op is confusing success with Greatness you can be successful in your profession but not necessarily great another way of looking at greatness is when you the best in what makes you happy when you put your talent into use irrespective of where ever u find yourself....be that as it may jayjay is a great player and one of the best in his days |

A midfielder who score 87 goals in over 450 app is overhypped? A player who won Uefa Itertoto cup and six other minor league trophies is overhyped? A player who won BBC player of d year 2 consecutive times is overhyped? A Nigerian player who won English PL goal of the month and player of the month is overhyped? A player who won Nigeria NFF player of the year 6 times is overhyped? A player listed on Pele's FIFA 125 greatest players of all time is overhyped? A player described by Ronaldinho as his master in trick n dribbling football is overhyped? One of d few Nigerians, if not d only one who captained an English PL club for over 3yrs is overhyped? A winner of Nations cup is overhyped? Op, you are an unrepentant phool. You think football is playd by mouth and on d pages of nairaland and newspaper. toecyne: 2 Likes |

ShakurM: That is exactly my point, how many central midfielders currently in Madrid are as gifted as he is. None. Things he did at Bolton were exceptional but ifhe did them at Madrid, in an el classic match, he would be the most expensive player in the world and will win player of the world for five years straight. My point is that okocha had no such ambition early in his career. If he had he would have strolled into any top club in the world. |

May be the Op mean another overhyped which is contrary to the overhype l know Op do you think if Okocha was to play football today he will not be in the class or even greater than your so called todays great players? Pls op l would assume you go back to you-tube and watch again okochas wonderful dribbllings/passing and even goals Okocha remains nigerians ever greatest player even though l was still a kid then l have watched some of his games in you-tube and all l could say is that what says about him is nothing but the truth,he is indeed a great and unlucky player nigeria has produced |

Hmmm. This OP i hope say bad belle no go kill una o. Okocha remains a football great to many of us. We still long for those days when he gave us lots of happy moments. If Mikelus Obilus was half as good , Nigerian football wont be in the mess it is in today. |

Okocha was at a time the most expensive African football player. Do you place a high tag on an overrated player? I guess most of those commenting negatively did not see him play at his prime. |
Re: Okocha Annoying Hype by dabossman(m): 5:29pm On Oct 19, 2014 |
Icecomrade: Okocha won the BBC African footballer of the year twice but somehow Caf ignored him twice, even when he wa adjudged to be the front runner. The most glaring injustice was 1998, when he came 2nd behind Mustapha Hadji, even when he was a stand out perform at France 98 and became the most expensive African player when he was signed by PSG after the World Cup. I'd say he was just unlucky. |

jay jay is a football junky, he is addicted to playing football, he loves playing, it makes him really happy. if you check his game play especially when he misses possible goals, she smiles or laughs, it shows he just loves ball on his feet. so he never had no time for football politics, that top club or that top club, he goes/went to clubs where he could play 24/7. that dude did full career football with no or little recorded injuries. e easy? i don't like football that much, sport is boring to me, jay jay made me look football, after he retired, i just see nigerian/african score board just to be proud of myself. 1 Like |

clevadani: Can you explain why he lost to Mustapha Hadji in 1998, even after a stellar performance at the World Cup and becoming the most expensive African player in the same year? Kanu won in 1999 simply for joining Arsenal in the summer and having a few good games, yet Okocha was ignored the year before for Mustapha Hadji. Please explain. And by the way, the same PSG that Ibrahimovic and many other top players today play for signed Okocha and made him the most expensive player. This same club had Ronaldinho in their team. In those days the EPL wasn't so popular as it is today. The French league was more popular, along with Italy and Spain. |

otipoju: Shut the fck up and get lost. You're stup.id with nothing upstairs. I bet it is your ethnic chauvinism that is worrying you. Nasty wastrel. Greatness is synonymous with exploits. What are okochas exploits that make him rank among the greatest. Give me hard facts. Dummy, have you heard of Alfredo di Stefano? He never played a single World Cup, but is rated among the greatest ever footballers in history. Have you heard of Boniek? Have you heard of Socrates? Zico? Eusebio? These were world class players. Top of the class. Yet they 'won nothing' as individual players. I know you are a DUNCE so it's no point carrying on with you. Just wasting my time. Is it not the same Pele that believes that neymar is better than messi and predicted that an african country will win the world cup before 2010.lets leave what Pele thinks and give me concrete arguments Neymar has not really been given his chance to shine yet, and Pele was right to be optimistic about African soccer back in the mid 90s. He doesn't think black is inferior unlike a dunce like you. He didn't bank on inferiority complex ridden idiotts like you who lose a game before you even enter the pitch because you hear names like 'Messi'. For crying out loud we are talking about a player who had the skills and precensce of mind to humiliate Oliver khan and about four defenders in the goal area before deciding to score even though he had the chance. Entertaining but not purposeful. You are beyond STUPI.D. If Messi or C. Ronaldo had scored that goal you would be all praises for them, IDIATT slave. It was late in his career that his game evolved and he was phenomenal at Bolton and by that time age had caught up with him. Olodo, it was actually at FENEBAHCE that he was in his prime, where he scored 32 goals in 60 games - a stunning output for a midfielder. By right he should have been snapped up by Madrid, Barca, AC Milan etc straight from Fenebahce. Afterall those clubs at the time had very average guys in midfield like Nunez, Soldado, Alex Perez, Luis Garcia, Luis Enqrique etc. Are you trying to tell us those guys were better than Jay Jay Okocha? Or even close to Okocha? Idiatttt~~~ 2 Likes |

sukkot: Very correct. The most exciting player to watch out of Africa, but definitely not The most effective, and definitely not the most exciting to watch in the rest of the world. Ronaldinho, messi, ronaldo, Roberto baggio, rivaldo, etc are also exciting to watch but they surpass Okocha because they are also effective. 1 Like |

toecyne: u dey craze. okocha was a COMPLETE footballer who could think on his feet anyday anytime. if you had said Kanu Nwankwo I wouldn't have argued despite his winning african footballer of the year twice. I think he's a tad overrated but OKocha?? again, u dey craze |
Re: Okocha Annoying Hype by Nobody: 5:57pm On Oct 19, 2014 |
abatically: Okocha was HIGHLY EFFECTIVE. 32 goals in 60 games for Fenebahche. What other effectiveness do you want? Some of you we know only began watching football with EPL, which is why you are CLUELESS about how EFFECTIVE Okocha was in his prime. He was VERY SKILFULL AND VERY EFFECTIVE. When he moved to PSG, his coach, an absolute dunce, played him in all sorts of funny positions eg on the wings. This led to a drop in his goal tally. The minute he left for Bolton and was returned to his traditional attacking midfield role, the goals began flowing again. So Okocha was VERY EFFECTIVE. |

MrPresident1: Dont be deceived bro. As a Nigerian it is normal to add sentiments, but let's be real, Jay jay was great but did he really do his job well in the midfield? Primarily the first thing that comes to Jay jay's mind when he gets the ball is 'SHOW OFF'. Passing the ball is secondary. As a deep playmaker, sometimes his teammates make the run but Okocha was busy showing off his skills. Yes he got amazing skills no doubt, but so was denilson of Brazil. This is the main reason big clubs never came for him, they saw him as an unserious player, not very effective . Very good to get the crowd excited, but terrible in helping his team get a result. 1 Like |
