Hey! Fellow Nairalanders, its high time we start our own community of graphic design. Where we can organize exhibitions, competitions and share ideas in forms of tutorials, criticism and help each other. A community wher Africans in particular can prove they are creative, especially in this era of globalization.

Join us in this forum http://graphicspalace.com/forum to make that move.

Black is Creative!

Hi everyone, Quite impress with the works av seen here. I also play around in Maya, but will need help with character Animation. Anyone willing to share his or her animation secrets with me?. Will appreciate it.
Re: 2d/3d Art Gallery by melvi: 3:18pm On Dec 02, 2009
Hi Linclon,

In using Maya,u have to learn how to rig and paint skin weights and make use of curves as riggers.For animation, learn how to set keyframes.I would have suggested using the Trax Editor.Its a great tool as it makes animation easier but I think it will be more beneficial if u start with the tutorials in the help file that comes with the Maya installation first.It contains a lot of information on animation basics among other useful stuff.

Best of luck.Keep it up.
Re: 2d/3d Art Gallery by linclon(f): 4:38pm On Dec 02, 2009
@ Melvi
Thanks for your prompt reply. I do understand the basics of animation, the keyframing and Inverse kinematics. Its just that my character animation is not smooth and when I give it a cycle with offset. The result isnt impressive.

I do know how to rig, but the paint skin weights is still a problem for me.

I need go tutorials to help with advance character animation.

Do u know how to use the Graph Editor?If your animation isn't running smoothly,the animation curves in the Graph editor may be too linear or steep,and some points/tangents may need to be flattened.Get familiar with the Graph Editor and Trax Editor.They may look complicated but they really help a lot in that aspect.

@linclon
Depending on your method of animation, if you are using pose-to-pose animation, make sure each pose has the proper outline.The work on the interpolation b/w each pose using the graph editor. You may also need to adjust the timing of your animation. But really, you need to upload a sample of your animation. That way one can easily assertain what is wrong with your animation.
Re: 2d/3d Art Gallery by linclon(f): 11:22am On Dec 04, 2009
@Aphek

Thanks for your suggestions, Will work on the interpolation and give u a feed back on my progress. Unfortunately, I can't upload the animation file online due to the size.

Hey Kemjsuper, that's a really cool work. Maybe I could work with you guy sometime. You and grafiksdon. I got some real real big projects - 2d animation. But the only problem is that I'm still a student who sadly isn't studying graphics. That's a story on its own. It might take a couple of years. undecided. But I'll still do it.
