The Nigerian Army has confirmed the arrest of its personnel who gunned down a 16-year-old boy, Ismail Mohammed during the ongoing EndBadGovernance protest in Kaduna State.

DAILY POST reports that the young boy was killed on Tuesday when the troops of the Nigerian army stormed the Samaru community in Zaria to despers the protesters.

The security operatives were enforcing a curfew earlier imposed on the ancient city by the Kaduna State Government.

Confirming the incident, the NA in a statement issued on Tuesday night by its spokesperson, Onyema Nwachukwu said the officer responsible for the incident has been arrested.

The statement reads, “on 6 August 2024, troops of the Nigerian Army received a distress call that some hoodlums gathered in Samaru in large numbers, burning tires on the road and pelting stones on security personnel.

“The troops immediately mobilised and arrived at the scene to disperse the mob and enforce the curfew imposed by the State Government.

“On arrival at the scene, the hoodlums brazenly attempted attacking the troops prompting a soldier to fire a warning shot to scare the hoodlums away, which unfortunately led to the death of a 16-year-old boy, Ismail Mohammed.

“The soldier involved has since been arrested and undergoing interrogation as at the time of this report”.

When you find yourself in the middle of a rowdy meeting, keeping silent and observing the goings-on can work wonders.
Not participating in this protest has done wonders for Igbo.
Now, we can see clearly ALL angles to the problem.
Staying out of this protest may prove to be Igbo best political move in decades.
Who knew that a Nigerian soldier can be arrested or even questioned for gunning down a protesting youth? A practice that is the norm in the East?
Well now you know!
We still dey Looku and Laafu.

When you attacked armed security officers, you are not an "innocent peaceful protester"

You become a willing participant in an armed conflict.

Officers have the same right to live and security as protesters, if you as protesters want to attack them, they have the right to self-defence.

From the account up their (if true) nothing will happen. The officer will only be redeployed.

Same thing happens with American police officers and citizens. If you attack them, they will respond

Why arresting him? He just shot a violent protester that's all. It doesn't matter the age, violence begets violence everywhere anytime

What many do not know is that the Nigerian army and other military agencies in Nigeria are constitutional required not to obey unlawful orders, even if it's coming from the president.

No security operative will be spared if they gun down any Nigerian exercising their right of freedom to assemble.

The officers name has been confirmed as Adewale Ayuba

Tinubu this is not fair to the north.

Yoruba soldiers are at the same time raping and touching the breasts of married Muslim women. This is not fair.

Till the Nigerian Government starts taking accountability for their actions, the fear of masses uprising will always be a thing.Hence the use of the army to intimidate poor protesters.
I thought the Nigerian Police has loads of departments apart from the once we see on the roads, why can’t they be used to control protesters.
