FG gives ASUU one week ultimatum to call off strike

he Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has been given one week ultimatum to call off the ongoing strike.

The directive was given today, in Abuja by the acting Minister of Education, Mr. Nyesom Wike while speaking with journalists.

The union has been on strike since July 1 over the non Implementation of a 2009 agreement with the federal government.
According to reports, the lecturers at their NEC meeting last week in Kano, demanded that government should pay the four-month salary arrears being owed varsity lecturers while there should be immediate implementation of the N1.2tn offerred by the goverment to public varsities, starting with the release of N100bn this year, before the strike can be called off.

A demand the acting Minister Wike had described as ,”outrageous.”

Meantime, ASUU had said it would meet with President Jonathan on the decisions reached at its NEC meeting before any announcement will be made concerning the 5months old strike.

ASUU went too far.fyi, not all lecturers supported the strike. Learn to leave the stage when the ovation is high... they better resume naw in order to recieve december salary or else,na hunger for them till whenever they willingly change their mind.

They better suspend it now b4 a fed uni pulls out which in turn, will be catastrophic to ASUU as other fed uni will want to do d same.
As for the state uni, they don't have biz with the strike,so I see no Reason why they followed fed uni..

UPDATE: In a telephone interview with Daily Trust, the ASUU chairman, UniAbuja Chapter, Dr. Clement Chup says the union dared the federal government to sack its members over the prolonged universities' strike.
"The school can go ahead and ask students to resume but we won’t do any work; we won’t teach them. It is not our responsibility to resume until ASUU decides.
"We’re not afraid of that (sack). He (Education minister) can go to the motor park to recruit lecturers that will lecture the students. You can now see the insincerity of some people in government. We told the government when we met that we’re ready to suspend the strike once we’re able to clarify some issues in our agreements with them. But they went ahead without clarifying those issues at stake. We dare them to sack us," he said.

How is that Prof Festus Iyayi failed to discern that what is going on is not the normal ASUU strike that usually engages his attention.

The truth is that what is going on is a political action initiated by the born-to-ruin Northern Muslim Hausa-Fulani and its sole objective is the restoration of Presidential Powers to the born-to-rule Northern Muslim Hausa-Fulani on or before 2015.

Attached to this sole objective is the expectation that the strike will help bring down the government of President Goodluck Jonathan.

The ASUU strike plot was conceived and hatched in Kano.

So many Northern Muslim Hausa-Fulani top shots including a well known top business man from Kano participated actively in putting the plot together.

They include Dr Nassir Fagge, an indigene of Kano State and the current President of ASUU. He is also an active member of the Northern Elders Forum led by his mentor Prof Ango Abdullahi.

Others who are masterminds of the unprovoked wicked and unjust plot include Dr Junaid Mohammed, Governor Rabiu Kwankwanso, Governor Aliyu Wammako, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwaal, Mallam Nasir El Rufai, Prof Attahiru Jega, Prof Ango Abdullahi, Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, Mallam Shehu Sani, Alhaji Lawal Kaita, Senator Bukola Saraki and many others.

Update: Further investigations have revealed the involvement of Governor Sule Lamido in the ASUU strike plot. In fact, it was Governor Sule Lamido that recruited the sacked former Minister of Education Prof/Mrs Ruqayat Rufai into the plot

The outsiders recruited into the plot who also provided funding include Bola Tinubu, Governors Rauf Aregbesola, Babatunde Fashola, Rotimi Amaechi, Adams Oshiomhole, Rochas Okorocha, and many others.

Those whose names are not mentioned here should not think that they have escaped discovery. All those involved in the plot are well known and documented.

6. Why did they not hold the ASUU executive meeting in Abuja or any other neutral place? Why hold the meeting in Kano?

ANSWER:

The meeting needs to hold in a place where the die-hard Northern Muslim Hausa-Fulani who set up the plot can exert maximum influence on the final outcome of the meeting and Kano is indeed the “right” place.

Before now I would have attacked you as a sympathizer of ASUU and somebody in the system, but with the current development your assertions is not far from the truth. Ranks within the ASUU are suppose to review this strike and put an end to it. Everybody is aware that GEJ held meeting with ASUU and had an agreement with him. Being the first time a sitting president will make such move, they would have respect the office and to call of the strike. Then if at the long run the president did not keep to his promises they can cry out, give 30days ultimate with massive public awareness then go on strike with the backing of the sympathy of most Nigerians. THE FACT IS THAT ASUU CAN NOT FIGHT THE ISSUE OF ADEQUATE FUNDING OF THE EDUCATION SECTOR ALONE AND WIN. It will take the the combined efforts of all stake holders in the education sector: NUT, ASUP, ASUU, NANS, PTA, SANU, NASU Nadal every other unions related to education at all levels. ASUU should just make do with whatever they have been able to get from the strike I.e earned allowances.
