@All,
The story behind 26 new channels on W2A:

3 February 2010
STN initiates the distribution services of the new multi channel platform over Africa.
Startimes DTV for Star Technology, China.

STN d.o.o are proud to annouce their new partnership with StarTimes and the successful launch of 17 new channels for Africian Digital (DTV) distribution over the W2A satellite, C band, situated at 10° East.

The C-band payload of 10 transponders provides pan-African coverage, extending to India and parts of Asia as well as Latin America, for broadband and telecommunications services.
STN's partnership with StarTimes is for the distribution of the channels including full monitoring and control of operations services.

STN provides reception of the signals from various satellites and repackages them utilizing the latest DVB-S2/MPEG-4 AVC digital technology.

Nash-fta, to add to the info u provided on d issue of W2a providers in Africa. In Nigeria, lagos to b precise d dvb-t box by star tv ltd is already wit some of us , hav assisted some of our members to get one. It is not officialy launched yet, but my contact person has been able to get me some. apart from d 17 channels u mentioned 23 additional wil b added in no time. d providers of this service wil charge 1k per month when it is officialy launched. If u hav srt 4910 put it on terrestrial mode then connect ur local antena to it then scan, all those w2a channels wil b yours 4 free. but for how long wil they remain free I can't tell. enjoy while it last.

obijack:

@George D,

Thanks for the advice and I think I will be better off someone more knowledgable assisting me.  Frankly, for almost 2 years that I have joined this forum, I have not been able to track W3a and what puts me off most was that the channels are all french. But now, I can even close my eyes and accurately guess where it is with my 2.4m  since I know  where to start tracking from.

@obijack,have you finally nail the w3a?i am surprise to hear that you have not been able to hit the green.do you know what?face your east,then your right hand is where the w3a is located,lift your reflector very high at 82' degree up with the freq of 12728v30000,do it slightly as a guru you are,i wanna see you hit green

@ zenus,
thanks

@ all,
after several battle over the years, i witnessed olason's and olofofo's nile installation project that was carried out two years ago, i started my own installation sometimes last year but stopped due to the mismanagement of funds by the contractor handling the project. Several panels were set up to look at the unruly behaviour of the contractor and he was found wanting. So the project was re-awarded to a trustworthy fellow, and funds were made available through private-public partnership. Within 4 weeks that the project was reawarded, the project is now a finished one.

In my next post i will be more detailed concerning how things went during the installation.

Re: Official Thread Of Free To Air Satellite Tv (part 4) by Nobody: 6:01pm On Mar 08, 2010
Many would have thought that the outcome of my revived project will go down the drain just as before, but now they will be surprise or better still disappointed.

My sincere gratitude first and fore most go to LIFE himself, the forces of nature, the dieities of FTA, badaru (the man that first thought me how to track nilesat signal), twinstaiye (moderator of this great thread) he has also been of immense help financially, his partnership with me result to about 20% of the project to be achieved, pitodenz (a great mentor to me), olason (the first nile project i witnessed was HIS), olofofo (the second nile project i witnessed), butoneday ( If I pray that surpass him in terms of FTA, that will be a curse i will be placing on my head), George_D (best contributor), Obnelly, Tox, Enigma, F_marshal, dejsam, zenus, and to all other guys i cant remember their names here, i say all of you thasnks in a million way.

Also this names are specially listed out here cos they are present on my installation date despite inviting all memebers on the FTA_hobbyst group page on facebook, and these are Adeexy and Segunfms, i say 3 GBOSAS for these peeps, they were with me from till evening.

I got the dish which is 2.4m in size at a location very close to the Lagos/Ogun border at Sango at the price of 25K, i paid a downpayment of 15k, and a balance of 10k later. With 3 days my dish was ready. I set out on sunday morning to go pick up my dish at around 8 am, knowing fully well of how Nigerian security agencies will try to make money out of someone cos of what you will be carrying on the road, I entered into my KHAKI (some knowing ones know what i meant by this), so on my way down to my location,we were questioned by FRSC but we scaled through, but later a police van stopped us along the way, the constable that came out on seeing my uniform asked 'OTONDO, u dey do escort for this people?' i answered that its my personal project, the guy turned back and gave a report to his OGAS in the van and they all left.
On getting home, adeexy was with me all through the journey from the dish fabricator site down to my location, later on segunfms came to join us, and work began. We lifted the dish to the pole and everything was mounted, so adeexy the master climbed the roof top and started tracking, tracked NSS7 for refernce, we got that at 97%, we turned over to nile but nothing came up at all not even a flash, and this went on for more than 2 hours. I later called badaru to give me the strongest TP to track with, he gave me the one for show cinema, we tried that but still no luck. So i thought to myself, that i should go up and replaced adeexy cos he was worn out, started tracking first, i got the same NSS7 at 97%, and after a little turning around, i got the nile signal GBAM!!!!!!, after about more than 4 hours of tracking. Immediately i got that everyone around was so full of joy, so adeexy marked the pole at that point the nile signal was gotten, so i handed over everything back to him. In summary we were able to get more than 150 stations at the worse time of nile signal which was about 2-4pm in the afternoon. But, stations like aljazeera +1 to +4 didnt come up, but i got 5 to 8, the 1-4 came up during the night till around dawn. The lnb i made use of was fuji, so later in the evening i called baba badaru about my findings, he said thats even too low for me to receive on 2.4m, that he'll like to come around to help me with some tweaking to achieve the best signal i could ever get on 2.4m, on hearing that i was overjoyed.

I guessed this is a full diary of what i did yesterday, the project is like a present to myself on my birthday.

I thank everyone on this forum, to those who have helped me one way or the other financially, i prayed the deities of FTA help them financially. to those who have supported me morally, the deities will also support you morally. To those who have assisted me in getting the best fishes, the deities will also reward you with the best fishes. And to those who still have the wish to install nile, i pray that the deities will help you accomplish your mission. For now i think i have reached my peak in terms of FTA dishes, but not in receivers. And to those who think they can match what butoneday did, i can boldly say thats a white elephant project or better still, building your castle in the air.

@OLASON, I have this DVD recorder i got from the UK that comes with an integrated dvb-T, freeview stuff, would it work for this w2a stuff. I posted about it earlier. The only thing is the recorder is not with me now, i thought it was good for nothing or than playing dvd's. If it would work let me recall it. What is the range of the service for now. is the service receivable in ogun state. i am migrating fully to the state soon.

@ Enitan,
Congratulations! We need more people like you in Africa – who can fold up their sleeves, put on ‘Khaki’ and ‘boots’, and get into attempting the impossible. I think that by working as a team, raising some funds and bringing our skills together, members of this forum will one day soon be able to assemble and launch an FTA satellite with 100 Ku-Band TPs! grin Keep discovering!

@ Enitan

Congrat for tracking nile on your first attemp. Before I come try to adjust the focal length very well. i.e either in or out. The problem with fibre dish is the adjustment of the focal length. Try to bring the hand in small or out and observe the results well.

@ All

To master tracking very well,u need a dish of your own. this should be atleast 1.8m so that you can try as many posititions as possible
