This is incredible, from ASUU strike being called off to NMA strike kicking off, from NMA to another, i'm sure of that. Something is wrong! It's obvious there's a connection. There's no one Nigeria. But another question is, "why is all these happening in GEJ adminstration?" NMA's main priority is to save lives, if they engage into the evil of Nigeria politicies and some of the frauds, bribes, they do to lunder resources that should be for all Nigerians then innocent lives they should have saved will be lost. And God will not forgive them for than, because is God who made them doctors(live savers). "Don't follow the crowd be yourselves because everyone will be judged one by one not in group". God help us, Nigeria.

What was the issue that led to the recent us govt shutdown? I dont have a private clinic and there are many like me so what is this issue about private clinics? Seriously I wonder why doctors are always on strike.thought they took an oath to save lives, and now they are so much in love with money,if u fall in this category then you are in the wrong profession. They are paid well so why always crying for increase in their salary. What then happens to other members of the health team that are neglected.Selfish people

dr_joshua2000: MBBS has always been equivalant to PHD. That's why MBBS start from level 12 in civil service. Before throwing insults read about university degrees in wikipaedia its clearly stated there, @ least for knowledge sake.
when will u start getting brain? How did you graduate from medical school?? Shame on your school, all these state medical schools should be closed!

Re: Medical Doctors Begin Nationwide Strike Wednesday by Nobody: 7:23am On Dec 18, 2013
revolt: truth be told, these ASUU nma etc are greedy people.
if their strike would affect, the aristocrats, I'd understand...
now these doctors have private hospitals,(which is the sole reason our medical sector is camatose ), they'd prefer to nurture these capitalist ventures to the detriment of the govt hospitals. I've read somewhere that not everybody with good grades in US , can study medicine, Cos they go through a series of psychological tests, to know if they're psychological built for medical profession. medicine isn't capitalism or profit making, it's philanthropy. irrespective of the fact that renumeration could Foster motivation, this discipline isn't a profit venture, same with education.
it's immoral and irresponsible for doctors to say they're not working Cos they want a raise. so let the people die.
so in a conflict situation, these guys can't operate, ie war or crises, they'd probably be asking for raise then.

I've come to realise why the blackman never invents or improves on anything, his values are warped.
These doctors even with their good paypackages hardly research or improve in medical practices, (if not explain to me why people travel to poor India to get better services @ far Cheaper rates). All they want is money, money.

Beastly human beings

Sorry, but your thought is warped! Firstly, what is the percentage of doctors with private hospitals compared to those who don't have? Few. Doctors are not just fighting for personal gain, they are fighting for you and I, they want improvement in the government hospitals.

I don't know about Lagos state, but here in ibadan, government hospitals are not well funded. You'll even get sick(er) seeing the environment. If you need to see an opthamologist in ibadan, you have to go to UCH, or a private eye clinic which many people can't afford! What is the capacity of UCH? How many patients can they take? A single doctor in government hospital is doing the work of at least 4 doctors. More doctors are needed, state of the art equipments needed and the hospitals need to be renovated!

People don't go to india for medical treatments because Naija doctors are not knowledgeable; they go because of lack of equipments. It is in Nigeria that you see heavily pregnant women rushed into a diagnostics center from a government hospital for an ultra sound scan!

Besides, talking about remuneration, compared to what doctors elsewhere are paid, Nigerian doctors are earning pea nuts. The economic situation in Nigeria now will not allow doctors to wait for their heavenly rewards, they need it here on earth.

so your only solution to these issues Is the death and suffering of the poor masses. As for remuneration, I hope you know nigerian doctors earn more than Indian docs. if you can shutdown the system, then police and security agency should close office. they are the most unjustly treated humans in Nigeria.

onomeasike: Unlike ASUU members who don't have their own private universities, the doctors have their own private hospitals that they will divert all their patients to and they start making money especially patients that can afford their private fees. Then when strike is called off, they claim to have been on strike!! They better stop deluding themselves by comparing themselves to Phd holders lecturers. There is difference between capital V and cowleg.

allycat: I have a solution for this, sack all Nigerian doctors from government hospitals and employ Indian or Egyptian doctors and nurses or better still mandate nurses and pharmacist and lab technicians NOT LAB TECHNICIAN BUT MEDICAL LAB SCIENTIST, PLS KNOW THAT THEY AREN'T THE SAME! OLODO!! to take over patient care. After all these people are all humanitarian and will give you free service and the highest quality with substandard equipment unlike we stupid Nigerian doctors. Yes I oh am one of the stupid, useless Nigerian trained doctors and I was sacked by Lagos state 2 years ago so all these kill doctor comments aren't new to me.
Re: Medical Doctors Begin Nationwide Strike Wednesday by Mbatagr82(m): 11:40pm On Dec 19, 2013
There is no basis for this so called NMA strike at all.It is even an illegal strike because NMA is not a union but an association.Constitutionally, it is only registered trade union like JOHESU that can go on strike. This so called strike is born out of greed, envy and rebellion. When JOHESU went on strike it was this same NMA through Osahon that condemned it,calling it wickedness. So why does the so called patient lover suddenly wants patients TO GO AND DIE? They use inadequate health facility as a cover up, whose fault is it? The poor state of Nigerian health system today is as a result the incompetent administrators we have in hospitals and health ministry. If NMA claims it is fighting for our health sector, why did they pull out from JOHESU which is supposed to be a union for all health proffessionals. This NMA's selfishness is tarnishing the image of the noble proffession.Only God can save this country from the NIGERIAN MASSACRE ASSOCIATION.pls if you are a doc, dont be among them!!

Let truth be told.yes our health system is crap but Is that realy wat NMA is fighting for? A house officer is equivalent to a level 10 in civil Service and is paid upto 180 thousand naira,a resident doctor earns between 200 to 300 thousand and a consultant earns more than 500 thousand. It takes 4-6 years on the average to bcome a consultant after graduating and there are some Consultants that earn as high as 800thousand to 1million. Physicians earn relatively better than any other person in this country on the average, despite the economic hardship. Therefore calling for a raise in earning is just outrageous. A house officer(who is under training) earns twice the earnings of a lab scientist(a full time staff). NMA is just not being sincere if their strike action is based solely on the state of our delapitating hospitals,I would have understood but requesting for a raise in earning?! That's too selfish of them and please consultancy is not for doctors alone in europe and the USA, there are consultant Nurses and pharmacists. The society is now recognising the vital roles of other health profesionals and until the NMA drops its egoistic attitude and partner with other stakeholders of the health sector, the sector will remain in shambles. May God Bless Nigeria.

After reading arguments and counter arguments about the strike here,i searched online to know the reason for the strike and i was shocked that these people are actually fighting for more money while also competing with other health workers read http://premiumtimesng.com/news/151637-nigerian-doctors-vow-commence-nationwide-strike-wednesday.html .

Former labour leader and Edo state governor really confirmed the popular opinion that medical doctors are on strike to enrich their pocket read http://pmnewsnigeria.com/2013/12/19/no-work-no-pay-oshiomhole-tells-striking-doctors/ . So NMA has been lying to the public about the real cause of the strike,we're in big trouble in this country o.

My submission is that let government privatize the health sector.

Typical. after spewing all these lies and untruths you end with calling "God".

its either you are massively ignorant or just a pathological liar. Because I wonder how anyone who claims to have knowledge of the system will spill out such ignorance.

That is the standard pay for physicians in public hospitals stop deceiving yourself that article is very well correct it is crystal clear or are you denying the fact that a consultant earns above 500,000 or that a registrar earns above 200,000. Its pointless arguing with you anyway you must be one of those egocentric NMA members refusing to harken to good reason and blinded by greed. Everything I have posted is the fact. I have my sources but ofcourse any point raised will be false to you. All you want is money and pride, typical of the NMA. A salary raise of 1million per month will still not be enough for you guys afterall you still have other health workers to contend with. Let's watch as the drama unfolds.
