Listening to Chief Ebenezer Obey's track: "ko sogbon to le da, ko siwa to le wu, ko sona to le gba, to lefi ta'iye lorun oh!" I wonder what the arguement would have looked like today if we are online talking about how things has gone from bad to worse for a 'gospel general' who could not afford to send his children to good school. I knew way back in 1984 when this man sold all he had to start a church in KADUNA. Where were all of u poke-nose then, some of u were not even born yet. 26 years gone and you expect the man to still be "suffering" for the gospel. If he were your uncle, father or senior brother, I ask you; will you come here to say he is achieve too much or getting too rich in his work? My candid advice: if you feel that any of your pastors are taking too much of your money, then stop paying your tithe and offering. when the 'task-master' come calling, I bet you, that you will wish you had let go. And as for those of you defending him, why wasting your time. It will be wise too for the church of God (leaders) to learn from some of these critics, as the adage goes that says: even fool sometimes speaks wise words. |

:@ STILLDUDE PLS don't go away. The point of a debate is to learn and exchange ideas. Or do you want to be like our beloved president and debate yourself. You are being too emotive on this issue and i understand, Since he is your Father. You have to acknowldge that sometimes our fathers do wrong, and if you can't correct your Father then you are just living a lie. By the way, I am not jobless, the nature of my Job permit me the time and luxury to write and learn on the internet, including forums. Good to know youu changed your life for good, I'm genuinly happy for you. But you need to realise people have various views and the only way we can all learn and progress is by being honest with ourselves. You are the one that said he has sold millions of books "world wide" Yet you talk about Africa's qualitative Data collection. Africa and World wide are two different things. Pls stildude, the jets that you said is procured for the church for specific assignments, how do they impact the average member of the church? What need does these jets meet for the average member or to yourself. Pls dont say to spread the Gospel, when did the word of God need jets to help spread the gospel? Don't you feel the word should be strong enough to spread the gospel. Having an education does not mean wisdom or intelligence. The issue here is what is right and what is wrong. I think you attach to much emotion to the Man. And you forget he is Human just like you and I. Only God deserves our utmost and undoubted love and affection (am not an atheist). I'm only a realist. You said there are centres in most countries of the world. Even in Predominatly muslem countrie. So he has centres in Afghanistan. Iran, Iraq, Indonesia, Pakistan, UZbeskistan, Malaysia, Egypt, Tunisia, Libya, Yemen, Kazastan, somalia, jordan, Chad, Barhian, UAE, bangladesh and many others So you are telling me these dudes knows about Oyedepo ,talkless of having his book in their homes. Stildude please GET REAL. Seems Oyedepo is the one thinking for you. I can diss anyone that i like, I am an individual with my own mind. It's only God that is incorruptible. Your Man of God is a Fraud. Pls somebody go to somalia or eritrea and ask if they know Bishop Oyedepo. DUDE EXPOSE YOURSELF TO THE REALITIES OF THE WORLD |

@Stilldude, you said I was also one time, a member of the cult! - of Africa AKA Confranternity My guy, you jumped from frying pan to fire. By the way, I am a christian. I do not have to support 419 charlatans to prove my christianity. |

@stilldude You must be living in mortal fear of one affliction or the other since you believe that all afflictions come from the devil and must be solved by the church! In this time and age? This is one of the reasons why so many developing countries are wallowing in penury - poverty of the mind. Even if you have a headache after a hard day's work, it's the devil and it's the church that must give you 'Panadol'. |
Re: Bishop Oyedepo Acquires Yet Another N4.5b Private Jet by Delafruita(m): 12:44pm On Apr 12, 2011 |
@stilldude its a good thing that you have chosen to renoune those ways and embraced a better, fulfilling life.its also a good thing that you have thought it necessary to defend your pastor in the face of stiff criticism from "ungodly" elements.however your post has a lot of inconsistencies and it has left me clueless as to what the real point is.you talked about his books been bought by everybody in your church, thats impossible.even if that were true, lets assume ou have one million members worldwide, one book sells for #100,all members buy it,that brings the total to about #100,000,000.but you seem not to realise that there is a cost of production involved.lets assume cost of #80 per book, profit on it is #20 translating to #20,000,000 if all members buy the book.same parameter applies for all his books and other materials no matter the price.do you realise how many books he will have to sell to buy a jet talkless of four?besides the books are meant to be for spiritual growth of members not for personal gains of the pastor so i wonder why a pastor should write a book to make a profit. You talked about the jet been used to propagate the gospel,my brother, what's wrong with flying commercial airlines to foreign crusade?over his entire lifetime,he cannot spend that amount on plane tickets especially in this frequent flyer era.besides he has 4 jets. I said it in an ealier post that such money could have been used to create a fund where unemployed/widows /orphans who are church members can access a sort of monthly salary, health centres could be built in every branch of the church, the church could grant a specific number of slots to every branch for a specific number of poor youths to attend their university(since they also contibuted to it through tithes and offerings).there are many things they can do to improve the quality of lives of "devoted" members but somehow they choose not to. Someone said keneth copeland gives jets as gifts,is that a wise use of money?do you know how many kids in darfur would be fed with such money?the so called sin propagators of this world i.e. Celebrities have done much better for his world than many of our pious pastors.we see george clooney in darfur, sean penn permanently living in port au prince along with wyclef, angelina jolie going round the world, jennifer aniston aiding cancer research, late liz taylor advocating for AIDS patients etc but we see our "pastors" buying jets and making their primary focus prosperity.how many souls are really "saved" at your pastor's crusade because they are scared of hell?the reason most answer altar calls is because they are told that the way to be rich is to answer the altar call.thats why many answer altar call on sunday and backslide on monday.the focus is now on money, kudi, ego, owo, cash and no longer on spiritual growth.if the pastor of my church buys a jet from his salary,no qualms, but since i know its impossible,if he does it,i'd say this same things. Aside from buying the jet,do you know how much will be spent on maintenance, hangar management, licensin etc, dude thats enough to set up at least 5000 of his church members for life.ekiti state monthly allocation is about 1.4billion and they use it to pay salaries of workforce, build roads etc.so your church thinks it makes sense to spend an amount equivalent to the livelihood of an entire state for 3months on a jet?aliko dangote had to sell his first jet before buying another one because according to him the cost of maintenance is equivalent to the profit on 3,000,000 bags od cement per day. Why can't more pastors be like T.B. Joshua?poverty will reduce in christendom |

@Olumogun, you said I knew way back in 1984 when this man sold all he had to start a church in KADUNA. When people wonder why Africa is the way it is - this is why. So politicians who invest all their money in elections and then proceed to loot the treasury should be encouraged abi ? St*pid talk!! |
Re: Bishop Oyedepo Acquires Yet Another N4.5b Private Jet by dare2think: 12:53pm On Apr 12, 2011 |
Olumogun: You must feel pleased with yourself for writing this senseless stuff. So, since he sold his car, and devoted 26 yrs to the ministry, he can spend the ministries money as he likes? Is it a business? Your regressive mind is among the ills of Africa. |
Re: Bishop Oyedepo Acquires Yet Another N4.5b Private Jet by Delafruita(m): 1:05pm On Apr 12, 2011 |
@olumogun.what sort of an analogy is that?so because the man sold his things to start a church,he can spend the reveniue anyway he likes.even when a person starts a company,he can be sacked from his own company if he mismanages funds or for something else.a good example was steve jobs been sacked from apple before been recalled in 2001.if truly your pastor was called into the service of the lord,he would have no qualms selling all he has for the work of God.but nowadays, pastors know that the fastest way to get members to sell all they have and bring the proceeds to church is to do it first. |
Re: Bishop Oyedepo Acquires Yet Another N4.5b Private Jet by Nobody: 1:08pm On Apr 12, 2011 |
Bishop Oyedepo says God appeared to him in a vision and told him, "It's time to get the aircraft." You cannot disprove that neither can you prove that he is telling da truth. Entirely subjective. He says God talks to him and gives him specific instructions on what to do. Majority of his followers believe him; but like they say, when you talk to God, it is called prayer, when God talks to you, it is called schizophrenia. Perhaps he is in the latter stages of that terrible condition, perhaps not. Who knows? |

Re: Bishop Oyedepo Acquires Yet Another N4.5b Private Jet by dare2think: 1:17pm On Apr 12, 2011 |
phxc: Very True, Entirely subjective. Bu you have to wonder. How would /could God tell his servant "It's time to get the aircraft" and forget to tell him about the people in need across the Globe. Has this same God forgotten about their plight? Or are these unfortunate ppl Devil's children. You just have to wonder the discussions btw these men of God and God? |

dare2think: Not men of God but self proclaimed men of God, that too is subjective. Afterall, we weren't told by God that they are his men, but rather the men themselves told us that God told them they are his men. The most convincing ones got many followers, the least convncing are now into another line of business. |

Bishop Oyedepo Acquires Yet Another N4.5b Private Jet And Our Lord Jesus rode a donkey. Yes, He entered Jerusalem to meet the multitudes and crowds not on a thoroughbred stallion or on a horse-drawn carriage, not carried in a royal chamber or riding a chariot with horses, but on a simple DONKEY!! Our Lord Jesus Christ preached against storing up worldly things for yourself. And he showed this with his own actions. No one can serve God and Mammon. Please beware people. Use the mind God gave you and do not be blinded. In this generation, some are Men of God, some are Men of Mammon and some are Men of Mammon pretending to be Men of God. And by their fruits you shall know them. Please look at what you know about a Man of God and ask yourself this question: Are the fruits I am seeing fruits of God or fruits of Mammon? He who has ears |

@dare2think I am cool. My post never support acquisition of 4 jets. one is even explainable, two is fair but four is a way too much. I would have been more pleased to hear that one of the church leaders in this country acquired land and built a 1000 or more units of low-cost houses to ease the burden of some of their members. That will better the society and help a lots of families. However, there should be a more mature way for NAIRALANDERS to begin to argue issues and help correct some things in the society than cursing and fighting one another. shalom. |

Olumogun:So the reasoin for giving all he had was because he expected God to reward him here on earth financially? In what ways would God reward Jesus Christ who gave all including his life to save the world? I know of many people who have given all they had by listening to these seed sow pastors who today re regretting why they sowed to what God never told them to do. In what ways would God reward Bill Gates who assumed to be an Atheist and gave more than half of his wealth to save the sick and poor all over the world and Nigeria inclusive,,,Bill has spent several billons of dollars to eradicate polio in Northern Nigeria and has visited Nigeria several times to see the progress work done in the polio foundation he has in Nigeria and other African Nations,,,,(Bill has just one private Jet),,,The truth why these pastors re shamelessly doing what they re doing is because the Bible has to be fulfilled,,,we live in an age where there false prophets and pastors,,,if we don't have false prophets and pastors,,hw can God's word be fulfilled? |

Re: Bishop Oyedepo Acquires Yet Another N4.5b Private Jet by Nobody: 2:08pm On Apr 12, 2011 |
Grey Beard: Yeah but there're some people that would argue that a donkey was the biggest most expensive means of transport in those days, therefore, the Bishop is justified in acquiring jets for the propagation of the gospel. Jesus in the bible was opposed to worldly wealth and extravagance but a lot of people will tell you he was a great business tycoon and advertiser. |

Re: Bishop Oyedepo Acquires Yet Another N4.5b Private Jet by Nobody: 3:02pm On Apr 12, 2011 |
@DeepSight I've heard the Bishop say, "Jesus was so wealthy he even had his own treasury secretary (Judas), didn't have to beg for food, never lacked where to sleep, and paid his taxes promptly. Therefore, emulate Jesus and be a standard of prosperity." He would even say that Jesus was so rich he ddn't hav to walk to Jerusalem but rode on an ass. Point is while in the scriptures, Jesus is depicted as an ascetic, the prosperity preachers today have turned him into something else, that's why owning 4 jets means nothing to him, he's only emulating Christ the master in letting your light shine before men. |

It is WICKED to be buying 4 planes in the midst of so much poverty. Maybe you should have read the article first before you started typing. I dont go to his church so he is not stealing my money but there are vulnerable people that do and they need to be protected. |
