^^^ On one hand it's good that across the nation airports are being upgraded from embarassing to 1999 standard. Of course no one is going to probe all the contracts over the years and portfolio's of leaders and ministers that did nothing during their tenure. I digress... But in 2013, for a new abi remodeled airport, whether domestic or international, this airport looks like a cheap drink. |

CFCfan: ^^^Chelsea-fan, as per your earlier post: The cost is 13 billion and not 3 billion; though i still think that's on the small side.....but let's wait and see the magic the Chinese will pull off after construction. And if Enugu hopes to put itself on the world map, nothing short of a 5-star hotel/golf resort would do; anything worth doing is worth doing well. Any business savy individual/consortium would have a goldmine on their hands as it would soon have a strong gravitational pull for all social/business/corporate events in the south east. 1 Like |

IGBO-SON: Thanks for the correction. You're on point, concerning the relatively cheap price tag; Akwa Ibom's international terminal will cost over N18 billion. As for the hotel, I was just saying that a 3 or 4-star airport hotel, where transit passengers can cool off, would be ideal. The airport hotel, as obtained in other parts of the world, doesn't need to be too fancy. Of course, the 5-star hotels can be built in the city |

CFCfan: Intelligent investors among you guys should be taking positions now. Like me, I am searching for plots around this airport, Emene, Nike and Ugwuomu for purchase. This whole area is going to witness the kind of boom never seen before in the east. I am digging up info about plots for sale around there. Hotels, malls, entertainment centers and sports facilities will sell very well here. I am looking to partner with good investors, I am on the grounds already but dont have much capital. I will only be picking the distant ones in the price range of N200-N300k. As a way of showing support for this project, I will be going to this airport monthly to update the construction pictures if I can get in freely. I am happy my city is going to identified on the world map finally. |

@ spyder880: We would appreciate ur pics of the airport. If I/m in Naija, I'll definitely look into investing in those areas, which are adjacent to the airport |

Wat do dey intend to do with the pillars at the entrance and exit to the airport? Dat was not in the original design. The roof is also altered. Why? Nigeria constuction engineers should follow model. haba! |

I bet all the Pammy bars @ Presidential Rd, Nike town ; politics-gossip bars all over Coal City State is agog with news about the impending New dawn in Enugu - flying oversees direct! An already expensive price of plots in my beloved town(Akpugo) will now reach it's peak. Coal City being the most cultured city in Igboland deserves to be our gateway to the world. I'm getting ready to export Enugu's fresh palmwine to European bars. Why not, it's a globalised world, baby! We're ready to take off.... 2 Likes |

The new international terminal will have a total floor area of 25,000 sq meters, and will also serve as the airport's cargo terminal. |

CFCfan: The new international terminal will have a total floor area of 25,000 sq meters, and will also serve as the airport's cargo terminal. So the pictures we're seeing aren't of the international airport? If not, do you have the info for the international terminal and where it is being built? |

ezeagu:The international terminal will be built close to the domestic terminal, and it will cost N13.3bn |

Once upon a time, there used to be a heavy traffic jam at Akwata road of coal camp, never again This is the completed portion of the road. Free flowing and smooth.

I also heard enugu is getting safe. maybe this might encourage other nigerians (yorubas, hausas etc) to finally come to the east to settle. it's igbos's turn to host their fellow nigerians. rather than vice versa. 1 Like |

These are renders i found for the new Enugu terminal building. They were done last year, so I don't know if they're still current. http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=i&rct=j&q=enugu+airport+design&source=images&cd=&cad=rja&docid=gH9CzfdoQI50VM&tbnid=xOedALmLsRVQeM:&ved=0CAMQjhw&url=http%3A%2F%2Farchiteamgroup.com%2Fgallery_akanuibiam_enugu_airport.html&ei=ecKjUaSsHq7y0gW2jYHgBQ&bvm=bv.47008514,d.d2k&psig=AFQjCNGHvxJlCvUtPn6S2IL8Aqi9MdzETw&ust=1369772294211914 1 Like

That model design looks quite futuristic! Coal City is damn lucky if it gets something like the model above, which in my opinion beats even the one currently in Abuja. |

c.fours:Firstly, Enugu is safer than the National average. Secondly, Enugu already hosts Nigerians from different parts of the country. But i would like to see more people move there. 2 Likes |
Re: Enugu, The Pride Of The East. by IGBOSON1: 11:16pm On May 27, 2013 |
@c.fours: i don't see Yorubas and Hausa/Fulanis moving down to Enugu in droves; and even if they do, they wouldn't invest in things that would broaden the economic base of the city and improve its IGR.....like investing in factories and real estate the way Igbos do in Lagos, Abuja and Kano. The best they would do if Enugu becomes an international city, would be to relocate there for paid jobs in companies, and they'd rent accommodation while living there. Does it really come as a surprise to you that Dangote has no factory located in the South East? |

CFCfan: @IGBOSON: I hope thats the model terminal that will be built. Its so fantastic!! ^^^I hope so too. I think Turkish Airlines is the 2nd airline that is considering serving Enugu int'l airport, going by the news story below. ********* ********* ********* ► NIGERIA: Turkish Airlines applies for Abuja & Kano; considers Enugu. Turkish Airlines (TK) has reportedly applied for clearance to the Nigerian Government for permission to start flights between Istanbul and Abuja, Kano and possibly Enugu according to news reports out of Nigeria. Should the routes be granted, they would be Turkish Airlines' second, third and fourth destinations in Nigeria after Lagos, which they have served since 2006. Chief Executive Officer and President of Turkish Airlines, Dr. Temel Kotil had this to say: “With its huge resources, Africa is the place to go. We want to expand our business in that continent. With her huge population and resources, we want to increase our flights to Nigeria. We want to fly into Abuja, Kano and Enugu.” http://www.theafricanaviationtribune.com/2012/07/nigeria-turkish-airlines-applies-for.html

I WILL SOON WRITE A LETTER TO SOUTH AFRICAN AIRWAYS TO APPLY FOR ENUGU. THEY MIGHT CONSIDER IT TOO WELL IF GOOD REASONS ARE PROVIDED AND IF MORE PEOPLE MAKE THE SAME REQUEST. BASICALLY, THEY WOULD MAKE GREAT GAINS SINCE SOUTH EAST DOMINATE VERY WELL HERE IN MZANZI. |
Re: Enugu, The Pride Of The East. by Abagworo(m): 7:58am On May 28, 2013 |
IGBO-SON: What do you think is the reason? There are many rich Northerners living in Southeast but none invests heavily there even though they make money. Could it be an impression of insecurity of investment or a conspiracy? |
Re: Enugu, The Pride Of The East. by Nobody: 8:00am On May 28, 2013 |
Abagworo: I think its more about clan-mentality. MOST Yorubas and Northerners prefer to invest heavily in their native lands or overseas than in other parts of Nigeria. Maybe they think if another civil war breaks out in Nigeria, they will lose all their investments. Just my guess though. |
