You have to give it to Atiku though - he's in tune with the modern political style perhaps more than any other politician in the country today. First he made the ISSUES a feature of his campaign, such as govt overshooting its spending commitments and getting into further debt, and now he's angling for a public presidential debate.

Whatever his other 'flaws', I think he's the most politically modern and astute politician of northern extraction since independence.

Faeb:

38 people just died in Jos.Has Atiku sympathised with them?
All he and his dim followers can think of is how to hang desperately unto GEJ's popularity wagon, in the vain hope that a crumb or two will drop in their laps.

38 people just died in Jos, and the President is likely to be too busy to humour thieves and their worshippers.
. . .But what can one expect from the ranks of a THIEF?

I'm pretty sure some people can't see anything wrong about GEJ, why say lame things though"38 people just died in Jos.Has Atiku sympathised with them". I guess GEJ is meant to wait until things like this happen to appologise instead of taking proactive measures. Clueless man supported by some die hard clueless people. PDP is just not it.

Re: Atiku Challenges Jonathan To Debate by jaygetta(m): 5:40pm On Dec 27, 2010
I just heard that because of his past "Goodlucks" in moving up once something happens to his boss, GEJ is said to be crossing his fingers hoping that AtiffKu somehow mysteriously falls ill and goes on to his make. This, I heard, remains his "strategy" in response to homo-boy's call for a debate!
Re: Atiku Challenges Jonathan To Debate by Winnerslfc(m): 5:40pm On Dec 27, 2010
I must say, it is really interesting to be on NL where foolishness rains with no limit How can anyone even imagine that GEJ is scared of iliiterate Atiku? Did GEJ say he was afraid of the dunce- Atiku? It is somewhat interesting to find that Nigerians can run into illogical conclusions
Atiku is just a confused trouble maker- seeking an opportunity to create an old men fight as a way of pouring out his prejudice. I want us to note that nothing good will ever come out from that debate but a fight which may claim the lives of some innocent Nigerians.
Let things remain the way they are PLEASE!
He that eats with the devil is expected to always use a long spoon. Damn it!

Re: Atiku Challenges Jonathan To Debate by ADint(m): 6:00pm On Dec 27, 2010
There is absolutely no need for Jonathan to get into any debate with anyone right now, the debates should be after the primaries and should be between the presidential flag bearers of the various political parties! This is an arrogant approach from the Atiku team, in effect creating the impression or taking it for granted that the PDP primaries is representative of the total wishes of all Nigerians.

Debates within political parties at this level is not the norm, Jonathan should not fall for it.
Re: Atiku Challenges Jonathan To Debate by Nobody: 6:05pm On Dec 27, 2010
Another ridiculous excuse.

President Obama and Hillary Clinton were they not from the same Democratic Party? Did they not have debates?

Did Gbenga Daniel not recently attempt to organise debates for PDP Guber primaries candidate in Ogun State?

Keep making up excuses and destroying Nigeria. Jonathan should immediately accept the debate; he will be a better person for it win or loose. The debate will also be victory for Nigeria's democracy.

Only folks who have something to hide will run away from debates.
Is Jonathan's whole candidacy a scam?
Re: Atiku Challenges Jonathan To Debate by maimalari: 6:16pm On Dec 27, 2010
Gej should substitute Namadi Sambo with Ngozi okonjo iweala as running mate. That way things will better for him. Sambo is a high-thief.
Re: Atiku Challenges Jonathan To Debate by Kobojunkie: 6:22pm On Dec 27, 2010
If Okonjo Iweala chooses to align herself with Jonathan, I will take it as confirmation that she is probably made of the same material as the many of those in the leading party today.
Re: Atiku Challenges Jonathan To Debate by appletango: 6:28pm On Dec 27, 2010
Obama and clinton had numerous debates, as did ed and david milliband.

In fact, the normal political process in democratic societies is for politicians to debate - regardless of if its intra-party or between parties.

You guys dismissing the need for debate are just exposing your undemocratic nature.

As for those claiming that jonathan has yet to respond, yes you are right but this is now the SECOND TIME IN THREE WEEKS that he has been challenged to a live debate by atiku and still we have no response; so I think we can safely assume he's running scared.

@mikeansy

I would have agreed with you if it were any of the other aspirants on the PDP platform. I do not see the Atiku team going for such a debate to 'really' discuss national issues, but most likely an opportunity on a grand national scale to reinforce their irrational 'zoning' propaganda and heat up the polity even more! If it were someone like Bukola Saraki that was asking for this then it would make more sense!

The Atiku team have already shown how they play with the way they schemed IBB out under the guise of 'northern consensus candidate' when from all indications now, Atiku was already pre-ordained to be the consensus candidate, so their intentions in this case is certainly not as honourable as they are making it out to be.

Jonathan is currently the President, he does not have to devalue himself by doing a pdp primaries debate, I am pretty certain Obama will not partake in any sort of Democratic party presidential primaries debate in 2012!
Re: Atiku Challenges Jonathan To Debate by Theblessed(f): 6:49pm On Dec 27, 2010
[b]It seems this Atiku has no ears - how many more time shall we tell him, there's nothing to debate that would make any difference to their evil control and management of Nigeria and its politics.

A man whose hands are not clean is even calling for democracy he does not believe in, can not respect let alone uphold. You only have to look at his track record to realise, his 'selfish and wicked' political ambitions for Nigeria. To that we say - no, thank you Mr Atiku, we've had enough of you and your kind!

All the time you've been willy dealy with Nigerian politics alongside your brothers, you never called for this and now, crook? Over 40years now, Nigeria has been controlled and managed by your brothers - there's nothing to show for it rather, abject poverty and suffering among Nigerian whilst you and your brothers swim in luxury - judge yourselves!

If one man alone (in the person of Prophet T. B Joshua) is doing what the whole world is watching and applauding and praising God for picking him out of many millionaires, billionaires and trillionaires Nigeria has, to do what he's doing for the poor, the widows, the orphans, the physically challenged and scholarship granted to children who had no chance or hope of education in Nigeria and he continues to do so without complaining - why can't you all losers?

You stole our money and subject Nigerians into poverty and suffering - why can't you? angry Abeg Mr Atiku, don't get me mad! Stop harassing us, Nigeria is not yet matured for this your idea. She might be ready maybe, by 2035 if you could wait then, your dream could materialise.

Now, you want to make us run before we could walk - thank you, na lie be that and there's never gonna be any debate because, Nigerians are tired of your peoples backward leadership, gorit? Just, go and rest and never again, utter that word 'Debate'!

So Jonathan telling Nigerians what he stands for and defending his record will devalue him abi? Does this reasoning have anything to do with the fact that Jonathan might not actually know what to say?

The argument you guys come up with don't make a lot of sense at all. This is not about Atiku or Jonathan. This is about the future of democracy in Nigeria. If Jonathan is truly head and shoulders abouve atiku on anything he will certainly demonstrate that at the debate from the way he will articulate his points at the debate.

There is no sensible excuse to avoid this debate. The President of Nigeria in the digital age should not be scared about debates with anybody. As a matter of fact by now Jonathan is supposed to have done some serious press confrences and allow himself to be cross-examined by the media.

How is GEJ's last 10months different from Yar'adua's last 3years? NO difference.

Except that Jonathan managed to hire a 23yr old to update his facebook page every morning. Nothing else. What a shame.

The future of Nigeria is surely bleak, if our youths think so selfishly.

I think a PhD holder debating woith a "one of the worst thieves, perverts, masters of double-speak and political somersault around" would be the easiest thing to do.

He should just bring the fact that exposes Atiku and Case closed.

Imagine if Obama has facts that McCain is "one of the worst thieves, perverts, masters of double-speak and political somersault around" Wont that be the easist debate?
