So, because Jay Jay did not have mass of laurels to his profile he's not a great player? That's how some ppl are saying maradona did not win UCL, so because of that he is not a great player? I'm yet to see a player that is alpha and omega of a team. How many trophy has messi won? it is barca that won trophy not messi. Did drogba win UCL? No, it was Chelsea football club that has UCL trophy in their cabinet not in drogba house.
Aren't these ppl that say Neymar would not be regarded as a great player if he refuses to come to Europe? does this mean if neymar retires in brazilla league is not a great player?
Mikel won FA cups, Carlin cups, premiership and champion league cup with Chelsea football club while Okocha won nothing, are we saying Mikel is better and a greater player than Okocha ?(as a number 10 player).
Pls don't attribute team success or narrow team achievement to a man, it is collective work from goal keeper, defenders, midfielders, wingers and strikers. But It is the system that is so faulty, that they rate only strikers as the best player.

Don't mind these brainless idiotts, talking rubbish about ''what has he won etc etc''. As if it is one single player that wins a club trophies. So skill-less Beckham (anywhere belleh face) must be better than Okocha since he won champions league and EPL titles with Man u and Madrid? Damn illiterates!!!

Dummy, have you heard of Alfredo di Stefano? He never played a single World Cup, but is rated among the greatest ever footballers in history. Have you heard of Boniek? Have you heard of Socrates? Zico? Eusebio? These were world class players. Top of the class. Yet they 'won nothing' as individual players. I know you are a DUNCE so it's no point carrying on with you. Just wasting my time.

Neymar has not really been given his chance to shine yet, and Pele was right to be optimistic about African soccer back in the mid 90s. He doesn't think black is inferior unlike a dunce like you. He didn't bank on inferiority complex ridden idiotts like you who lose a game before you even enter the pitch because you hear names like 'Messi'.

You are beyond STUPI.D. If Messi or C. Ronaldo had scored that goal you would be all praises for them, IDIATT slave.

Olodo, it was actually at FENEBAHCE that he was in his prime, where he scored 32 goals in 60 games - a stunning output for a midfielder. By right he should have been snapped up by Madrid, Barca, AC Milan etc straight from Fenebahce. Afterall those clubs at the time had very average guys in midfield like Nunez, Soldado, Alex Perez, Luis Garcia, Luis Enqrique etc. Are you trying to tell us those guys were better than Jay Jay Okocha? Or even close to Okocha? Idiatttt~~~

Soldado played as a striker.

He played him out of position because he prioritised Ronaldinho, Okocha complained about his treatment and also about the fact that bigger teams didn’t want an African man as their main player. This is common knowledge; I have no idea what this guy is arguing about.

Re: Okocha Annoying Hype by edi287: 6:15pm On Oct 19, 2014
Okocha was definitely talented; just too inconsistent to be truly labelled world class.

His stint at psg didn't really help too. I remember he was once linked with chelsea and man u, so for all we know maybe he didn't want to play for a big club.

Okocha was HIGHLY EFFECTIVE. 32 goals in 60 games for Fenebahche. What other effectiveness do you want? Some of you we know only began watching football with EPL, which is why you are CLUELESS about how EFFECTIVE Okocha was in his prime. He was VERY SKILFULL AND VERY EFFECTIVE. When he moved to PSG, his coach, an absolute dunce, played him in all sorts of funny positions eg on the wings. This led to a drop in his goal tally. The minute he left for Bolton and was returned to his traditional attacking midfield role, the goals began flowing again. So Okocha was VERY EFFECTIVE.

Fernabache? Is that a club in Turkey? Anyway I dont understand what u meant by the goals started flowing when he went to BOLTON. He scored 14 goals in 106 appearances for BOLTON. I know his job was not to score goals but how many did he really create? And 14 goals in 106 appearances is not good enough for an attacking midfielder. Also don't forget Okocha played some of the best games of his career when he joined bolton, he became more serious but then it was too late as age had caught up with him. If he had been more serious in his youth he would definitely have played for the bigger clubs.

Nevertheless I prefer Kanu Nwankwo... His skills and mien on the ball were simply sublime. Unforced, Unhurried, and magical... Kanu did things no other player could imagine.

Even with that I'll rate Okocha higher than Kanu. Yekini was even more of a complete footballer than Kanu , I can say Kanu is the overhyped footballer here.

This is what the PSG Wikipedia page has to say about Okocha. See what it says about his partnership with Ronaldinho. Funny thing is some peeps here say no big club came for Jay Jay. What was PSG at the time? A small club? At that time the EPL wasn't this popular and didn't attract the biggest players in Europe. And the Champions League only had 24 teams in the group stage.

Paris Saint-Germain splashed $24 million on Jay-Jay Okocha in 1998, making him the most expensive African player at the time.[7] "El Puma" Nicolas Anelka's ?33.5 million deal from Real Madrid became PSG's highest signing.[8] Ronaldinho became the star of the capital club and a fan favourite. He formed a lethal partnership up front with Jay-Jay Okocha, but the magical duo couldn't achieve any major titles. Okocha left PSG on a free transfer and joined Bolton Wanderers.

Oga we go find muffler for you. You are just ranting like a toddler that they collected his feeding bottle. The sad thing is that you are just contradicting urself

Okocha is Igbo and so is kanu nwankwo who is my most loved footballer. I love him more than Ronaldinho who is the best player i have ever seen.

So where does ethnic chauvinism come in.As for me
I am mixed. Yoruba father , Deltan mother, white girlfriend, and God willing will marry a ghanian. I have an ugandan cousin, Igbo in laws.

When I look at a person I look into your soul and not your skin. I am the one saying that the color of your skin does not determine your greatness in football where as you insist that the system was biased against okocha because he was not European yet you say that I feel racially inferior.

You are very confused and not worth the hassle. I will leave you to wallow in your misery.

Load of tosh. How can you say he only 'got serious' when he played at Bolton with a low goal tally, but when he was at Fenebahche where he scored a goal every two games, he was not serious? That makes zero sense. As for saying he played some of his best games for Bolton, how many of his Fenebahce or Eintracht Frankfurt games did you watch? This is why I say some of you only know a player if he plays in EPL or La Liga. That is why you think nothing happened in Jay Jay's career until he went to Bolton. In any case, it's kinda hard for an attacking midfielder of whatever quality to be banging in goals playing for a lowly club like Bolton in the EPL!! If he was playing alongside players of his quality he would have scored and created far more goals.

I dont know what Op is thinking to such an extent to belittle such a wonderful player. So Okocha is not a great player ba? Smh

sentimental views for one of our top ten best ever footballers. If a brazilian can say that about okocha. And they rarely talk about Mikel...... (shrugs) the handwriting on the hall says otherwise. Even if he was adjudged nt great. Be patriotic for ones(imagine an englishman saying a footballer in his country isnt great, or any other national for that matter) you've lost before you started this post.

Ask 10 footballers in Nigeria and then watch as you hide your face in shame/ speechless. (hesitates to continue)
