I think the President is kind of confused.

Though there are many gods and I know he is not referring to the God who created the heaven and earth.

He is referring to the god he believes in.

My opinion though...

He should not be criticized, there's freedom of speech

Don't forget the fact that we are created in the image of God, which gives us the grace to choose between right and wrong.
