This is totally unacceptable , how can we be using state fund to pay for people's spiritual belief system ? This is not good for the economy of this nation and I ask again ; where is the change from the old way?

I think what this says is that federal government is giving a concessionary rate of # 160/$1 which means that the pilgrims will fund the purchase at that rate and not that government will fund the $11m

There is no justification for subsidizing any religion. This move probably aimed at appeasing Christians is dead on arrival because pilgrimage is not even a traditional christian concept. Nigerians, not Christians, should be appeased through fairness and justice. Government should have no business with religious affairs.

I am amazed at the comments being made over this. Did any of you bother to read the article. It said FG has approved 11m personal traveling allowance. This means that intending pilgrims can buy the required forex up to the max of $1,000 at the subsidised rate of N160, and not that FG is giving away the money to pilgrims!

i do not believe $11m wl b given to pilgrims. its just funds set aside for them to access. instead of d current exchange rate of about 205 naira, they wl get at 160 naira. the difference is far less than 11 million dollars for crying out loud guys.

i do not support use of state funds for religion as we dont have any official religion. however, i see PMB playing to d gallery cos of misconceptns abt him. he stopped FG sponsorship of muslim pilgrims. nothing happened cos he is a muslim.

Seriously, it's unfortunate. A Nation where poverty walks like a monster; no power, no water, no decent amenities, educationally backward.

I believe the mental state of most Nigerians is fundamentally flawed.

Jesus, the Son of God, said in John 4:23: the hour cometh when men shall no longer worship God on this mountain... nor in Jerusalem. They that worship the Lord must do so in truth and in spirit. Bottom line: men do not need to go on pilgrimage to Jerusalem to worship God. Every born-again Christian knows this truth. So why is the Federal Government wasting huge public finds subsidizing pilgrimages? If citizens want to go on holiday to Jerusalem or Mecca, they are free to do so... but they should not expect one dime of subsidy.

Common sense is scarce in Nigeria.

Approve 11m dollars at a rate of 160 naira to a dollar. Means the 13500 pilgrims will have to purchase dollars at 160 naira to a dollar and the maximum each one could buy has been stipulated there. Reading and digesting is the problem of nairaland. There is noting bad in government supporting his pilgrimage. Also its been approve by CBN because of the new foreign exchange policy which stipulates that dollar can be purchased through CBN now.

Liar, Certain christians invented the Jerusalem Pilgrimage because of their envy towards Islam in which hajj is a part and parcel of.
