but we suffer delays here, unnecessarily.....
|
Re: Enugu, The Pride Of The East. by spyder880(m): 11:03pm On Jun 07, 2013 |
This is because the road around the tunnel crossing is damaged so much, causing traffic delays.

please, the authorities should look at this road before the rains make it much worse.

I'm impressed.....imagine if Chime had Abia or Imos' budget to work with! The man has my kind of eye for detail; but he should also remember maintenance of what has already been built as the roads he built about 4 years ago need some sprucing up. Also i hope those heaps of refuse in Enugu that i noticed about 3 months ago have all been cleared up. Thanks for the updates Spyder. |

bia, why do nigerians only photograph potholes? There are entire cities of 1 million plus in nigeria that don't have a single picture of the city it's self unless you want to see it's potholes. Onitcha Umuahia and Aba examples that come to mind. These are cities that are completely unknown to the nonnatives because of the strange photography culture in Nigeria. Even a place as beautiful as Bonny is completely un photographed, unless it's by white people. you guys are trying with Enugu, but please, you all have phones, you can do more. |

Ikengawo: if its not potholes they'll take a picture of traffic jam lolNigeria has refused to adhere to the wisdom of "a stitch in time saves nine" Well, its good someone is taking pictures of those small pot holes now and crying out! If Chime's people fail to take care of those small potholes now,the entire road will soon need major rehabilitation costing billions of Naira. 1 Like |

Enugu Virtual Streets to ease information access, stamp out touts – Commissioner Enugu State Government has announced the kick off of Enugu Virtual Streets, EVS. The commissioner for Lands, Survey, and Urban Development, Dr. Chukwuemeka Ujam, who disclosed this during a press briefing on the project, said the EVS is a land asset management system that would provide a comprehensive web and offline based geospatial business solution managing, serving and updating land information. Ujam stated that the project would help residents of the state as well as visitors to monitor assets and access specific information, stressing that it would also help in stamping out touting in land deals. He said: “To put it in perspective, if the people of xyz in Nsuka areas suddenly have no water and they are looking for the nearest boreholes, instead of walking around or sending children who should be going to school to be checking different areas, all they need do will be to send a text from their phone to the EVS system and it will reply with the closest boreholes in the area. “Another typical example will be if a stranger traveling through Enugu required the use of a bank-specific or type-specific ATM cash machine, the system would allow such a person to query it to locate such services, just as they would be able to a nearby hospital in an emergency”. “A very critical element of this system is the ability to track and monitor assets, invariably you will be able to view some key properties via the system just as if you were watching via CCTV. This will definitely also help in improving security in the state”, he added. The commissioner equally disclosed that a reputable transaction management company, Benjamin Knight Associates, had been engaged to formulate a workable system that would make the project a success. He outlined the specific features of the system upgrade to include- Enugu Township Street view with some in three dimensions, Enugu A-Z, similar to London A-Z, point of interest locations searches, land ownership registry, direction search, among others. Ujam expressed certainty that the project, when completed would “create a transparent database management system for property located within the state for the purpose of eradicating fraudulent or multiple transfer of property”. http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=enugu&source=newssearch&cd=8&cad=rja&ved=0CEQQqQIoADAH&url=http%3A%2F%2Fdailypost.com.ng%2F2013%2F06%2F06%2Fenugu-virtual-streets-to-ease-information-access-stamp-out-touts-commissioner%2F&ei=arezUezGHeax0AWLw4Bw&usg=AFQjCNEOoYtcVRcfyta7Y-PZLg9GJUIZnQ |

spyder880: no the enugu people lead the whole country except Lagos in taking pics of their environs. I can count the photos of places like Ilorin Benin City and Jos by hand and these cities are huge. I applaud the Enugu people because its only with Enugu and Lagos that this type of thread is possible. and when there is photography it's of potholes and trash heaps. Our leaders aren't yet enlightened enough to be online checking these things. |

Update: The new Enugu airport international terminal, and its facilities (air conditioners, generators, car park etc), will cost N12 billion. While the perishable cargo terminal will cost N1.3 billion. The international terminal is also going to have about 60 shops inside. This according to George Uriesi, the FAAN GM. |

Even a place as beautiful as Bonny is completely un photographed, unless it's by white people. The impression pictures give is more than a thousand words they say. Google(image) Aba or Onitsha and every picture you'll get is of potholes and refuse dump. We Igbos are giving a very bad impression of ourselves just because we want to criticize our Governors. The internet is accessed globally and those pictures are what non-natives believe is the look of Igbo cities. |
Re: Enugu, The Pride Of The East. by EASTSIDAZ: 8:59am On Jun 09, 2013 |
Abagworo: Must you mention any Anambra city each time you want to pass your negative comment? Why not use Aba and Owerre for your analysis? Or the bad side pix of Owerre as posted by okija juju cannot suffice? Btw most of those Onitsha pix you claim to be on google are from 10-15yrs old pix. Most of those places are reconstructed and cleaned up now. You alwys go looking for trouble you can't contain. |
Re: Enugu, The Pride Of The East. by IGBOSON1: 9:32am On Jun 09, 2013 |
EASTSIDAZ: ^^^There's some truth in what Abagworo posted. To save yourself the hassle of having to argue to defend Peter Obi all the time, it stands to reason that a more effective rebuttal of his assertions would be to get a good camera (like Spyders'), note all those areas of Onitsha (and also Aba.....for any Abian brethren in da house) that feature unflattering pics on google, and then retake new pics of the area showing the new cleaned up image you'd want the world to see......you can do this many times and upload to many other sites, and maybe even contact google directly to see how you could replace those old ugly pics with the latest ones. I've also noticed when one searches for pics of places like Onitsha on google, you tend to get these old pics of about 6 to 10 year ago, so it's left to you guys to do as Spyder is doing and upload nice pics if you insist Onitsha is being falsely represented. |
Re: Enugu, The Pride Of The East. by Abagworo(m): 10:03am On Jun 09, 2013 |
IGBO-SON: Thank you my brother. That chino man is too clannish and sentimental to even discuss with. I mentioned Aba and Onitsha because if you google Enugu and Owerri you seem to get better images. Google Calabar and all you see is beauty. It is not in our own good to portray our cities negatively whereas in reality they are not as bad. These links were topics created by Igbos and the pictures specifically targetting only the dump sites or disorganized area. http://www.thenigerianvoice.com/nvnews/115844/1/world-environmental-week-aba-the-dirty-city.html http://groups.yahoo.com/group/NIgerianWorldForum/message/133580 |

Open gutters, no sidewalks. Even in a brand new estate. Why can't they just built this road the correct way, with covered drainage and pedestrian sidewalks? When will they understand that pedestrians have a RIGHT to a formally designated walking space on EVERY STREET? Roads in residential areas MUST come with sidewalks and covered drains, or the job must be rejected. We need a national STANDARD for building roads. What is so hard about building roads like this: 1 Like |

CFCfan: ^^ CFCfan, do you realise the comforts and the salubrious effects on blood pressure, as well as the sheer peace of mind of just stepping out of your house onto a designated sidewalk for a walk without thinking of dodging cars or the gutter? That alone raises living standards by a healthy margin in any society! |
Re: Enugu, The Pride Of The East. by Nobody: 7:35pm On Jun 10, 2013 |
Rossikk: You are absolutely spot on! The anxiety levels would surely drop if side-walks were more prevalent in Nigerian residential areas. I'm disappointed that Governor Chime, a man renowned for attention to detail, allowed such a project to go ahead with the deficiency. |
