Why are we always quick to point fingers?

Obasanjo should remember that the issues with fuel subsidy didn't start today. Tinubu is trying to navigate through a maze of challenges left behind by previous administrations.

Instead of casting blame, let’s support the efforts to find a sustainable solution. We need to look at the bigger picture and give room for progress, no matter how slow it may seem.

What’s important is that we keep pushing for better policies and hold the government accountable, not just criticize from the sidelines.

Guy why are you deviating from your role? Why are you not mentioning Peter Obi name again? Have they cautioned you to stop? Please keep mentioning his name for more popularity and sympathy, we love it.

Why did Tinubu protest when GEJ wanted to navigate too? So, why are U guys mad that people are also doing to Tinubu what he did to others ? grin
He will never find it easy, people will do to him exactly what him and his team did to GEJ. If fuel subsidy was removed then, we have gone past it now as the world was relatively stable then.

“There’s a lot of work that needs to be done. Not just wake up one morning and say you removed the subsidy. Because of inflation, the subsidy that we have removed is not gone. It has come back,” Obasanjo said.
Obasanjo spoke to only those who have a higher sense of understanding than others.

Obj, is saying, the haste to remove, caused inflation that has brought it back again.
Can't you understand that the fuel subsidy is back again, despite Tinubu's denial that it has been removed and can't be restored again. Obj knows what he is saying please.

I suppose you think we should continue to borrow to pay subsidies? i suppose you think it is a good idea to continue to subsidize the wealthy to send their children abroad and banks workers to round trip the dollar?

Just answer this one question: considering that as at may 29 2023, 97% of all our revenue was earmarked for debt servicing, considering that a significant portion of our future crude production had been ring-fenced as payment had been collected in advance by the Buhari regime and spent, how do you propose we pay for the subsidy on petrol from the 3% left? dont forget 3% is at best $1b and subsidy was running on $6-10B a year? dont forget it is from this 3% (less than $1b) we will pay salaries of government workers, build roads, fund our schools and hospitals.

just answer this one question please....i eagerly await your response!

Obasanjo is playing politics. He is preaching what he did not practise during his regime

Between year 2000 and 2007, Obasanjo increased PMS price from N20 to N75. That's a 275% price increase. What he did is not different from what Tinubu did

History of PMS Increment under Obasanjo :

Obasanjo, June 1, 2000: N20 to N30 (50%)
Obasanjo, June 8, 2000: Petrol price reduced to N22 (-10%)
Obasanjo, January 1, 2002: N22 to N26 (18.18%)

Obasanjo, June to October, 2003: N26 to N42 (23.08%
Obasanjo, May 29, 2004: N50 (19.05%)
Obasanjo, August 25, 2004: N65 (30%)

Obasanjo is not casting any blame. He is only stating categorically that government is still paying fuel subsidy covertly. If you remember, it was disclosed earlier I the year that about a certain amount was spent on subsidy.

I am simply telling you the reality. You cannot spend what you do not have. If you are borrowing g to survive and collecting g urgent 20k from friends and family, eventually you will get to a point where friends and family don’t answer you and you have to adjust your life style or taking a demeaning job or do the unthinkable to survive.

That’s the reality of Nigeria. Wes re now faced with adjusting our lifestyle. Like it or not IMF or no IMF. There is no money to fund schools roads etc as well as fund forex Electricity and fuel subsidies. How we got here is immaterial, this is where we are!

Do you people understand what it means when they say we were spending 97% of all government revenue to pay our loans? Imagine if you had borrowed so much or lived a false life to the point that when you get your salary, 97% of it is used to pay your loans!! It means despite having a job you probably can’t even afford to eat!! Tinubu’s in 1 year has reduced that to 64%. That is why government workers can even receive salaries talk less increase in wages, that is why we can still embark on projects.

I really do t think you people u derstand that government finances had come to a stand still as at May 29. Nobody was answering our requests for urgent 20k anymore!!!

Maybe you dont know IMF has been bringing these same policies since the 80s.

I said name one country where it has brought prosperity.

I have answered you, now I hope you can answer me. Now that we have laid the IMF issue to rest, please tell me how you pay for subsidies?

I am waiting!!!!

I challenge you to answer because I know you cannot. it is easy to lie behind IMF this IMF that. I am no fan of IMF, if you have read my previous posts, I am anti-west but the reality is where is the money?? IMF or no IMF where is the money?

I am waiting for your answer Mr Deep! you cant answer that is why i said in my initial response to you, "this is where we are".

Simple! Everyone knows the bloated subsidy became a problem because of the stupendous corruption around it. Something that spiked from under 300 billion with GEJ to 7 trillion with PMB is a joke taken too far. Attack the corruption and NOT the poor.

Why is it till today he has not said pim about investigating subsiddy theives but he has a hard on to make the poor suffer for it right?

Secondly, you also do it in phases because that 200 per cent increase in the price of PMS in one day was a global record and NO ONE does that unless you are planning to mass murder your population through hunger. NO ONE.

On top of that, you immediately rush to devalue the naira and cause hyper-inflation. Whats that BS?

you have not answered the question and i dont expect you to because clearly you are ignorant or you have no understanding of the subject matter.

97% pf youir income is earmarked for debt servicing, meaning you have only 3% left which at best is $1b. how do you fund the government pay salaries, build roads, fund schools and hospitals etc and pay for a subsidy regime that will cost you at least $6b a year? let us even say $3b of the $6B is subsidy corruption, how do you tale $1b pay salaries, build schools, build roads, pay police, fund the army and then pay subsidy of $3b with this same $1b?

you have not answered o. it is easy to be an ignoramus and shout IMF and shout corruption, where is the money coming from? you are fumbling and hiding behind rhetoric, this is arithmetic, give me the figures.

Joker. If only three per cent of your income is available how do you have a 27 Trillion budget - and just a weeks ago, asked for a supplementary budget of N6+ trillion! What for? Now where do you get that supplementary money from? Guess what? They suddenly got creative - they made a provision to specially tax forex receipts of banks overnight!

Now that is JUST one thing they suddenly did in the last few weeks AFTER over a year of crying that there is no money for subsidy.

JUST ONE THING - JUST ONE METHOD.

You are the ignorant one if you dont know the massive means and options available to a sovereign government with polotical will.

You asked for one option, I have given you, but I could list ten.

You dont know jack, you dont have the capacity to think for yourself, you just eat up whatver govt says.

I am sure you dont even know that provision was made in the 2023 budget for subsidy up till the end of June but he yanked it in one hour. No one has asked what happened to that!

In as much as I was never in support of subsidy payment, I faulted the policy on one important ground... whenever a surgeon wants to operate on a patient, he invites an anaesthetist who applies an anaesthetic agent to relieve the patient of the pain. The drug would have been available before the operations starts, not during or after the operation else, the patient will feel discomforts and may eventually be traumatised and die in the process due to an unbearable pain.

In Angola, subsidy was removed but gradually, are you aware? They also have crude like Nigeria. Before this was done, just like what Jonathan did in his term, enough palliatives had been put in place. That's why Angola isn't crying today as Nigeria over hardship. Energy is every nation's livewire. It affects every sector and the masses always bear the consequences cos politicians don't care. They spend public funds.

When Jonathan was going to remove subsidy, he had already provided palliatives. I remember the Sure-P programme and what it had achieved. I remember those buses he reeled out and other incentives, including drugs and equipment in hospitals to alleviate the sufferings the removal could bring.

Tinubu came on board and said, subsidy is gone! But without any palliatives in place. That's why Nigerians are crying today. It's like sending your child to school and say have a nice day my son, without giving him breakfast and lunch pack, and you expect him to concentrate in his studies?. Tinubu placed the cart before the horse and that alone was disappointing as someone who claimed to be prepared for the job. Here in lagos, you can unleash some propaganda and get away with it, not at the national or federal level. You'd be caught in no time cos everyone can't be on your side always. We are a vast nation with nearly 400 ethnicities.

Removing subsidy without the palliatives in place was like unleashing suffering on the masses deliberately. It's not done anywhere. Since he knew buhari didn't make any provision for subsidy payment in the 2024 budget, why not prepare a supplementary budget on palliatives and seek express approval so the masses wouldn't feel the effect of subsidy removal? It's been over one year in office yet, no palliatives in place. Instead all we hear is purchase of presidential yacht and new jets when he can repair all the fleets we had for less. The masses will get sense someday. For your information, they now pay subsidy in trillions due to inflation so, subsidy is back as they now pay even more. The naira he floated was another disaster. No caring leader does that. Subsidy and naira floating are the reasons for our economic woes today. This only favoured the rich as they declared billions in stocks gains.

Go to other African countries, they're not so badly hit. We're supposed to be the one sending aids to them due to our position in African, which we have lost already

Nigerians are really patient.

It's just a shame that the do called protesters don't have a decisive direction of what will make their protest effective, isn't this kind of baba they needed to gauge and made him realize that had it been he had done what needed to be done especially by him who had several opportunities to make Nigeria a Dubai worth, the issue of hastiness in removing subsidy won't arise.

Of course baba may have been thinking in a retrogressive manner, the myopic nature of our youth won't make them a better ones.
