The Federal Government has approved $11 million personal travelling allowance at a subsidized exchange rate of N160 per dollar for 13,800 persons participating in this year’s Christian pilgrimage.

This was disclosed by the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, yesterday, in a circular entitled Year 2015 Christian Pilgrima-ge: Purchase of Pilgrims Travelling Allowance.

The circular was signed by Mrs. O. L. Ahuchogu on behalf of the Director, Trade and Exchange Department, CBN.

It said: “The Federal Government has approved the purchase of a maximum of $1000 at concessionary rate of N160 to the dollar by each intending pilgrim as personal travel allowance.

“Consequently each pilgrim travelling to Israel is entitled to maximum of $750, while those going to Israel/Rome or Greece are entitled to a maximum of $1000.”

See as money dey waste!!

This shit should be moved to the private sector please! $11m would do a lot for common Nigerians... I mean it'll be better sef if the government just goes out on the street and throws all of it in the Air!

For the record, I DON'T SUPPORT GOVERNMENT SPONSORSHIP OF HAJJ AND CHRISTIAN PILGRIMAGE!

I'm yet to see the wisdom in sending folks to go and stone the devil or see River Jordan every year.

As a Nigerian Christian I have NO connection whatsoever with Israel, neither do I need to see River Jordan, Mount Carmel, Mount Olives, or Lot's wife who was turned into salt. Christ never sanctioned it; commonsense can't fathom it's absurdity.

Why are the poorest nations the most wasteful and senseless?

Oh Karl Marx, long may you live. SMH!

There has always been debate as to whether the Christian pilgrimage has a biblical basis!
More often the answer has always been a capital NO!!!
I wonder why the government will spend so much on people going for sight seeing or rather tourism.
The Muslims on the other hand have successfully gotten a public holiday to celebrate their Prophet's birth ( which has no basis in their religion too)
Until we stop the act of "copy catting"..... All progress might just be infinitesimal!

$11m ? So outrageous, this money can solve a lot . I believe FG/SG/LG should stop sponsoring people on holy pilgrimage. Any one willing to embark on such journey should sponsor him/herself not on government expenses.

$11m to be wasted on pilgrimage
FG should not go the way of the previous government pls.
There is need for us to be prudent in our spending.
Whoever wants to go for pilgrimage should go on his own, not sponsored with our money.

How do you even explain this to God reasonably where many workers are being owed salaries across Nigeria, yet the FG is spending this huge sum of $11m for this?
Truly, Naija's problem is in her foolishness. embarassed
