its not an online outlet that sell only paint. Infact its very popular lol. This is Sam with most of their over priced products.

I insist they would soon stop selling paint.

Sooner or later a site would cater solely for paint and surely that would run them out of that trade.

In any case, nobody would be patronizing a website with such a price difference against what is found in the open market.

No infrastructural growth would be obtained without a reciprocal growth in taxation.

All the bodies many of you bandy to buttress your point s suggest an increase in tax generation - World Bank, IMF, all suggest we do.

As soon as we do, you guys go into complain mode.

Sigh... First off, I take issues with being lumped into the bandwagon scornfully termed "many of you''...

I didn't directly nor indirectly castigate the introduction of taxes and tariffs especially on the well used online markets. I merely pointed out an obvious difference between our nation and others regarding the utilization of generated tax revenues.

I made a very distinct and unassailable point, except you wish to fallaciously submit that taxes and tariffs have not been generated since Buhari came into office...

In previous posts, I have clearly queried the utilization of the extremely high taxes (Trillions if you may) generated in Lagos alone in a single calendar year. So, it's quite untruthful to hold the position that Nigerians are not taxed daily to monthly.

Thank you.

Here in the US they task everything u buy, cash, online, debit machines anything. This is just an example of me trying to buy a tv worth over $1000. The tax is about $68 added to the original price of the tv which is 6% of the original cost.

In those developed countries you mentioned, peoples taxes are well spent....good roads, stable electricity, portable water et al are to show for it.
Trust me, Nigerians won’t give a Bleep if these are in place for them

So this is a fvcked up development and should b antagonized....these politicians will surely loot the proceeds thereof

Should we make such statements in isolation?

Most of the first tier European nations which exert a high tax regime today were once purveyors of slave trade and plundering of resources of their colonies.

With such easy access to labour and materials, it was even easier for them to focus on other aspects of living such as research and development.

No doubt, this is no excuse but we ought to stop making everything a war.

We as a people must work together, produce together and project together.

The price quote in-store is same with online-store(stores with physical presence like 3c Hub or Slot), when you buy in-store, it states vat-inclusive, so I see no reason why I won't assume that there is vat on what I'm paying for already from same store online.
Imagine someone charging me ₦5000 directly from my account just because I bought a commodity of ₦100000 online, it's not a sound policy in my view, also not everyone that make purchases online is knowledgeable about financial terms to know that there is a special charge aside the price display for a product.

In addition, FG needs to start imposing income tax on foreign social media platforms like Google, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. All revenues generated by these platforms from Nigeria should be fully subjected to Nigeria taxes.

Nigeria does not have the global political clout to do that, Donald Trump will be offended, and America could revenge. Trust me, we will lose more.

I wouldn't be surprised if this includes card payments on the government Remita platform. Imagine paying tax to the government because you want to "pay" them.

Although I dislike this government because of its lack of direction. but we have to admit that advanced countries like the UK, France, Germany and even in some African countries like South Africa, Botswana and even Ghana employ these sort of taxation to raise money for the government to carryout infrastructural development.

The policy is outright theft and nothing but gangster or omonile tax the Yoruba people have been metting out at people for years and now they want to take this to Federal level , this is how they want to tax MTN for the fine it paid to the govt ...Does Tunde Fowler realise that money in my card used to pay for online goods and service is my salary that has already been over taxed before i put it in my bank account where stamp duty is also taxed and my ATM card is already taxed . This is nothing but Tinubu style theft which Nigerians must reject ..You cannot tax me for spending money you already taxed .

Yes the Government can definitely tax your money multiple times. even though Americans enjoyed some of the lowest taxes among the western countries, they still have to pay income taxes on their salaries, then yearly property taxes on (houses and cars) if they have one, then sales taxes on every single purchase made with their own money. you may call it multiple taxation but every modern day government do it to fund development. American government main source or only source of revenue is through taxation and definitely not from oil like in Nigeria even though America produces more oil than Nigeria

The average Nigerian(Black Man) want development but does not want to pay for it

I am not in support of this policy, now before you start talking about people not wanting to pay taxes, consider the following:

1) Most e-commerce websites already include 5% VAT in their charges, if the money is not remitted to the government, then they should take it up with those entities.

2) Appointing banks as collectors will lead to multiple taxations as VAT will be deducted from your account irrespective of whether the online business entity already includes a VAT in the charge. Consumers will end up paying 10% effective VAT per transaction.

3) Did Mr Fowler consider the drive towards a cashless economy before making this pronouncement? One of the benefits of a cashless economy is easy traceability which reduces corruption as the money trail is very easy to follow, what exactly is Mr Fowler's motive?

Mr Man, any item you buy either online or offline (over-the-counter) is already VAT inclusive (you can confirm from any receipt you get from Jumia, Konga, etc). This new VAT imposition will amount to double taxation and any potential buyer will end up paying 10% VAT. This is really going to have an adverse effect on e-commerce as many peeps may likely revert to buying their stuff from brick and mortar stores. If federal govt needs money to fund their 2019 budget, they should review down the bogus/over-bloated pay packages of all these lazy politicians and their retinue of aides. Why is it that the govt still want to be collecting more from the masses without giving back anything reasonable in return. The FG shouldn't compound the woes of the average Nigerian by over-straining our meagre disposable income.
