Be real, they are looking for money and yet they are wealthy?
i expected more than that from u, if you stop adding to your wealth what happens? the wealth in question, how it's gotten isn't too hard to know

What are you on about David? How is he helping anyone perpetrate fraud? He said he visited Yar'adua and refused to say more - what have the comments made by the others who allegedly visited him done?

You guys and emotional responses - he has done NOTHING wrong by refusing to divulge matters he regards as personal. He is not a government official, neither is he answerable to anyone if he paid Yar'adua a visit in a personal capacity.

What is Debosky himself on about? If Oyedepo where a politician no one would care about his comments. But this is a man who has literarily built an empire on the name of Jesus Christ. Where is the integrity and honor that comes with being the shepherd of the flock of Christ? We know quite well that all this "visitations" are a stunt to portray the false notion that Yar Adua is ok, why did Oyedepo agree to be a part of the fraud?

If he didnt want to say anything about the visit WHY publicize it in the media in the first place? If indeed there is nothing to hide then why is he refusing to divulge details?

I'm sorry but a man of the cloth is answerable to his flock, read your bible well.

I do know that Nigerians loves to make more money added to what they already have . . . .However, i dont "think" that Oyedepo's visit has to do with looking for money.

It remains a private visit whether you like it or not. Their invitation was not to see him on your behalf. If Yar'adua wants  Nigerians to see him, he knows exactly what to do.

Most Nigerians tend to think tactically rather than strategically. Their is no point heating up the polity by divulging the details of what they saw.

The fact that only the clergy were invited to see speaks volumes. There is this popular saying Action Speaks Louder than Words.

If I was in shoe of the clergy men I will act the same. Moreso, Emmanuel Kure has informed us that they prayed with the president he he mutered amen. We are accustomed to men who play to the gallery that is why we are reacting the way we do.  Playing to gallery will not move any nation forward.

exactly!!!

Its simply a political excersize.

@Mikeansy. Been following this thread and I quite agree with most of your submission. Mr. Oyedepo did not visit in a personal capacity. He visited as a pawn to be used in the game of power to checkmate the Jonathan presidency, whether acting or substantive.

His visit alongside three other clerics was facilitated by Mr. James Ibori, after Mr. Oritsejafor and Adeboye could not make it for logisitic reasons.

Peeps fail to see the significance of Professor Obaje's inclusion in the team (the man is a politician and has burning ambition to be governor of Kogi state).

The visit is a shameful sham. As priests, they are obligated to visit and keep mum about a condition if only it is not controversial.

That is so not true Sir,
I can not speak for other churches that i dont know of oh, but i know of few that gives food, clothes on regular basis to the poor, i know of some that opens their gate to feed hungry people on weekly basis.
I know of some that donated into Haiti funds.
So what do you mean they take and dont give back.
So also some politicians do give back . . . .

How James Ibori recruited Christian leaders to visit Yar'adua
Tuesday, 06 April 2010 21:32

Authoritative sources have told Saharareporters that former Governor James Ibori of Delta State organized yesterday’s visit of four Christian leaders to see ailing Nigerian ruler Umaru Yar’adua in Aso Rock Villa.

Archbishop John Onaiyekan, the outspoken Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, Bishop David Oyedepo, the high-flying prosperity pastor who is general overseer of the Winners Chapel, Pastor Yusuf Obaje, who served as chaplain in Aso Rock during former President Obasanjo’s tenure, and Reverend Emmanuel Kure of the Throne Room Church in Kaduna made the trip to see Yar’adua.

Our sources said that Ibori, who remains in hiding after the EFCC chairperson, Farida Waziri, tipped him off on plans to arrest him for fresh money laundering offences, made contact with several Christian leaders to arrange a “Christian” visit to the gravely ill Yar’adua. Ibori, our sources said, acted at the request of Turai, Yar’adua’s wife, who felt that a visit by a Christian group would be a good move after an earlier visit by Islamic prelates backfired.

Besides, Ibori reportedly told her that a visit by Christian leaders would help calm a raging negative storm triggered by the visit by Muslim clerics. One of the Islamic clerics, Datti Ahmad, had issued widely reported threats that Nigeria would experience crisis if Yar’adua was removed from power.

“Hajia [Turai] convinced Chief Ibori to arrange some Christian leaders to see her husband, whatever his condition, to douse any lingering controversy – and also to enlist some Christian sympathy for her desire to secure her husband as a continuing relevant factor,” said one source.

After Saharareporters broke the news about the composition of the Christian delegation, some newspapers rushed to town with claims that Archbishop Onaiyekan and Bishop Oyedepo had denied being part of the delegation. But Oyedepo today broke his silence in Abeokuta where he had gone to preach at Governor Gbenga Daniels’ birthday event. Besieged by reporters, Oyedepo confessed that he was actually part of the delegation. However, he arrogantly told the newspapers that he does not owe the Nigerian public an explanation for his visit, which he described as private.

Our sources disclosed Turai Yar’adua was overwhelmed by the public outcry that greeted the visit to her husband by four imams. A close source to one of the imams revealed that the Islamic leaders had held several meetings with Turai to fine-tune strategies for frustrating “acting President” Goodluck Jonathan’s consolidation of power. Saharareporters has learnt from various political sources in Abuja that Mrs. Yar’adua had lost a lot of sleep over the possibility that her physically ravaged husband could be declared incapacitated by a new cabinet put in place by Jonathan. “She had hoped that the imams’ visit could help ignite some sort of demonstration after Friday prayers in mosques across the north,” said one security source. When that outcome failed to materialize, she asked Ibori to help reach out to credible Christian leaders who could help douse the criticisms trailing the visit by the imams.

One source said that Ibori first contacted Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor who declined the offer. He then invited Oyedepo, Onaiyekan and Obaje who agreed to pay a visit. Obaje, who had a falling out with Obasanjo towards the end of his tenure because the ex-president had failed to anoint him governor of Kogi State, was said to be “excited to be part of the delegation.”

Saharareporters could not establish why Onaiyekan, who has a reputation for being outspoken about political corruption, and Oyedepo agreed to be part of the delegation. However, our source indicated that Ibori specifically recruited Reverend Kure to “help the Yar’adua group out with some propaganda.”

“Perhaps unknown to the other three, Reverend Kure was specially hired to do the same job for Turai Yar’adua that Dr. Datti did after the Muslim clerics’ visit,” said one source. “That job was to present to the public an impression that Yar’adua was making steady improvement and should be expected to return to office.”

However, after being grilled by foreign correspondents and local journalists after the encounter with Yar’adua, Kure was forced to admit that Yar’adua could only manage to grunt “Amen” during their prayer session with him. In yet another interview he said that he had closed his eyes to pray and could not tell if Yar’adua actually said Amen.

A source told Saharareporters that Onaiyekan was keeping silent for now because he was reportedly too shocked at the condition of Yar’adua.

The Imams Came! The Bishops Saw! The President “Grunt” And He Said “Amen” Wednesday, 07 April 2010 08:47
http://www.saharareporters.com/articles/external-contrib/5738-the-imams-came-the-bishops-saw-the-president-grunt-and-he-said-amen.html

That President Musa Umaru Yar’Adua has been away from public view since the 23rd of November 2009 is no longer news. That his absence and the subsequent power play and shenanigans almost led the country to a state of anarchy is also not a news story, what is however bizarre is the tragic-comedy we are being subjected to by handlers of the President, the more we try to move forward as a country, putting the Yar’Adua drama behind us, the more forces behind the presidents disappearance are also determined to keep the Yar’Adua memory on our table. It is done in such a way that they arrogantly want to tell us we can not move forward as a people without the President. If the President is sick we should be sick, if he coughs we must cough, how best can we describe the macabre dance?

Check out the rough time-line, 23rd November 2009 Yar’Adua was reported to have walked on to the Presidential Jet unassisted and jetted out to Saudi Arabia for a “routine medical check up”. The country was subjected to series of debate as to how “routine” the presidential check up was. The presidency spent weeks refuting speculations that he was smuggled out of Nigeria, then as tensions rose with online bloggers digging, the presidency was forced on the 26th of November 2009 to release a statement that he had pericarditis – inflammation of the heart lining, when it became obvious that the restlessness of a minority calling on the president to step down was becoming justified, a court case was filed on the 23rd December urging him to step down, followed suit by two more court cases by January 5, and then several protest in four continents followed, on the eve of a mass protest in Abuja Nigerian capital a man purportedly President Yar’Adua “granted few minutes interview with the BBC and at a time his country was being put on a terrorist list all Mr Yar’Adua could think of was to wish the Nigerian football team “good luck” in the African cup of Nations football tournament.

Under pressure from Nigerians and with its own survival in mind a docile national assembly circumvented the constitution and rather than impeach Yar’Adua went for a political compromise by invoking a forgotten “principle of necessity” to make Vice President Goodluck Jonathan acting president, Nigerians grudgingly accepted the faith accomplice so as to in the usual mantra “move the nation forward” but as determined as Nigerians are to move forward, those who appear to have hijacked Yar’Adua and making political advantage of his incapacitation are for ever determined to place Yar’Adua’s interest above the interest of 150 million Nigerians, it was first the Nollywood style drama of bringing what appears to be Yar’Adua into Nigeria in the wee of the night without the acting Presidents having a clue that a military operation was taking place, then news feeds about the president drinking the traditional tea with a long lost cousin who later disappeared after his Al-Jazera interview, then before the tea got cold, we were entertained with another news feed of the president taking walks around the beautiful gardens of Aso Villa and having syndicating whispers with birds and nature, all this while is closest next door neighbour who happens to be his Vice President even with powerful binoculars could not set eyes on Yar’Adua and then we were told the president was meant to resume work and shame his enemies.

When the usurpers ran out of lies and scripts, a nation not lacking in drama had to go for another round of expectations with Yar’Adua handlers telling the world he would appear at the Abuja Central mosque, Nigerians took it upon themselves to run live updates at the mosque and the closest of what they got was a Yar’Adua poster close to the entrance of the mosque, as the appearance failed to materialise, Islamic clerics where horridly arraigned to brief doubting Thomas’s that Yar’Adua was fit and healthy as he managed to raise his hands and that was it, our president is fit as a result of a medical certification of a local imam, whose diagnosis was the raise of a hand.

When you think the Yar’Adua handlers had ran out of script and that we would be allowed to face the many daunting challenges facing a sleeping giant of a Nation then from the Nollywwod script came a bombshell. Christian leaders had been arraigned to meet Yar’Adua and in case a doubting nation did not believe the raising of a hand story of a local Islamic cleric their was the need to enroll the service of respected men of God and who else than Bishop David Oyedepo who is described as the “flamboyant pastor and jet-set cleric of the prosperity winners chapel, accompanied by Reverend Emmanuel Kure, and Archbishop Onaiyekan and by the time the men of God left Yar’Adua the medical report they could come with was President Musa Umoru Yar’Adua being hail and healthy and managing to “grunt Amen” and then a denial by senior pastors in Oyedepo’s winners chapel, swearing to God that Bishop Oyedepo was busy tendering to his disciples in Ota during the time of the said Yar’Adua visit and that the on line media Sharareporters fabricated the story.

Before we could say Sahara our man of God was seen less than 24 hours after the Yar’Adua visit in the company of Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Ogun State governor Gbenga Daniel and the many Oluwos of Egba telling Nigerians to mind their business that his visit to Yar’Adua was a very private visit and like every soap opera in Nigeria, a visit by cleric to a President who refuse to see his deputy or any member of his ruling party is in the words of the Bishop “private” and then the denial swept under the carpet. We can not touch the anointed men of God but pretty soon God “grunt” will become a roar and then questions will be asked, what a sad ending to a badly written script, do we have to be reduced to this comedy?

Why cant Yar’Adua’s handlers get it and acknowledge that the power game is up, let the man rest, recover peacefully and if it is Allah’s wish that he his in last days give him the grace to reconcile with his creator and our nation the grace reconcile with the task of “moving forward” it is time to save Yar’Adua from Yar’Adua so that Nigerians can free Nigeria from some Nigerians.

Nigerians like to focus on frivolities - instead of focussing on how to move forward with Jonathan and the new ministers, they are more concerned about hearing whether Yar'adua was drinking kunu or fura de nunu.  undecided

That is how they'll keep you engaged with this silly story and before you know it 13 months will have passed and another government sworn in.

What good has come from knowing that Yardie could/couldn't grunt Amen?

Torch not my annointed and do my prophet no arm, but nontheless the visitation should not have been made personal becos these are our mouth piece as we all can not be talking at the same time.

I think we are miscontrueing spritual and politics as the visitation should be made politics not personal/spirtual

these comments are because of the issue at the moment. if they went to pray for him nobody will ask them to comment on his state if everything is normal.
I dont think they are under any obligation make such comment.

this people should not drag the cleric name in the mud. they should tell us the truth about his health [I mean the cabal or whatever]
Re: Visit To Yar’adua Is Personal –oyedepo by Nobody: 5:01pm On Apr 07, 2010
The issue here is not about engaging in rhetorical flourishes. The issue is whether our country can live up to the promise of obeying its own constitution at all times not when it is easy but because it is right.

Understanding the state of health of Yar'adua and implementing the constitution is important for our future. It sets a dangerous precedence is we sustain the status quo untill 2011.
Re: Visit To Yar’adua Is Personal –oyedepo by mbulela: 5:06pm On Apr 07, 2010
I am really struggling to see this issue from Debosky's view point.
As much as i try,it is just not making sense to me.
I am still struggling to understand how these men were forced to go on this visit?
the single most contentious issue in the country today is this Yar Adua health issue.
Yet you have an opportunity to either contribute to this issue positively yet you claim it was a private visit?
Is he trying to feel important or what (i hang out with the Yar Aduas',i am a bigger boy!!!!!)?
If that visit did not have a political undertone and i believe the pastors that attended are too intelligent not to realise that, what exactly was the aim?

I am even more worried that men like him who are meant to be oracles of truth in times such as these, will be partying with the likes of OGD and cloak it with sanctimonious, hypocritical sermons.
No wonder, the church in Nigeria is powerless. Its leaders are not passionate about change in the public space and are unwilling to challenge the powers that are ruining this nation.
How many of these men that visited Yar Adua have joined the public in matching for change?
How many have identified with symbolic public gestures that shows they identify with the masses in the struggle to free this nation from the grip of bankrupt and vision less leaders?
These men think that the monster that grips this nation can be bound by attempting to tame it and speak sweet nothings to the powers that be, while currying favours by their close proximity to Aso rock.
We shall all leave to see the end but i can bet the end will not be good.
These big churches spend millions monthly on power generation yet they are silent on the issues of NEPA.
How many of them supported the 'light up Nigeria project' or even start a similar project with the huge funds at their disposal?
They have never empowered their members to demand for equity and judicious use of funds from the powers that be,instead they arouse themselves in the aphrodisiac of proximity to power, forgetting that they are meant to be oracles of the Greatest power of all.

Private visit or not, these men have opened themselves to so much ridicule that i struggle to understand how they can justify it in the face of present day realities.
The country is under the cloud of deceit, lies and rumours and men that ought to know better have chosen to thicken this dark and ominous cloud.

Assuming Jesus were to be on earth and Yaradua requested him to pray for him, would Jesus have gone to pray for him since he (Yaradua) is a sinner and not deserving of any mercy and also knowing that the nation of Nigeria will strongly condemn him and cry "crucify him"!!!!

No I think Jesus would still have shown mercy to him and prayed for him. Jesus was a friend to tax collectors, what name was he not called by the public becos of that friendship.
He rescued the woman caught in adultery with enough witness, and said "he that is without sin should cast the first stone"

Lets take it easy, we have not heard the full story of what transpired to make judgemental statements. If Oyedepo had come out singing that Yaradua will soon be up and about to take over his office like the Imam did, then i will believe he went there for another agenda.
Instead he kept quiet.

This is interesting.
IS ELIJAH BACK FROM THE 'DEAD'?

It is not news that Nigerians are very religious. When matters of religion are discussed, most often, the Nigerian is very cautious, maybe to avoid “speaking against a man of God”; or to “avoid blasphemy.” In such discourses, even the bluntest public commentator finds his tongue stuck. I am writing what you are about to read in my capacity as a Nigerian; a Man of God; a public commentator; and a scholar. I am writing as a man of God because I believe that I am one. I have not been appointed a Man of God by any man; after all, I am a Man of God, not Man of man. I am a Christian leader, a pastor, and preacher. I am also a scholar; and there is no contradiction. I happen to be taught in the word of God, and know enough to comment on the issue I am addressing here. I am compelled to write in order to save the simple the confusion caused by the recent visit on the ailing President Yar’Adua by some Muslim and Christian clerics. As a Christian, I shall quote some Bible passages to buttress some of the points I shall make.

It is not in itself wrong to visit an ailing man to pray for them. It is wonderful if the ailing has enough and correct faith to be healed. What is wrong, and even sinful, is when duplicity and falsehood are ignored by the religious as they seek healing for the sick. For months, Nigerians have witnessed and complained at the cavalier attitude with which the Nigerian first family treated them (and they are still being ignored). We were lied to severally; the stability of the nation was threatened by the negligence of this family. And I thought to myself; if the president’s people are claiming that the president was “recuperating”, “watching soccer”, “exercising for more than 20 minutes a day”, “walking around in Aso Rock garden, watching birds and playing with animals”, “taking coffee with cousins”, and “would resume work next week”, then why should I “pray for him”?

Truth has fallen on the ground in Nigeria! Even some religious leaders, to whom God has given the platform to rebuke, correct, and exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine have become pawns that can be used and dumped by people with no scruples. Let me tell a story from the Bible, which is similar to the Yar’Adua drama:

2 Kings 1: 1-8: “1Then Moab rebelled against Israel after the death of Ahab.
2And Ahaziah fell down through a lattice in his upper chamber that was in Samaria, and was sick: and he sent messengers, and said unto them, Go, enquire of Baalzebub the god of Ekron whether I shall recover of this disease.

3But the angel of the LORD said to Elijah the Tishbite, Arise, go up to meet the messengers of the king of Samaria, and say unto them, Is it not because there is not a God in Israel, that ye go to enquire of Baalzebub the god of Ekron?

4Now therefore thus saith the LORD, Thou shalt not come down from that bed on which thou art gone up, but shalt surely die. And Elijah departed.
5And when the messengers turned back unto him, he said unto them, Why are ye now turned back?

6And they said unto him, There came a man up to meet us, and said unto us, Go, turn again unto the king that sent you, and say unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Is it not because there is not a God in Israel, that thou sendest to enquire of Baalzebub the god of Ekron? therefore thou shalt not come down from that bed on which thou art gone up, but shalt surely die.

7And he said unto them, What manner of man was he which came up to meet you, and told you these words?

8And they answered him, He was an hairy man, and girt with a girdle of leather about his loins. And he said, It is Elijah the Tishbite.”

I must ask Pastor Oyedepo, Pastor Obaji, Pastor Kure, and Bishop Onayeikon if they are familiar with the above passage. Here are Christian leaders who should know that there can be no mixture of faith. The first family has been reported to have contacted Mara bouts and Islamic clerics in their quest for healing for President Yar’Adua. The emphases of all those contacts differ. I wonder whether they preached to the first family Jesus, whom they are called to preach. I wonder if they asked the first family to believe on Jesus the Christ for healing. I wonder if their “prayer” for the president was in the Name of Jesus, or they “prayed” like some cowardly and undependable Christian leaders pray without ending “in the Name of Jesus.” I wonder if they can with good conscience claim that the first family had genuine faith in Jesus Christ for healing, given that they had also contacted Islamic clerics to “pray” only few days ago. Is a mixture of faith permitted by Christ? Were they not used? Did they go at the bidding of God; if so did they preach to the first family Jesus and ask them to let Nigeria stabilize?

The first family appear to have a multifaceted faith. The four pastors have brought public shame on the Christian leadership, of whom I am part. I call on them to repent and publicly apologize to Nigerians. Enough of public shame on the body of Christ! Have those four rebuked the first family for the role they have played so far in defiance of the constitution of Nigeria?

Is there no God in Ekron that the first family is looking to the ends of the earth for healing? If President Yar’Adua rises up from his sickness without a public apology and repentance by both the first family and those who have been used to deceive the nation, then I am not a man of God. In fact, I make bold to say that the recent act of using religious leaders to create impeachable webs of deceit and distract the present tentative leadership has broken the camel’s back. Yar’Adua may die in a matter of days.

2 Kings 1: 17: “So he died according to the word of the LORD which Elijah had spoken. And Jehoram reigned in his stead in the second year of Jehoram the son of Jehoshaphat king of Judah; because he had no son.”
King Ahaziah died! If you read the verses between Verses 8 and 17, you will see that King Ahaziah sent to arrest Prophet Elijah. But fire came down from heaven and consumed the soldiers. The solution to Yar’Adua’s problem is not arresting or killing those who have spoken the truth; for that would bring the first family and their collaborators more disaster. They must repent. But I see the end very close. Nigerians, it is time.

I'm still wondering if those slagging off Bishop Oyedepo are teasing or just being deliberately cynical, on one hand they dont like the man, are not members of his church yet they expect him to inform them of his whereabouts/activities.
Also, if a member of the church went to the bishop for counselling, is he obliged to divulge the content of the meeting? In the same way why must he tell us about a private meeting with the ex-president?

I always suspect that man for no reason. Now he's showing his true color as a man devoid of integrity.

Where are his Winners and Restoration 2010 members. Those fools and goons will soon come up to defend his actions.

Can someone advice this M-O-Gs (Men of God) to stop disgracing Jesus name?

TO MBEKI, I PITY U, IF THE WRATH OF GOD FALLS ON U, HOW DARE U TALK ABOUT THE MAN OF GOD LIKE THAT AND THE RESTORATION 2010 MEMBERS?I WONDER IF U CAN EVER BE RESTORED IN YOUR LIFE

@ mbeki, I am sure you are S T U P I D , lack MENTAL INTELLIGENCE and 100% sure you are not a Christian. Even if Bishop has visited Yar Adua, and in your own personal thinking you deem it wrong, couldn't you have analysed it like someone who have atleast secondary school education.

Matthew 10:5a 16, 21-33

These twelve Jesus sent out, "Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves. Brother will deliver brother over to death, and the father his child, and children will rise against parents and have them put to death, and you will be hated by all for my name's sake. But the one who endures to the end will be saved. When they persecute you in one town, flee to the next, for truly, I say to you, you will not have gone through all the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes. "A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master. It is enough for the disciple to be like his teacher, and the servant like his master. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebul, how much more will they malign those of his household. "So have no fear of them, for nothing is covered that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known. What I tell you in the dark, say in the light, and what you hear whispered, proclaim on the housetops. And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell. Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows. So everyone who acknowledges me before men, I also will acknowledge before my Father who is in heaven, but whoever denies me before men, I also will deny before my Father who is in heaven.

It intrigues me how Oyedepo beefers would so eagerly get on their keyboards to type slanderous words against the man. I see nothing wrong in what he did and his position. Maybe you all would have preferred that he disregarded the invitation to see the president, and pray for him, or better still, announce in the media, the details of his visit. He has a right to keep mute and those asking him questions are not his church members to whom he might owe some explanation.

I believe he would say something about it in church when ministering on sunday, (this yar'adua visit just happened like two days ago). So for all whose ears are itching to know what transpired, you are invited to Cannanland this Sunday 11th April, 2010 (there are 3 services; 6:30am, 8:45am and 11.00am). If you can't make it due to your geographical location, you can hook up to the live services @ http://www.davidoyedepoministries.org/live-media-center. You are welcome!
