This is the message I sent to the NCC email: SUBJECT: Data plans MESSAGE: The current data plans available for non-blackberry users across all the networks is not fair. It doesn't give value for money. The average android user, uses about 50mb per day, that's 250mb in 5 days. MTN gives 250mb for a N1000. For that same N1000 blackberry users get approximately 2200mb. This happens across all the other networks. As a government agency protecting the interests of the Nigerian people in the telecommunication sector, I (and other affected Nigerians) implore NCC to do something about this issue. Thank you and God bless our country. 3 Likes |

feranchek78:Ur welkom. Its not really an OS issue per say. For example, type 0.facebook.com and u'd access fb even without subscribing to data plan but at a stripped down experience. This is because FB has an agreement with telecomm operators for that and thus "subsidizes" for you to access the link. Its pretty much same what BB has done with its BIS/BBC offering. Hence they actually subsidise for those bandwidths u get at low cost (either by cash or hardware support eg server hosting compression) that's why they seem cheap. The frustration shud be vented towards google/Apple more than towards the telecomm operators. They have given u their own data plan offerings, if you don't like it u might as well stick to bb and utilise their own data offerings for now while we wait for more improvements to the data offerings. 2 Likes |

But since wen blackberry is now standing alone dey now have access to ping with dere money wen dey exhaust dere data cap. dnt b fooled if you claim you know about this network trafficking then you will not be misleading pple with your Wrong facts. |

The twitter hashtag is too long and not catchy. . That why you guyz have not gotten the needed attention on social media except nairaland. . .Its also come at the wrong time where an issue involving child marriages has gone viral which to nigerians is more of an important issue. I shall observe sha. . . . |

yehmy:Point of correction pls, like I said please go and do some homework first, blackberry is not standing alone, RIM is now Blackberry (RIM makes blackberry and offer blackberry services, just like apple make iphone, ipod, macs etc) RIM has never been seperate from blackberry, they are one and the same. Secondly, BBM isn't the only thing that is encrypted, ur email is too, same with ur browser as long as ur using BIS/BBC. Basically everything u do on ur bbc (as long as u aren't utilising ur network providers APN in ur TCP/IP) is being encrpypted and compressed at blackberry server end. Blackberry decided to go a differnt route on "subscription protocol" with their phones running QNX (BB10 OS) because: 1. Remember the incident last three yrs when their server went out, it cost them a lot of their enterprise userbase as well as monetary compensation for the service disruption, coincidentally lots of corporate organisations adopted iphone and to a lil extent android after that debacle. Thus they also considered the scenario repeating itself again and opted against it on the BB10 phones hence allowing u flexibility of changing internet provider shud that be an issue (bbm, mails don't work on older devices without BIS/BBC, but u can still use ur browser and other third party apps in later revision of the OS (OS5 to OS7) 2. Purpose of server end compression services (BIS/BBC) in the first instance primarily, was to ensure smooth packet transfer because data services back then wasn't very efficient due to yet inadequate facilities by even the likes of tmobile, AT&T et cetera, because their main customers was enterprise users and not you or me initially... Unlike now that we have 3G, 4G and even 4G advanced in south korea. I cud go on and on, but like I said, pls go do some homework before u dispute the facts I laid out. |

Many of us think of the Internet as a global community. But two-thirds of the world’s population does not yet have Internet access. Project Loon is a network of balloons traveling on the edge of space, designed to connect people in rural and remote areas, help fill coverage gaps, and bring people back online after disasters. Project Loon balloons float in the stratosphere, twice as high as airplanes and the weather. They are carried around the Earth by winds and they can be steered by rising or descending to an altitude with winds moving in the desired direction. People connect to the balloon network using a special Internet antenna attached to their building. The signal bounces from balloon to balloon, then to the global Internet back on Earth. Project Loon starts in June 2013 with an experimental pilot in New Zealand. A small group of Project Loon pioneers will test the technology in Christchurch and Canterbury.for android users |

dis is wat i posted on my fb timeline just recently, you all shud pls do dis n invite our pals you all should please join the ongoin thread about fair data usage in nigeria instigated by nigerian youth to demand fair and just data subscriptions like bb subcription for all other data users like pc,Android, symbians and even java fones. Join the movement now or never,it's time we nigerian youth speak for ourselves because the future of this great nation lies on our shoulders and we can't achieve anything by mere sitting on our hands,we have to strive and it all start somewhere. some people would think that should not be our priorities now but i tell you the importance of using internet by the students cannot be over-emphasized especially in this protruding era where you have to read online, print out, post on your school course forum which is being used to award marks in schools like FUTA,and so many varied reasons. with #1000,we alk know can sunscribe for unlimited usage on blackberries and the same #1000 you will b given just 200mb for all other users apart from bb users,be it Aos,Ios,symbian, window phones, java,pc, etc. Truely we can agree this is not fair.We know how much data Aos,for example, consume daily and the fact that Aos and Ios is now the favourite all over the world and of course the reasons we ain't ignorant of. Pls let's not listening to their biz strategies as they would always have one or two excuses to give with their sweet talk...Enough said at this juncture, action they say speak louder and better than speech. We will be addressing other issues subsequently but let us deal with this telcoms and NCC first. Like the page of this revolution on fb 'data users demand fairness' and on twitter follow # datausersdemand sfairness ...do these and post on your fb timeline, twitter pg and inform others. Thanks and God bless Nigeria |
