This is why the widespread use of pick-up trucks by all armies in africa, south-east asia and south-america is risky business.

You know well that Nigeria is not the second most powerful military in Africa.

Factors which makes Nigeria not to become the second most powerful military in Africa.

1. Budget
2. Large force which is poorly equipped
3. Low morale as a result of poor salaries and benefits. No soldier can risk to die if his family stand to gain nothing.
4. Limited firepower
5. Poor defence industry.

With all of the above un-addressed, Nigeria cannot claim to be the second most powerful military in Africa.

Factors which make South Africa to become the 5th most powerful military in Africa.

1. Budget spent mostly on soldiers fat monthly salary (Submarines purchased on credit with bank loans)
2. Large scale manpower shortage, the forces cannot handle modern equipment effectively (Only 6 qualified Gripen jet pilots to fly 26 Gripen jets)
3. Low fighting spirit and determination to sacrifice their lives in war due to fat monthly salary, they want to enjoy life with their family.
4. Limited firepower (Only 46 G6 Rhino artillery, only 25 missiles for 26 Gripen jets, only 17 Exocet missiles instead of the standard 32 missiles)
5. Poor independence of defense industry, DENEL weapons depend on European Jets, Ships, and Vehicles to launch its missiles and bombs.

With all the above not addressed, South Africa remains the 5th most powerful military in africa but sharing the same 5th position with Sudan, Uganda and Morocco.

Not criticising your Nigerian vehicle. But Leopard ACD wouldn't have survived this ambush, cause Mamadou's car was specifically targeted in the convoy. Hit by a rocket first then followed by automatic gun fire, the enemy clearly had intel about the colonel who didn't have a military escort in that notorious road during the attack. Other cars in the convoy took the injured to hospital by the time this video was shoot. His bodyguard survived though...............MRAPS armed is the answer.

Ethiopia, does not worry about other things such as education, infrastructure, Health, Social services, etc. They compromise large portion of their budget on military.

99% of the drones all over the world are not killer drones. Lol !!!

killer drones are only useful against the likes of terrorists and local rebels that have no anti-aircraft defenses. even boko haram will shoot down a killer drone if it flies low to attack them. Kenya will shoot down 100 killer drones if you try it on their army.

Ethiopia 'wastes' money on defense same way south africa wastes money on defense to the point of buying submarines with bank loan.

better go repay the debt before bank manager auctions your submarine in the world market due to loan repayment defaults. Lol !!!

South Africa never ran back home from CAR, it was a decision which was taken by an extraordinary summit of central African states (ECCAS) held at Chad that SA troops should be withdrawn from CAR. Our president was ready to reinfonce SA troops in CAR by deploying over 2000 soldiers. We will never run away, but we will fight your soldiers until they raise a white flag like what SELEKA has done.

now this is real comedy.

the Seleka that was said to have 'raised white flag in surrender' is the one ruling and controlling the land in C.A.R, while the South African army that claims to have won the battle is the one sleeping in Soweto township with their wives under a blanket at home !

Get your facts straight. The SANDF soldiers left the base after the battle not during the battle which would've meant running. The SANDF was positioning to strike moving equipment and company or more parabats to allow the CIC to have flexible options on whether to strike or withdraw but after pressure from shocked South Africans who didn't even know we had a training unit there plus ECCAS meeting,Zuma decided to withdraw sending more troops would've been interpreted as undermining the countries around CAR and ECCAS. Helmets and armed Gecko are not weapons. Nigeria left equipment too in Mali.

Spoke with many military analysts and spotters. They're all saying it is a Spanish rumour, cause Angola needs patrol vessels than a aircraft carrier. Like one man said "without vessels to protect it a South African submarine can sink it easily, without any difficulties".

i suspect the angola government may be doing its usual stuff...buy weapons they dont need, inflates the price, steal oil money in the deal.

That ranking is not based on fighting capabilities and what might happen if war broke out between countries on the list. It is based on troop numbers and equipment. Here are the few factors we should consider when ranking how strong a country is: 1.Technology 2. Politics 3. Defence industry 4. Economy 5. History(experience).

Ranking is based on equipment, manpower, war history/battlefield experience/combat records, and economy/finance.

Ethiopia is better than South Africa in all those points except economy/finance, but they have a big defence budget to focus on army and air force because they have no navy. South African navy had to borrow money from a bank to buy submarines, your navy alone is eating up your defence budget really bad.

that is where Ethiopia saves money and spends on its huge army with thousands of anti-tank guided missiles.

South Africa wont last long fighting Ethiopia, they will wipe out your armoured vehicles and surround your tiny army within some days.

the weak point of South African military is that your tiny, inexperienced, fat, over-paid, illiterate, and cowardly army that has never won any war

1. The US, UK and Russia pay fat salaries to their soldiers, so is there anything wrong with that. Nigeria is one of the countries which pay their soldiers meagre salaries with poor benefits.

2. South Africa has 8 Griffin Instructors and that does not mean their strength is 8, since we have many pilots who can fly and operate griffins.

3. Denel is the largest arms manufacturer on the continent. FACT!!! No arms industry in Naai-jeria can match it.

4. SA soldiers are trained well to operate Denel products.

Nigeria has old soviet era howitzer like the D-30 to count make up that 660 numbers, with a small number of modern 155mm howitzers and 120mm mortars(which is considered artillery by many). South Africa has a lot of howitzers in reserve like the Israeli G4 howitzer. T

he South African army had to replace many the barrels of the G5 after the cuito battle. Any 155mm howitzer that fires shells at a sustained rate in its maximum range will have barrels problems within 2 to 6 months.

listen dude, artillery gun barrel life span is not counted by months, it is counted by number of shells fired. many modern guns can fire 2,000 artillery shells before the barrel wears out for replacement.

Nigeria has 48 modern Bofors and 49 modern Palmaria, about 100 modern artillery guns, plus about 560 older guns, we have about 660 artillery guns.

South Africa has 75 modern G5 and 46 modern G6, but that is all, you have about 120 artillery guns.

In an artillery exchange of fire, Nigeria has 5 times the firepower of South Africa, and artillery battle is all about firepower, out-gun your enemy.

Nigeria will fire so much that South Africa will run, because we can do shower shells on you like say na rain dey fall o !

1. Equipment what equipment will Ethiopia field that SA won't have an answer to?...Our engineers from the defence industry can be sent the front lines? 2. Manpower needs vehicles and helicopters to move soldiers around the battlefield. How well are Ethiopian vehicles and helicopter serviced. 3. Combat experienced of Ethiopia? Tiny nation of Eritrea always proved to be too much for them. 4. Defence budget: If your soldiers are not paid morale will be low and ill discipline will find it place ..........If any country threatened to invade SA. Seen war is inevitable the SA government will channel funds to the SANDF. 1.A Massive recruitment will begin 2. Defence projects will deliver weapons quick as funds will be available. 3. Offensive weapons for the Gripens and Frigates will be delivered from torpedoes to cruise missiles 4. Within a month or 2 of declaring a war against SA,SANDF vehicles(MRAPS,armoured fighting vehicles and IFV) will number around 5000.........From the reserves equipment like G4 155mm howitzer will be back in service........South African can stop any army in sub-Saharan Africa and keep it busy for 6 months. To bring game changing weapons like the G7 howitzer to battlefield in numbers.....If that failed illegal chemical weapons and cluster munitions will be used.

It depends on what range you're firing those shells. Firing at maximum range will cause any howitzer to require constant maintains(barrels changes and stuff). 120mm are classified as artillery not an infantry weapon, and you didn't add that the SA artillery. The SANDF also has the G7 105mm prototype in unknown numbers. ........1. Regarding your artillery the only threat would be the Bofors. The Palmaria can't exchange shells with the G6,which beats the Palmaria in a wider range. 2. Is target fixation which army has better targeting systems. Nigeria doesn't have an answer to the Vulture drone, the only drones Nigeria have need airstrips which in Africa are hard to defend. Also Nigeria doesn't an answer to the Ratel EAOs. 3. Air power or superiority in Libya we saw images of destroyed palmaria howitzers. Without any advanced jet to keep any fighters away from your positions your army will be fried. 4.Constant supplies of advanced shells like Denel's V-LAP round....................Nigerian artillery is obsolete excluding the bofors.

nigeria does not even need ship to ship combat in ivory coast. our air power is more than enough. your submarines will run out of fuel if they submerge for more than 48 hours, and your naval base for refueling is 5,000 km away at home.

diesel submarines like yours have very very short range when submerged, and when they surface or snorkel, enemy aircraft will attack and destroy them very easily because submarines have no defence against enemy aircraft.

west africa is too far away from southern africa, your submarine is a ZERO threat to nigeria. sorry o !
