Re: Religion Section 'awards Night' by MrTroll(m): 1:07pm On Oct 15, 2013
Ok then. @Alfa, pls create a separate thread for the panel members to deliberate on the format of the upcoming year end religious section awards...thanks smiley

Good, we have 4 votes. Motion passes. Let's start this thing.
Re: Religion Section 'awards Night' by AlfaSeltzer(m): 1:16pm On Oct 15, 2013
Here's the new thread for panel members only. See you there.

Alfa Seltzer:

I have to shake my head at you.

I put up a motion and already have one vote. Still waiting for other to vote. You made a counter suggestion and one support later, voila! ADOPTED!

What type of wuruwuru is this? You are not even a member of the panel. In what capacity are you still participating in this?

I have no ish with this....

If you guys want it somewhere else and you all want it private, then I am cool with it.
Re: Religion Section 'awards Night' by Nobody: 2:37pm On Oct 15, 2013
Alfa Seltzer: I want to make a proposition for a rule that will guide us here.
That whatever we decide becomes binding after it has been voted upon and gathers a majority of four votes. That whatever is set for vote will require a seconding and then 24 hours for everybody to vote on it.
What do you think?
https://www.nairaland.com/1479178/end-year-awards-organisation-thread#18835212

Alfa with all due respect, the simple majority system you have up there gives an unfair advantage to non-Christians. If there is a vote and all you need is just 4 out of seven then it would effectively mean that the Christians will have no say in the matter, given that they are just 3 out of the 7 member panel.

A better way of voting is by a simple majority of 4, but these 4 must have at least one individual from each sect i.e since we have 2 pagans, 3 Christians and 2 irreligious folks then a fair system should be:

1) Irreligious
2) Pagan
3) Christian
4) Any other member

before a motion is deemed to have been acceptable and not just any simple majority system. This should also be done such that any member has the right to withdraw a previous vote cast if it is done in less than 24 hours.

If my suggestion above is accepted then all groups concerned should ensure that they deliberate with each other before given out that one precious vote. If something is to be binding on all then much thought should go in before the vote is cast.

I don't think so. Seeing that Xtians are already a majority there. If a pettern of vote emerges where non-xtians vote sytematically opposed to xtians, we might consider changing the system but implementing your idea now may complicate matters. We want to keep it simple. Members of the same faith might have divergent views.

Alfa Seltzer:

The above would have been correct and quite commendable if this was not the Religion section. It is common knowledge that the divide here is broadly between Christians and non-Christians. From this perspective we can't say that the Christians are the majority.

Alfa Seltzer:

Nah mehn...what will make matters complicated is make a law only to go back and amend it as you have suggested. It is good to get it right from the onset. There is a loophole with the present system you suggested, hence the need to plug it.

If any ish arises in the future which happens to be unsupported by any Christian but gains the support of every non-Christian, then the rules can be seen as being biased towards the non-Christians.

Alfa Seltzer:

You want to keep it simple but the truth here is that nothing is simple when it has to do with the Religion section.
Re: Religion Section 'awards Night' by MrTroll(m): 5:13pm On Oct 15, 2013
Striky you have a point but I think this should be a secular panel where reason and logic instead of (ir)religious sentiments should prevail. for now lets leave it by a simple majority until there is a complaint from the Christians or any other aggrieved party.

I am sure you know that the bold is not what drives folks in this section. Its sad but that's just the way it is for the now. I have stated my concern and will stick by it cause its the right thing.

Given the peculiar nature of this section and the level of distrust, it won't augo well to agree on a law only to go back on it when it does not favour a particular sect. Its advisable to make the rules once and for all.

#My concern has been registered.

noted. to be frank, you have a valid point but I personally want us to give reason a chance in this.

I am quite sure these "True Christians" already have their focus on God and his work. Recognising the good work they have done is a good thing. Anyways, The award(s) is/are not just for Christians. Even Atheists, pagans, Deists etc have a chance at getting this/these recognition(s).

Guys nice job on the award thread. Though I think creating 22 award categories will make the award less meaningfull. I think a maximum of 5 will do.

Alfa Seltzer:

I think we all agree yet on one award that must be given: Best Poster of the year in religion section = Best overall poster.

A second award is required and I don't believe we should encourage division and non participation by proposing factional awards. An atheist may not be inclined to vote for the best religious poster, and vice versa.

I think we should limit awards to general things that cut across all faiths and non-beliefs.
