Can you expand? I'd like to know what the book says are good buy days and why. Same for sell days. I know it depends on the trend from previous days, but some more info would be nice.

The idea about the monday sell-off day is based on the weekend break that allows peeps in the market to react to the trend of thursdays and fridays. When there is a rally most investors get taken over by the euphoria until the profit takers descend. The real real profit takers are the institutional traders and big money peeps. For instance , NEM opened today @4.51 , the smart money moved in about 11.00 to take profits and push it to max 5% loss for the daytrade.  TRADING FOR A LIVING by ALEXANDER ELDER. A must for any trader.

Ogbeni,

This is dangerous ooo

What of if BabaIbeji or Mr @Wanaj0 says no more show for nairalanders what happens.

I am here to learn how to fish, so that if today Seun says no more show for nairaland I can stand on my two feet and make millions.

The only good thing is both the gurus are making my learning curve way way shorter and honestly for that I am extremely grateful.

this is CRUCIAL especially to newbies, you must LEARN , the EXPERIENCE of the gurus will help fastrack your knowledge bank . A few weeks ago , nairaland was off air ,then the danger of gurudependency was highlighted. There is just no way forward other than to Learn.  I have made progress and money and da  FAULT belongs to peeps like EASI , FATHER OF 2, PUMPING ,WW ETC  I cant thank all of you enough but the newbies goota understand you ave to do your own smart and hardwork.

@ fatherof2,

this your "Friday" theory na something else. I must admit warming up to it. Almost all buying will be done on Fridays from this day forward.

With due respect to Father of 2 , you can add MONDAYS as sell-off days too , got this from a book, Trading for a Living . The Thursday - friday is also written there and explained.

Before we get carried away, there are many folks on this thread that have given us very accurate predictions using varying theories and strategies.

For me, the idea is in blending the different styles with your own and churning out the profits. No single strategy is foolproof.

Fundamentals still work big time. I gave a list of 5 stocks on December 26th based on fundamentals. In 6 trading days, the stocks have appreciated 32% (AGLeventis), 26%(BetaGlass), 19%(Lawunion), 32%(Unic) and 3% (UBA).

How much better does it get in less than 2 weeks?

@ Pumping

you have a way of posting my thoughts. One more reason apart from your selflessness why i read your posts many times over. You and some guys i have mentioned repeatedly here are responsible for me being much better than a year ago . Thanx a mil.

I doubt it as well that the insurance will make it past next week - Niger insurance already started losing above 4% yesterday and also lost today - so the loosing has already start.

[/quote]

Niger ins case is a bit different, the firm result was no good , 16% change in PAT over same period in 06 don't look good considering the industry results. Though inevitably profit-takers must descend.

@ Easimoni, interesting perspective you have there on the analysing the NSE index. I do the same myself but unlike last year, this year will be a bit different. The funds available for injection into the market will almost be double that of last year hence I don't want to use last year as a guide to this year but more so a safety factor of when to withdraw. This year I have drank cement so I have the stomach for the most turbulent waves. Wetin I do wey I no go fit buy the next NACHO for market sef abi na me sin pass for this world. Last year we had the Pension funds, Foreign funds etc. This year with the lull in the western markets, the NSE is ranked 4th or 6th depending on the site you search in terms of 12 month return on investment (109%) with that in mind the more western asset mgmt firms have turned up for the party early and this can be confirmed by the early start of the bull run. Just watch this, it might just be sustained till the 2Q. Secondly the funds have been made available to the insurance firms and where are they putting it? yes you guessed right in the stock market. If you had read the prospectus of all the PO from the insurance firms you'd see that they don't know the first thing about monee management. They mostly talked about branch expansion employment of more marketing personnel etc. Except those with strong financial banks backing them (WAPIC) most will play the market so more funds competing for stocks in our NSE. I had earlier posted a write up on this but only easimoni responded. Now that we seem to have a full house again I will welcome consenting or differing opinions on this.

Abeg who fit tell me the next NACHO/AFROIL. This year I don dedicate funds wey I wan LOSE. I wan las vegas the cash for the NSE. All these firms that do this NEVER have good fundamentals!!!

I share your view on this. In fact i alluded to this in two of my last posts as regards the DEMAND that is pushing stock prices north. I compared the last year's trend with this year and definitely bull run has taken off earlier and i believe it will be sustained because TOO MUCH MONEY are chasing the limited listed firms.Though there will be occasional  profit -taking but there will be more abnormal  profits to make. Futher i noticed a trend in the last 6 weeks , every week there is a feature or analysis in Business Day about  1 or 2 listed firms and guess what , the share price rallies heavily afterwards it was the case for NEIMETH , OANDO , C I LEASING and
this week FCMB .I think most participants help the bull run to become a self-fulfilling prophecy as every player tries to take position ahead of the next man, maybe we all read the same information. Bottomline, the demand will continue to push price up and the trend will last as suggested by easimoni. methinks this is going to be a watershed year and we should restrategize for the changing NSE.

am with u on this. I have made a decision to withdraw my P.O applications except the ones i find truly promising. The opportunities lost to PO s is becoming greater as the excess-demand(oversubscription) for P.Os are almost a certainty. The secondary market is not spared either as the DEMAND for most stocks is pushing prices north .The market seems to be changing fast.  i undertand better why some peeps dont do P.Os.

guys i intend buying some amounts of livestock.  does anyone have any clue about its fundamentals?

many thanks for you help

dont have much info except this below which i got from Bizday :

The firm is the leading producer of livestock feeds in Nigeria.

Plans to reopen Kaduna mill to boost production capacity and improve market share and accesssibility.

Plans to icrease production from the present average of 4.5 metric tonnes per hour@ three key operating mills.

Apparently the firm is expanding but i dont have projections as to when the expansion will impact the Topline and bottom line.

It appears the insurance bull is holding steady as 11 firms in the sector did max price limit. Fcmb , Oceanic,Gtb,Access inching higher . Positioning should be done ASAP as it appears the big money movers have started positioning for the 1st half of next year. A.g leventis did max.Betaglass ,Nampak did max points. AP, OandO ,Conoil and Afroil closed @max point.

You can make a success of it even if you have a B.sc in Hausa language. What matters is your dedication and hardwork . The financial maths should be a piece of cake for you , but the difficulty of the exam lies in the VOLUME OF THE MATERIALS.for the Level 1 exam , there isnt much quatitative analysis. If you Love money , you will enjoy the notes despite the stress. Please can anyone give me info on AIICO IPO, is it a good buy/
Thanks

AIICO is a good buy based on the pricing and the growth prospects in the insurance sector. The last 5 years financials does not provide any extra incentive to buy, however the company will do well going forward as it will leverage on the local content policy that keeps substantial risk retention in the country while it will be able to expand its risk capacity with the recently signed contract. The P/E @ offer price is 10.48x.

Good as this result will seem, large as this dividend will seem, I think it is still paltry compared to Oceanic's current stock price of plus N30.

What I am trying to show here is that leaving your investments for the long term is less rewarding than trading on the stocks. I remember selling my oceanic holdings at N28 around may-june this year and using the money for some fantastic trades, against my brokers advice, he seems to think oceanic is a forever good stock  cheesy

I bought some other stocks which have given me a 50% average appreciation, had I been waiting on oceanic, what I will get since then will be N1.02 for a full year?

Guys, comment on this.

made precisely the same move in october and its been a good decision ,though i don't mind paying a limited premium for oceanic for the long term ,however there are better and more profitable short term options . The risk-return is not the same for different timeframes but you have a higher probability of good returns in the long run than in the short term. Finally the  cost of the extra profits you made by realigning your portfolio is the premium you pay to reenter oceanic. You can't win them all !

Anyone watching Neimeth Plc ? The share price has surged lately and here is the story i found .Two subsidiaries has been created

  1. NISL - Neimeth Intergrated Services Limited

  2.WHL-Worldwide Healthcare Limited

Objective- To boost turnover and increase return on investment

NISL vision -
To generate unprecedented value for stakeholders BY TAKING ADVANTAGE OF EMERGING OPPORTUNITIES created by MARKET REFORMS. In order to achieve this the firm intends to engage in the following services -

Fast consumer health products such as Health and Energy drinks
  Skin Care products

Digital Self -Diagnostic instruments and Devices

AND investment activities.

PROJECTIONS

                       TURNOVER         PBT
        2008       1.5BN                 0.36BN

        2009        3.0BN                0.81BN

        2010        4.5BN                1.2BN

The other subsidiary WHL will engage in

Helthcare provisioning with emphasis on deworming , rollback malaria ,safe motherhood and sickle cell support programmes.

Health Systems Management, public private sector partnership and Project Consultancy -reactivation and upgrading of health services.

Contract Manufacturing

Guaranteed revolving credit scheme

MULTI-LEVEL MARKETING with focus on natural products.

WHL PROJECTIONS

               TURNOVER
2007       300MN

2008       500MN

2009        700MN

2010         1BN

The best part of the story is the Neimeth CEO statement  THAT THE IMPACT OF THE INVESTMENT IN THE SUBSIDIARIES  WILL BEGIN TO MANIFEST IN 3 MONTHS.

I think this is worth a look in as the firm is growing and has good fundamentals though the industry is not a high margin sector comparatively.

1st WEALTH COMMANDMENT: Thou Shalt Build Wealth For a Noble Cause[/b

[b]8th Wealth Commandment: Thou Shalt Apply Leverage

Leverage is the essential principle that leads to wealth. You will not get wealthy by trading time for money and you cannot do it all yourself. Building wealth requires you to
Work smarter rather than harder by applying the following principles of leverage:

1: Financial leverage: Other people's money so that you are not limited by your own pocketbook.
2: Time leverage: Other people's time so that you are not limited to 24 hours in a day.
3: Systems and Technology Leverage: Other people's systems and technology so that you can get more done with less effort.
4: Communications Leverage: Other people's magazines, newsletters, radio shows, and databases so that you can communicate to millions with no more effort than is required to communicate one-on-one.
5: Relationship Leverage: Other people's resources, connections, knowledge, talents and experience so that you are not limited to your own.
6: Knowledge Leverage: Other people's proven models of success so that you can save time and money by not reinventing the wheel.

Leverage allows you to create more wealth than you could ever achieve alone by utilizing resources other than your own. It allows you to grow wealth beyond your personal limitations.

Leverage is what separates those who attain wealth from those who don't. It is just that simple. If you aren't using leverage then you are working harder than you should to earn less than you deserve and that isn't going to make you wealthy.

Thanx man. For me #8 is the best and vital part.

So relying exclusively on the study notes isn't a bad idea.
Do u know any medium i can use and pay for these exams. Its the basic headache i have now, and will i pay extra for the shipping

You can pay through your credit card or call schweser to ask for alternative payment method. You may sign up for the Online class. The instructor is very good.

Do they have:
Trade Alert
Online mandate
Commission
Prompt execution: how many days?

Thank you for your replies

@Emmachile

Trade ALERT- yes , i get my trade alerts in spain
Online mandate- in my case no , the website is going thru changes. I prefer to mail and confirm by phone , dont leave nothing to chance .
Commission - you may be able to adjust based on volumes, methinks this is on a case-by case basis.
Prompt Execution - Same day ,90% of the time. This is their stongest selling point .
Weekly Picks - Afrinvest weekly picks include short term trade recommendations.

Research - they are good , but I THINK fsdh is best of the lot on research.

You do not need to be a genius to pass even if you have not started studying, it's not even January yet.  I appreciate you trying to communicate the level of difficulty to people, but no need to give people heart attack, abi na how many people be genius? grin  You need to dedicate time for studying though as there is a lot of material to cover, especially in level 2. I used Schweser books and they were good enough.

@ all

i don't want to exagerrate the difficulty but niether do i want to understimate the task. yOU DO NOT NEED TO BE A GENIUS , BUT THE MARGIN OF ERROR is reduced because the pass mark is 70% and you can't fail ethics. Also we are different in our comprehesion and Retention capacities. Hence ,i may need 3hrs to understand what others will probably understand in 2hrs or less. My point , the earlier you start studying the better , the more you study and take REPEATED TESTS , the higher your CONFIDENCE LEVEL.  It IS ABSOLULETLY ESSENTIAL YOU CONTINUALLY TEST YOURSELF YOURSELF so you do not HAVE A false sense of security. REMEMBER , THE AVERAGE HUMAN BRAIN WILL FILE AWAY ANY INFORMATION AFTER 3 WEEKS IF YOU DO NOT REPEATEDLY ASK THE BRAIN FOR IT. Not trying to raise alarm , but anyone can make a succes of it , if you apply yourself to the task. goodluck
