The present is actually a sweet spot for women, right now you get to have it both ways. All the rights of a man, but society still views you as it did in the past. I agree with you, what he said was dumb. I dont know why men like to pretend they were a privileged class, with women waiting on them hand and foot. But i shouldn't have to tell you that this was not the case. In a steriotypical patriarchy the man works all day out side of the home, while to woman works inside the home. When the man returns from labor he is presumably tired and should not be expected to do housework.

From the industrial revolution onwards females got a far better deal out of patriarchy then men did. Around that time it became unacceptable for a middle class married woman to do any sort of hard physical labor, meanwhile home keeping and child raising was becoming much easier. Microwaves, refrigerators, mandatory schooling etc. By the 1950's a stay at home wife was basically a glorified mooch
