Every year Nigerian Christians go to Jerusalem for excursion and their Muslim counterparts go to Mecca to stone the devil, and of course govt budgets millions for each travel. Sadly, they come back not as changed and Godly people but with souvenirs. Those who attended still cheap Nigerians, steal from govt, bribe others, rape, kill and do many unthinkable things. I think its high time we stoped wasting our money on these travels. Nigeria has a lot of development needs...lets use the money to develop our country. Any rich man who can afford to go on pilgrim should fund his/her travel. We need real #change.

There has always been debate as to whether the Christian pilgrimage has a biblical basis!
More often the answer has always been a capital NO!!!
I wonder why the government will spend so much on people going for sight seeing or rather tourism.
The Muslims on the other hand have successfully gotten a public holiday to celebrate their Prophet's birth ( which has no basis in their religion too)
Until we stop the act of "copy catting"..... All progress might just be infinitesimal!

Why is that everyone on the front page is an illiterate. Yes Illiterate.

$11million dollars is not coming out og the governments pocket but the pockets of the individuals travelling. Only that they have the opportunity to buy up to a total of $11million dollars at N160 each at $1000 maximum per person.

So no one on the front page is educated enough to read and comprehend. No wonder they say our graduates are half baked.

See as money dey waste!!

This shit should be moved to the private sector please! $11m would do a lot for common Nigerians... I mean it'll be better sef if the government just goes out on the street and throws all of it in the Air!
Do you only read but don't understand the message? The money wasn't for free, The pilgrimage have to change the money but at low rate of #160 to $1 that's to help them the way they did for Muslims too.

My friend you hae said it right. Christian pilgrimage has no biblical basis just as Muslims celebrating Prophet birthday has no Islamic basis.

I do not understand this news. The FG announced before the Hajj they will no longer sponsor pilgrimages and to the best of my knowledge it was followed to the letter. The only concession was lower exchange rates which also make part of this report. So how does the government concede N160 to a dollar and still commit $11M to the exercise? Is this not one of the bad reporting we continue to suffer in the hands of media houses?

I'm yet to see the wisdom in sending folks to go and stone the devil or see River Jordan every year.

As a Nigerian Christian I have NO connection whatsoever with Israel, neither do I need to see River Jordan, Mount Carmel, Mount Olives, or Lot's wife who was turned into salt. Christ never sanctioned it; commonsense can't fathom it's absurdity.

my questions are 1. How was give to Muslim pilgrims to go n stone D devil. 2. Do Muslims have any connections with saudi arabia?

How has spending money for people going for pilgrims help improve the Nigerian economy? What waste so much money for nothing... I'm still expecting a lot of change...
Going for pilgrims is a personal thing with your God not an national thing, so after spending for the Muslims, Christian to the Holy Land who would spend for the traditional worshipers and to where??

The Federal Government has approved $11 million personal travelling allowance at a subsidized exchange rate of N160 per dollar for 13,800 persons participating in this year’s Christian pilgrimage.

This was disclosed by the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, yesterday, in a circular entitled Year 2015 Christian Pilgrima-ge: Purchase of Pilgrims Travelling Allowance.

The circular was signed by Mrs. O. L. Ahuchogu on behalf of the Director, Trade and Exchange Department, CBN.

It said: “The Federal Government has approved the purchase of a maximum of $1000 at concessionary rate of N160 to the dollar by each intending pilgrim as personal travel allowance.

“Consequently each pilgrim travelling to Israel is entitled to maximum of $750, while those going to Israel/Rome or Greece are entitled to a maximum of $1000.”

As per Christianity, travelling to Jerusalem has NO biblical basis. It's a huge scam. Organised religious scam.

In nigeria we have freedom and right to Religion and the government have decided to observe them by sponsoring it... Going to pilgrims can't stop us to be a better country, the truth is dat our leaders are Dubious. There are things that the Government has failed to do. Such as, Steady Power supply, Industrialisation, good roads, price regulation, water supply, low import tariffs, affordable housing Units for Low and middle class. All this will create employment, Above all cutting down the rights and Immunity of our politicians/leaders.

Fg should stop sponsoring all the pilgrimage trips

its total waste of funds

I agree with you 100%.

Religion is a personal/private thing to an individual and should be treated as such. No need wasting public funds to sponsor pilgrimage to either Jerusalem or Saudi Arabia.

Such money could have be invested wisely on improving the economy for the general welbeing of the masses. Going to Saudi Arabia or Jerusalem is not a guaranteed ticket to salvation.

Draining of resources continue by the well to do,in the name of prigrim, while the poor children go to bed without food, some has no portable water to drink, then tell me how our good Lord will answer their prayer, foolish ideas brought by the military, while our express highways where constructed leaving the centers to be turned into dustbins and latrines thereby making many cities to look dirty and unhealthy, common sense to use such lslam/Christian prigrims funds to start tiding up some of those highways by removing diets and joining it up with asphalt, they can't.My God is every where and can answer prayer from any angle of the earth.
