 11 naira, infact those marketers who didnt want to comply with the price regime were forced to, hw much is the pump price of pms now. the naira was stable at 71 to a dollar through out his 5year reign, hw much is naira now to a dollar. with all the sanctions imposed on nigeria during his time, he managed to rule without borrowing a cent from no westerner, hw much debt have we incured just in the last 2years and hw well have we been able to use the monies borrowed. Abacha was a patriotic leader and it was through and through. the most unfortunate thing about nigerian politics is it is only those who do not even wish to become democratic leaders that end up being. people who have wanted it badly never get there. i pray someday soon, we will get a well prepared democratic leader so he wont be short of ideas and discernment 1s he/she gets there 1 Like |
