Re: Glory To Jesus, Honour To Mary! All The Real Catholics Please Stand Up! by Carlosein(m): 6:26pm On Dec 04, 2007
alright everybody, me i "am" undecided a legionary and i also teach catechism in an outstation. i used to be in the block rosary crusade but haven't been finding time to be with those wonderful rosarian group though i don't miss my daily rosary for any reason.

as for the legion of mary, i have not attended a meeting in a while now due to the fact that the outstation where i have my praesidium had the mass changed to 6a.m while there is a closer parish to me where the mass is 6.15am. so i attend the closer church and then go to the outstation for catechism later in the day. but that means i have to miss the meeting.

when i saw ebos asking for societies, i asked my president to upgrade my memberhip to auxiliary rank and maybe adjutorian if possible. but he is yet to work out the modalities for that.

now that i have answered my jamb "kweshuns", any rejoinders?

MEDITATION OF THE DAY
Let the upright nation come in, she, the faithful one. (Isaiah 26:1-6)

Isaiah spoke of the joyful day when the Israelites would return from exile. On that day, God's promises were to b fulfilled: enemies would be defeated, perfect peace would reign, and truthfulness would be revealed. The city of God would stand strong and invincible, protecting those who lived within its walls. In Jesus, Isaiah's prophetic words came to pass. Through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, satan-the ancient enemy of all God's people was defeated. Jesus trampled underfoot all our adversaries, thus enabling us to experience his peace and protection. Jesus said, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life" (John 14:6); he is the "everlasting rock" (Is 26:4). Through belief in Jesus Christ we become strong and invincible like Isaish's city of God. Those who do not accept the truth of Jesus lack this knowledge and thus lack the fullness of his peace and protection. How can you prepare to meet Jesus this Advent? How can you experience his power? Look honestly into your heart and examine your faith: Do you believe that God can work in your life? Do your problems seem too impossible for God to handle? Most of us would have to confess that we often put little faith in God's promises. Even so, Jesus does not condemn us. He said, "If you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you could say to this sycamine tree, 'Be rooted up, and be planted in the sea, 'and it would obey you" (Luke 17:6). Let us turn to the Lord and place our trust in him. No matter how feeble we may feel our faith is, let us open our hearts to the Lord and receive his abundant grace.

PRAYER
Lord Jesus, we turn to you, knowing our faith is weak and that we often fail to trust in you. We repent for the many times when we have not believed in your word. Come into our hearts this Advent and fill us with the hope and joy the scriptures promise. In faith we proclaim that you are the way, and the truth, and the life." Amen.

JOURNEY WITH THE SAINTS
We should always observe Advent with faith and love, offering praise and thanksgiving to the Father for the mercy and love he has shown us in this mystery. ST. CHARLES BORROMEO

@lawyer,

lawyer:

How did you guys manage to ward of all those anti catholic bashers? These few days without them, has provided a serene environment for catholics to enjoy these thread peacefully and spiritually and it actually underscores the object of this post.

What made you think your Catholic brethren must have performed some sort of Catholic rites to "ward off" any contributor to this thread? The typical thing with deception is that is adherents are too scared to face up to the truth presented to them - and even in the face of incontrovertible evidence, Catholics usually cry that it is all a matter of "anti-catholic bashing". grin

Real men don't boo-hoo like that. They square up to facts presented and do more in their lives to live by God's WORD, rather than excuse their dishonest stance in order to continue in their self-made legerdemain.

lawyer:

It is totally devoid of all those irritating insults in the guise of advise and condemnations which the catholic doctrine preaches against.

Medicine after death! grin We all know that the Catholic Church is trying to put on a mascara over her deception. Your Pope didn't remember that preach against your complaints when he denounced non-Catholics; nor has the history of the RCC been botched over the fact that millions were murdered for not holding the doctrines of the Vatican!

lawyer:

Well done to you guys and keep the banner flying. Enjoying you guys all the way every moment i log on

Be careful what you celebrate! You will give account of every deception you applaud on earth. smiley

yesterday in church, our Father said something that really touched me . . . .

He was asking why Christmas that is supposed to be celebrated in holiness and reconciliation be a period for all sorts of evil
some of us do unthinkable things to acquire fortune,
we list new caras, cloths, house renovation as necessities for good xmas
no provision is made for that special person that we are expecting.
sexual immorality is always at it's peak . . . . . .
Cost of living will shoot up, traders aim to make incredible profits
pple aim to exploit ours in the name of xmas. . . . . . .
some families actually quarrell at this period. . . . . . . . .

this actually got me thinkn
it is absolutely spot on. . . . .

during lent, some of us take out time to reflect and do retreat but xmas is always treated differently

the sermon meant a lot to me and i thought i will share it with us all
after the sermon, there was a sort of calmness in the church, i was sure individually, we were all touched.

i can't repeat word for word what the Father said but, i hope whoever reads this will feel that calmness we all felt yesterday

may it bear friut in us all.

let me help with the Saint of the day

Blessed Adolph Kolping

(1813-1865)

The rise of the factory system in 19th-century Germany brought many single men into cities where they faced new challenges to their faith. Father Adolph Kolping began a ministry to them, hoping that they would not be lost to the Catholic faith as was happening to workers elsewhere in industrialized Europe.
Born in the village of Kerpen, Adolph became a shoemaker at an early age because of his family’s economic situation. Ordained in 1845, he ministered to young workers in Cologne, establishing a choir, which by 1849 had grown into the Young Workmen’s Society. A branch of this began in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1856. Nine years later there were over 400 Gesellenvereine (workman’s societies) around the world. Today this group has over 400,000 members in 54 countries across the globe.
More commonly called the Kolping Society, it emphasizes the sanctification of family life and the dignity of labor. Father Kolping worked to improve conditions for workers and greatly assisted those in need. He and St. John Bosco in Turin had similar interests in working with young men in big cities. He told his followers, “The needs of the times will teach you what to do.
”Father Kolping once said, “The first thing that a person finds in life and the last to which he holds out his hand, and the most precious that he possess, even if he does not realize it, is family life.”
He and Blessed John Duns Scotus are buried in Cologne’s Minoritenkirche, served by the Conventual Franciscans. The Kolping Society’s international headquarters is at this church.
Kolping members journeyed to Rome from Europe, America, Africa, Asia and Oceania for Father Kolping’s beatification in 1991, the 100th anniversary of Pope Leo XIII’s revolutionary encyclical Rerum Novarum (On the Social Order). Father Kolping’s personal witness and apostolate helped prepare for that encyclical.

some lovely qoutes for this season. .  . .  . .

"Man's value before God is estimated by the dispositions of his heart, its uprightness, its good-will, its charity, and not by keenness of intellect or extent of knowledge."
~Bl. Anne Catherine Emmerich

"I no longer have a heart; I gave it to Jesus' Mom."

~ St. Gemma Galgani

When we have to reply to anyone who has insulted us, we should be careful to do it always with gentleness. A soft answer extinguishes the fire of wrath.

~St. Alphonsus Liguori

The Church teaches us that mercy belongs to God. Let us implore Him to bestow on us the spirit of mercy and compassion, so that we are filled with it and may never lose it. Only consider how much we ourselves are in need of mercy.

--Saint Vincent de Paul
Re: Glory To Jesus, Honour To Mary! All The Real Catholics Please Stand Up! by viee(f): 12:23pm On Dec 11, 2007
today's saint:

ST. DAMASUS I

Damasus was born in Rome and lived in the fourth century-exciting times for the Church. He was a priest who was generous and self-sacrificing. When Pope Liberius died in 366, Damasus became the pope. He faced many grave difficulties. There was a false pope named Felix. He and his followers persecuted Damasus. They lied about him, especially about his personal moral life. The pope had to stand trial before the Roman authorities. He was proved innocent, but he suffered very much through it all. His great friend, St. Jerome, spoke emphatically for the virtue of this pope. And Jerome had high standards. Pope Damasus realized that the city clergy were living too wealthy a lifestyle. The country priests were much more austere. Damasus asked the priests to simplify their lifestyles and not to accumulate money and possessions. He set a wonderful example himself.
There were also many false teachings during his time as pope. Damasus explained the true faith. He also called the Second Ecumenical Council which was held in Constantinople. Pope Damasus greatly encouraged love of the scriptures. He assigned St. Jerome to translate the Bible into Latin. He also changed the official language of the liturgy from Greek-except for the Kyrie-to Latin.
Pope St. Damasus died at the age of about eighty on December 11, 384. He was buried with his mother and sister in a little chapel he had built.

Pope Damasus suffered much from false accusations. How often do I give others the benefit of the doubt?

Infact we are having a great Retreat that just started yesterday, and the presiding priest gave a very powerful talk, that got so many people shedding tears. @pilgrim

Medicine after death! We all know that the Catholic Church is trying to put on a mascara over her deception. Your Pope didn't remember that preach against your complaints when he denounced non-Catholics; nor has the history of the RCC been botched over the fact that millions were murdered for not holding the doctrines of the Vatican!

Have you guys noticed that this statement has been said over 2 million times by pilgrim grin The fact that people on this thread keep on ignoring her makes her use this statement over and over again that is beginning to sound like an c.d scratching after playing it continously grin. Imagine i made a comment on how this thread was able to keep it serene for most catholics to communicate alone and it has been devoid of insults and foolish talk and behold, 2 weeks later pilgrim wakes up from her slumber and decides that this thread is too peaceful and controversy needs to be stirred up again and we need to go back to those old accusations that makes her hormones jump up with joy.

The best answer given to pilgrim has to go to viee for this comment
as we were saying

grin, beautiful answer, well done! The ignore treatment is doing wonders. Funny enough, i think pilgrim has a fetish and crush on popes. Listen to her most of the time, after 3 words, the acroynm "pope does this" or "pope does that" fills her vocabulary immediately grin. You dream, sleep, eat and think of the pope all day, sorry to break your tootsie dear, the pope aint interested in you grin

Be careful what you celebrate! You will give account of every deception you applaud on earth.

Kettle calling pot black! grin

Meanwhile viee, i used to attend st. mary's catholic church isolo for almost 20 something years before i moved from isolo. I was there when it was just like all those jakande schools buildings around the 80's to the imposing edifice it is now. Once in a while i go there but funny enough for the last 10 years i have been shuffling between st. mary's and holy family festac every newyear midnight mass to start the newyear in the favour of God's eyes. Last year was st. mary but maybe this year is holy family cos i also grew up in festac. Maybe you can convince me to come back to st. mary this year for the midnight mass, lol, Would also be a good chance to finally hook up with someone on nairaland for a change face to face.

Today's Feast

Our Lady of Guadalupe

The feast in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe goes back to the sixteenth century. Chronicles of that period tell us the story.
A poor Indian named Cuauhtlatohuac was baptized and given the name Juan Diego. He was a 57-year-old widower and lived in a small village near Mexico City. On Saturday morning, December 9, 1531, he was on his way to a nearby barrio to attend Mass in honor of Our Lady.

He was walking by a hill called Tepeyac when he heard beautiful music like the warbling of birds. A radiant cloud appeared and within it a young Native American maiden dressed like an Aztec princess. The lady spoke to him in his own language and sent him to the bishop of Mexico, a Franciscan named Juan de Zumarraga. The bishop was to build a chapel in the place where the lady appeared.

Eventually the bishop told Juan Diego to have the lady give him a sign. About this same time Juan Diego’s uncle became seriously ill. This led poor Diego to try to avoid the lady. The lady found Diego, nevertheless, assured him that his uncle would recover and provided roses for Juan to carry to the bishop in his cape or tilma.

When Juan Diego opened his tilma in the bishop’s presence, the roses fell to the ground and the bishop sank to his knees. On Juan Diego’s tilma appeared an image of Mary as she had appeared at the hill of Tepeyac. It was December 12, 1531.
