I think Pein himself said that If Jiraiya had known that There were 6 of them, that he MAY have won. And personally after seeing the showdown between 6 tailed naruto and the deva Path i doubted whether Jiraiya could have beaten that monster.. Especially since Naruto had his first successes beating the other paths when the deva path was down and Then his aid by the 9 tails when he was captured.

Sage mode amplifies your jutsus just as we say but someone rightly pointed out that the jutsu was done BEFORE he entered sage mode..
And besides what is the difference between sensory type and a sensing Jutsu? Where in the naruto world have you seen a sensory ninja use a jutsu to sense? Karen? No... C from the lightning village? No.. Second Hokage? No... Naruto in kyuubi mode? no What jiraiya did was a type of barrier jutsu. And it stands to reason that whoever can do that jutsu will be granted the same benefits the jutsu brings..
Sage mode grants you increased sensory ability perhaps even greater than that of a sensory ninja and it is within this category that i compare Naruto and Jiraiya..
