I think Dora is a joke. For those of you who still commend her, your quick to forget that she supported the illegal appointment of Ekiti States govenor on the PDP platform, this is the same Dora that was partying with the Minister of Education Egwu, who was at the time supposed to be negotiating on behalf of ASUU with the federal government so that Nigerian students who had been at home for months could go back to school. The same Dora who watched as the country was in suspense over the absence of Yar Adua, and only spoke out when she saw the bubble bursting.

In my opinion, Dora is a full blown politician and only looks out for her interests. She cries wolf, when she sees a way to turn things to her advantage. Hasnt she served enough in the government? Apart from the work she did at Nafdac, Which by the way was many years ago, what else has Dora done?

I have nothing against her, but lets call a spade a spade. Dora cannot be likened to Lamido/ Ribadu/ Fashola, they just are not in the same boat. Dora looks out for her interests, period. She has served as the mouth piece for the same politicians that have held our country to ransom.

All that being said, she is free like anyone else to contest, however, my question to her is, madam what do you have to offer? what will you do now that you havent done in the last four years? See how much was sunk into the rebrand nigeria project, what has she achieved so far? I think we all know the answer to that. Just my two cents

Maybe this is an attempt to rebrand herself smiley. Madam Dora, you dont strike me as  a credible person and you do not have my vote.

One more thing, i know as Nigerians our options are limited as to who we can choose as credible leaders, we always have to choose the less of two evils, granted Dora may be slightly better than other politicians out there, but that doesnt mean we shouldnt be honest about her faults. Saying that one is better than the other doesnt serve any purpose if they are both bad. For some, their opinions of Dora is not a baseless attack, its just based on events involving her.

Nobody is perfect sha, but when you decide to go into public office, always remember that the whole point is to serve!

@kobo, im surprise u have this view, i hav read your thread and u hv always stood out as a proactive realistic , non-quixotic-eccentric woman.

what is aunty dora's crime?
that she spoke out what most naija pple were saying : that mk turaki (yaradua's wife) hand over to GEJ?

its really amazing and dismaying who we Nigeria fight , our present senators are bending the nation over and consummating her  bare back and vigorously yet no one is raising hell on them.

aunty dora did a poor job at most on the information ministry, her handling of the NTA contract was appalling.ok,  having said that she is the same person that had the courage to shut aririra medicine market, a market in lagos and the magnificent infamous onisha main mkt - medicine section, even when the pliers of the trade are her own people- ibos. one might say eeh yeah that was her job anyone can do it but u forget she is a woman married into the ibo culture yet have the valour and integrity to defend humanity and do wat was right. previous pple that occupied NAFDAC or its previous name never i repeat never did half the goodwill dora did.

if u find faults in her how abt her contestants? who re they ? wat hav the achived? wat accolades have they got?

morover she doesnt have any trace of theft or fraud on her name, begin ambitious shudnt b a crime my pple

It is quite obvious most of the contributors to this thread are not politically inclined , else , I do not see the reason why a true political informed person will denounce the ambition of a well refined , tested and trusted technocrat as Prof. Dora as selfish or inordinate . It is her type , persons of timber and caliber we need in the national assembly to have hope for good legislation . Carry go prof. , the true leaders of positive change are solidly behind you .

May I suggest that rather than be carried away with the shallow and ridiculous, you examine her record in the last 24 months to get a better idea of her leadership skills and how making her a senator may further work against us. Don't look at anything else but her actual work record in the last 24 months.

what this incoherent administration did to this amazon is a sample of what will happen to the Igbos if GEJ is allowed to continue beyond may 2011,the truth is that a core niger delta man hates the Igbo more than any other tribe in Nigeria today and i want to faulted on this.I am amazed by a group of self serving, irresponsible, silly and insane so called 'Igbo leaders' who is said to have endorsed GEJ with a cache that he will support the Igbo in 2015,i wonder why some pple can be so blinded from reality, well not so surprised that their spokesperson is Martin Elechi,an epitome/embodiment of incompetence, inaction and frivolity.lets assume that GEJ as desperate as he is now accepts the deal, but how can he enforce it?can he ever sacrifice his unbridled ambition for second term come 2015?what of Sambo, who seems to be the real power behind the throne,so what happens to him?how can this foolish 'leaders' canvass for the position at that time since they've supported the dishonouring of a written PDP agreement now? i call on all patriotic Igbos to denounce this selfish pple and work hard to enlighten our pple at grassroots whom this usurpers loathe but claim to speak for.

Stop letting your hate reason for you. Try to calm down and maybe use your head a bit more in these things. We blamed the Yar adua administration too for her ineptitude as Minister of Information then, now you blame Jonathan for her inability to function yet again as a leader? Come on now . . . .

A wasteful and rebellious generation looking for signs and wonders but none shall be shown them until,

The truth is; Nigerians are a bunch of hypocrites. We clamour change only with our mouths and not with our hearts and senses. How can people deride Prof Dora Akunyili for daring to run for a Senatorial election? It is even funny how some people are pointing to some failings that exist only in their own biased minds. Please people, Dora should be judged by her enduring legacies and contribution to the Nigerian state as a whole and not by some obscured failures.

It is very easy to sit down at the convenience of your house and grab a PC to type out someone else's shortcomings. If we all are to be judged by our failures, how many of us would qualify to be called patriotic Nigerians in the real sense of the word? What has been each and everyone's contribution to the development of our country? Who among us has done a tenth of what Dora has done to this country? Who among our mothers have staked their lives to fight injustice and crimes in Nigeria like Dora did, let alone our fathers?

Please, we need to be fair in our comments about this woman's ambition.

Lol, Kobojunkie. I am in agreement with you. Its sad that people will resort to insult to get their point across.

Nairaland is free for all to express their opinions. I think that being civil in disagreement and divergent views speaks to our individual character. State your opinions in a civil manner. In every setting, there will always be people for or against. Fact of life, arent we old enough to know that by now?
Re: Tension Over Akunyili’s Senatorial Ambition by Nobody: 6:04pm On Dec 14, 2010
See people wasting their saliva (or is it bruising their fingers) arguing over total falsehood. Anyone with even a slight understanding of Dora and her excellent polical antecedents would know that this report is absolute nonsense. Dora cannot quit PDP and her plum ministerial job (and not to mention her favourable position in the heart of the President) to go and jostle for a senatorial seat on the platform of APGA. No way.

As she memorably demonstrated during the tempestuous and edgy Yar'A-Dead-or-not days, her ability to read political hand writings on the wall is masterful. In view of her then sensitive position as the government mouth-piece, if she had naively pledged loyalty to Yar-Adua (or his wife/cabal), she'd have been an ex-minister by now like fools like Aliero, Aoandoakaa, etc. Knowing that a good dancer must always change her dance steps when the music beat changes, she conjured up an unforgettable 'memo' that instantly confirmed her place as a blue-eyed girl in the heart of the then President-in-Waiting. From cooking in Turai's kitchen, she waltzed across the block to do Patience's pedicure. . .all cementing her powerful position and proving her an expert in the supreme arts of strategic timing and self-preservation.

Judging from such remarkable perceptive skills, the only thing that would make her dump her job and the PDP at this point is the likelihood that Jonathan would not clinch the PDP ticket, or by extension, would not return as president in 2011. Knowing that this is almost impossible. . .since an Incumbent president cannot lose an election in present-day Nigeria, she will 'dutifully' remain in the cabinet and suck-up to Jonathan and Patience and continue to wield considerable influence in the kitchen cabinet well into the forseeable future. There is no doubt about that.

And talking about 'looting', assuming that Dora is interested in that, who is to say that there are more opportunities for looting as a senator than as a minister of information and communications? No chance, trust me. No senator can possibly loot more than a minister of a grade A ministry. . .(ask Aliero and Bala Mohammed who both relinguished their senate seats to become ministers).

Nigerians and their pathological stupidity,

we have been crying for a good leader, when we have one , we go out rubbishing her, as far as i know, Dora Akunyili is still the best public servant this country has ever produced and she has more than a lot to deliver as a law maker .

I cant pin point one rational case those criticizing that selfless woman has mentioned against her, just some silly talks that stems from their ignorance, envy and emotional problems,  can some one mention one case against her ? is time some of you grow up and come out of your hopeless stupidity.

If such a woman of sound character, courage, sacrifice and selflessness is not in the senate house, which Nigeria or rather anambrarian  should be there?

I dont know why  its so difficult to express one's opinion in this country if it runs contrary to popular thoughts or belliefs. and U say this is a democracy where everyone is free to express his own thoughts. no wonbder the country is where it is, since we are all supposed to agree to everything like sheep and question nothing. we might as well pray for a millitary regime where they force their views on everyone.  cool

Which state is Dora vying for office?  ANAMBRA
Which party does she want to join? APGA.

Anambra does not complain, APGA does not complain even the man she is going to contest against only wants a fair primary.

I then ask you, how many of you are from Anambra? NONE
How many of you ever supported APGA? NONE.

You people should leave Dora alone. She was giving the re-branding project . She did not just take it. On what happened during yaradua wahala, by now all of you must have known that she did the right thing what with the wikileak exposure.

I am from anambra and i have a lot of respect for her but was against her due to the party she was in.She  will not contest under the evil umbrella.
On her fight with her brother, Barack obama said it all, don't drag her family into politics. Talk about her not her family. Did you hear her own side of the story? Was it not Soludo that said it,did she reply? How are you sure it;s true? It was not even Soludo but his over zealot lieutenants.
Dora is good for us but she should not go back to PDP after the election.
