So I am thinking of buying my mum an SUV. 3-4 million is the budget. What would you recommend please? Is it better to attempt to buy from one of the auction sites or just go to a dealer in Nigeria? Ideally I would love to ship a car for her but I am scared of things going wrong.I have heard too many horror stories about cars getting stuck for months at Apapa. Please advice. Thanks in advance. |

Hi everyone, its been a long time since I posted here. I remembered what a good community this was for me so I am back! How is everyone coping with the lockdown? Its been a time of self reflection for me. Anyone living in Coulsdon, Purley or Croydon area that wants to make friends? I realise that I have been here for years but still have mostly non Nigerian friends. Also, I am thinking of moving to a different area with affordable houses and good schools. It must be a town I can commute to central London for work. Your suggestion will be appreciated. Thanks 4 Likes |

justwise: I have a friend travelling back to Nigeria today. I will give it to her so that she can give my mother inlaw to help me get it done and then post it back to me. The paper they used for the finger print says for imigration/visa fingerprint with the metrpolitan letter head. Do you think it will matter?? The finger print cost 70.50 and I had had to beg my way into the police station because i didnt have an appointment today. |

justwise: Hi Justwise, you were sooo right o! The embassy didnt mention anything about a letter. All they siad was that I should pay 15 pounds for postal order to Nigeria and 10 pounds postal order for administration fees for the Police certificate. I went to the embassy today and they said they have mailed me the letter. I got the finger prints done at the Police station and I didnt need a letter from the Embassy. They did the finger prints on their own police paper afterwards I went to the embassy and realised that they were about to send me to the police station with a letter I didnt even need. The lady at the embassy said its my problem from here that I should look for a way to send it to Nigeria. |

Hi All I need to get some advice for an ex colleague of mine. She got married in Dec, 2011 to a British Citizen but did not apply for a spouse visa immediately because she got pregnant and had not written the TOEFL. I advised her to apply immediately and use her Bachelors degree as proof of English but i didnt see her for a while and the next time i saw her she was heavily pregnant. Last year she went to renew her UK visa and filled single out of negligence and because she thought she had to change her name to fill married so her visa was revewed for 2 years. Just last month she tried applying for her daughter and this time filled in married and attached her marriage certificate but the embassy picked on the change of status immediately and called her for an interview. they asked her why she filled single when she was renewing and she told the truth that her marriage certificate wasnt close to her thats why she negligently filled single but she travelled to get her marriage certificate thats why she had filled in the correct status. The lady didnt believe her and cancelled her visa and also gave her a 10 years ban. Now she wants to apply for a settlement visa but her husband doesnt even earn up to 22400 which is the financial requirment for her and her baby. This is what i advised her to do: First of all, you need to meet the financial requirement. It is an essential requirment for you to meet the minimum requirement. The only other way for you to beat the requirement is for you or your Hubby to have a savings of £16,000 savings. If you apply without meeting the minimum threshold, you will be rejected. The minimum threshold was put in place to reduce the ammount of immigrants coming to the UK and to prevent people from eventually seeking their stupid benefit. If your husband can't meet the minimum threshold, I suggest that you get the 16k from family. You shouldn't pay all the money in at once as that will flag that you sourced the money. A ban doesnt affect you cos it is settlement visa however, they can frustrate you and if you are not careful they can frustrate you for years and it can turn it into a legal battle. The best way to handle it is to make your application air tight. Make sure you have the test of english or that you have your certificate. Make sure you have 16k if your husband doesnt earn up to 22,400 because if you dont, they will take your application fees money and still reject you because you didnt meet the essential requirement. Once you are sure that you have met all the essential requirement, then the next thing to do is draft a very very good letter explaining what happened. Be as sincere as possible, that you thought you had to change your name first before you could apply for a renewal. Make it heart felt that its putting an emotional strain on your marriage as you and your husband are not together and that you have a baby involved. They will be baised because of the ban but you can show how sincere you are by explaining and backing it up with proof. Add job adverts and show case that you are employable that you will get a job to support your husband. Add pictures of your wedding, baby, birth certificate of baby, time spent together(dont add a big album cos they will not collect it at vfs if it is big), emails, invitation card to your wedding, letters from family, friends attesting that your relationship with your husband is genuine. Remember DO NOT APPLY if you dont meet the essential financial requirements because if you do you will waste 200+ on the application and even if you apeal which can take between 6-12 months, you will loose just because of the financial cash requirement problem. Another way that you can beat the system is if your husband comes to apply for the baby so that he can get a british passport for your baby. They will do a DNA to make sure the baby is his.(He will be the one to pay for it sha) After the baby gets his passport then you can apply. That way he will only have to meet the minimum threshold of 18,600 because the baby will be exempt from immigration control being a citizen. She has lost all hope because her husband contacted his lawyer and the lawyer said that there is no hope and that she can never win the case because she is banned and that the embassy will hold on to the fact that she lied about her status in the first place. |

Thanks guys. Its not for a lost document. Its a form of CRB from Nigeria. I got a job with the Ministry and they sent me an email that they dont do CRB checks outside the UK but that I should go to my embassy and get a Police certificate clearance from my country. I need it ASAP but I have a feeling I will hear stories at the Nigerian Embassy tomorrow. The information is actually on the Nigerian embassy website and cost 25 pounds but my problem is that I need it fast. Has anyone tried to use the Nigeriancrb.com? Will give you guys feedback tomorrow when I get back from the Nigerian Embassy. NB: I havent been in the Uk for long, just 4 months plus and I am sure the CRB is for way longer because the HR lady called it a disclosure scotland check...whatever that means. ![]() |
Hello guy, I am a dual citizen on Nigeria and UK. I want my wife to join me here but I'm in a fixed- I just realized she needs to take and pass an approved English test. The problem now is: what tests are available in Nigeria and what where can she register and take such exam? She is a HND holder in statistics. Will that exempt her from the test. Any inputs will be greatly appreciated.
If she is applying for a UK spouse Visa and she is a graduate at a Nigerian University (i.e Bsc Holder) then she wouldn't need to do the test of English. She isn't exempt because she isn't a Bsc holder. I applied recently and I didn't do the test of English, I used my Bsc instead. She can do the TOEFL at any of the centers that organise TOEFL and SAT in Nigeria. |

i flew Iberia in June to America. My experience going was uneventful. The flight was small and their was a small central entertainment system on board. Coming back to Nigeria was horrible! The flight was delayed and it was a very tiny Airbus. As if that wasn't annoying enough; there were some really loud Calabar people on board screaming their conversation across the aisle in their language. It was absolutely annoying ![]() ![]() ![]() 1 Like |

EXCEPTS FROM UK BORDER AGENCY WEBSITE Family migration changes announced - updated 13 June 2012 On 11 June 2012 the Government announced changes to the Immigration Rules for non-European Economic Area (non-EEA) nationals applying to enter or remain in the UK on the family migration route. The new Immigration Rules will also unify consideration under the rules and Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights, by defining the basis on which a person can enter or remain in the UK on the basis of their family or private life. Today (13 June 2012) rules have been laid in Parliament which will bring these changes into effect, along with an impact assessment, a policy equality statement and a statement on the compatibility of the rules with Article 8. Most of these changes will apply to new applicants from 9 July 2012. The changes are part of the Government's programme of reform of the immigration routes and follow wide consultation and expert advice from the Migration Advisory Committee. The changes include: introducing a new minimum income threshold of £18,600 for sponsoring the settlement in the UK of a spouse or partner, or fiancé(e) or proposed civil partner of non-European Economic Area (EEA) nationality, with a higher threshold for any children also sponsored; £22,400 for one child and an additional £2,400 for each further child; publishing, in casework guidance, a list of factors associated with genuine and non-genuine relationships, to help UK Border Agency caseworkers to focus on these issues; extending the minimum probationary period for settlement for non-EEA spouses andpartners from two years to five years, to test the genuineness of the relationship; abolishing immediate settlement for the migrant spouses and partner where a couple have been living together overseas for at least 4 years, and requiring them to complete a 5 year probationary period; from October 2013, requiring all applicants for settlement to pass the Life in the UK Test and present an English language speaking and listening qualification at B1 level or above of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages unless they are exempt; allowing adult and elderly dependants to settle in the UK only where they can demonstrate that, as a result of age, illness or disability, they require a level of long-term personal care that can only be provided by a relative in the UK, and requiring them to apply from overseas rather than switch in the UK from another category, for example as a visitor; and restricting family visit visa appeals, initially by narrowing the current definitions of family and sponsor for appeal purposes, and then, subject to the passage of the Crime and Courts Bill, which was published on 11 May 2012, removing the full right of appeal against refusal of a family visit visa. For more information about the changes that are being introduced and details of transitional arrangements, please see the Statement of Changes to the Immigration rules (HC 194), the Explanatory Memorandum, impact assessment, the policy equality statement and European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) memorandum on the right side of this page. |
