Re: About Sap? by nnaiah: 12:41pm On Sep 15, 2010 |
From my interaction with those that trained with SAP partners in Nigeria, they had common complaints Poor internet connection during training Poorest and severe epileptic internet connection during exam the training manual are slides from the normal training manual that we all have. I wish digitcom goodluck anyway. Markos thanks for the update |
Re: About Sap? by digitcom: 12:54pm On Sep 15, 2010 |
Hi Nnaiah, Thank you for this. what do you advise? do you think this is a viable business?. SAP E-Academy courses could be done at the comfort of your own location, 'anywhere, anytime' with about 6meg. |
Re: About Sap? by markos: 1:52pm On Sep 15, 2010 |
as Nniah pointed out, poor internet connection might not make the e-learning thing worthwhile, i hear Globalcom are launching a high speed broadband connection similar to what we have here in the Uk if not better, this should be good news, SAP relies so much on having a standard high speed connection especially using SAPNET, SDN network, once this is sorted out, i feel the SAP market in Nigeria will be the next big thing for the middle east and Africa region |
Re: About Sap? by nnaiah: 4:48pm On Sep 15, 2010 |
I think it is a viable business. but you have to look at those that are the verge changing career Have a good marketing plan if you can get a very strong internet provider,it will DEFINITELY help GLO service might be good. Dont rush to subscribe, wait and hear other peoples comments first. your pricing should be good enough to discourage guys from travelling to india, O.G.A digitcom ,I hope yours is affordable. |

This thread has become boring in the last couple of months, we want to hear more sucess stories, not people just asking for where they fit into the SAP world, after reading the entire thread dont think anyone needs to be asking these questions unless they are damn right lazy!! |

Re: About Sap? by mikkioso: 10:05am On Oct 26, 2010 |
Hi, I have really benefit alot from this forum, although this is my first time of contributing on the forum that is because till now I have never worked with SAP before, but after going through this forum I decided to give it a try, I spent lot of weeks online searching for SAP download, finally I found SAP R3 4.7 IDES, the size of all the installation file is 9.10gb including oracle 9.2 and java 1.4 enterprise edition, with my multilinks EVDO, downloading it takes a whole month, then I source for training materials, got some ebooks and other stuffs, then the real gold some interative video tutorials for each SAP module, now comes the installation, I am using a HP Pavilion 2500 with 2gb memory, 150gb hd with about 90gb in use (I really have alot of stuffs I cant throw away), SAP R3 4.7 required winserver 2003 to run and I am running winvista, I can't format my sys and the remaining space is not enough to create new partition and install SAP, well I must be in on this software so I go the way of a virtual Machine, I installed oracle virtualbox, install win2003 as a guest os, set up my network connection, added the folder containing my extracted installation files as a shared folder, I successfully install java 1.4.2, set my environment variables, successfully install oracle 9.2, have some problem installing the patch because I am suppose to stop oracle services before installing the patch, that takes sometime to work out too, then the real war begins. I have been in the IT world for the past 16yrs I have never come across software installation as difficult as installing SAP R3 4.7, with the screenshots of 4.6 that I saw I believe its much easier, the program is written using C++ and Java, you start the installation from a DOS batch file containing commands to check your JAVA_HOME variable, and other things and the installation directories will be created, the system restarts and start the real installation, you have to install what is called the "Central instance Installation" which install all the server components of SAP, you have to provide the sapadmin and sapsystem passwords, give the correct path to your SAP kernel, I have so many problems here, the main reason been that I am installing from a shared folder, when I get to understand this I have to create more space to copy the whole 20gb of installation files into the VM, after iinstalling the "Central", I needed to ask SAP to prepare new installation and now select "Database Instance" which is the major part because here you will be setting up the SAP database into oracle and also all the IDES will be setup, you will need to provide the path to the kernel, and the seven database export data files for the IDES, any mistake here means hours wasted, because this takes lot of time to complete, I have to rerun this about 4 times, the SAP error log really is not for the novice you have to know what you are doing, after completing the database instance then comes the installation of the client frontend which is just a normal installation package, it gives you the GUI interface that allow you to login into the SAP system. I have successfully install my own SAP, and now I am learning how to work around SAP with the help of the videos, though it has not been easy, but the end justify the means, the software is tight, and very interesting expecially if you have programming background, its not just a program but a whole lot of programs bundled together, but with the videos its easy to navigate and understand expect for all the transaction codes. Well I hope this help, if anyone needs help installing SAP, I think now I am in a position to help, if you want me to install SAP R3 4.7 IDES and the videos for you, you have to pay and its not cheap bro, if you don't pay for it you won't appreciate the value of what you have. Any questions you can call me on 08056622241 or email dayoadeb@gmail.com, I only check out the forum once a week so it might take time to get any message dropped here. Thanks to all you great guys that started and contributed on this thread its really a great experience. |

hi Consultants & to-be Consultants in the house, bin a long while. so sori av got my hands and minds soiled with SAP. Am presently working wiv BASIS. I hope more people are becoming more aware of the need for SAP in Nigeria. The only problem i can see in Nigeria is dt we don't have well defined process in our various sectors, for example agric, estate, govt, etc. there would hv bin much more boom in automating this process. we still need much work in naija, my country. We thank God for the ones that are still defined and semi defined. SAP cud still structure and automate it on course. Thanx to our Nigerian counterparts that are also trying to encourage people in this field. but we all have to know it's not a day's job or a month's job. it's not oracle, or ccna. u nid d guts to take what u see. We are presently holding an SAP event in abuja in Nov. and we'll be inviting coys that hope to implement SAP FI and HR. We would take the participants of the event through the whole view from the implementation process to how it's been used with custumosation. if u fink ur coy wud rili be in need of this modules, u can call me on 07025 169 507. NB: The event is strictly by invitation. No payment is involved! For further info, call me! ------------------ If I have seen further it is only by standing on the shoulders of giants. ------------------------------- Briz |

Hello everyone! Markus and others in the UK, Please I have an MBA and IT Bsc. However, I've not been working pe se for some time, marriage and all does that to a woman, LOL However, I am looking at getting back to my career and looking at SAP. I really need advise on how to approach this, I concentrated on Finance and Strategy in my MBA but like I said, I have not been working in Finance for some time. However, I enjoyed my Database classes and programming, just not sure how it will fit in SAP. I would like to be a consultant, I looked at http://www.sap.com/uk/services/education/virtualtraining/index.epx and confused abt what courses I really need. They seem expensive and I don't want to waste money on courses that are not needed. Please has anyone done e-learning? what is your advice? I am looking at FI and Netweaver but not sure which one is more marketable and applicable. I just want to concentrate in one, Thanks a million for all this info! |

My Gosh, Please thank you to people like Kiwi992 and Markos who have been answering questions on SAP since 2008! Thank you soooo much! I have got a lot of information, infact all I need to know has been clarified from this forum. I just want to ask one thing, how can I get the IDES software on my computer to "play around" with? I would really appreciate your help on this, Kiwi, cos you said you had it on your PC, I hope you don't mind sharing the information. If there is a way to send to me or upload on using ftp, would really appreciate! Otherwise any other info will also be appreciated, Thank you so much. So proud to be Nigerian!!!! |
