Politics / Amaechi Is My Son, I Cannot Fight Him - Patience Jonathan by cynosure1(m): 8:40pm On Jul 17, 2013 |
First Lady Patience Jonathan, on Wednesday, said that she had committed the ongoing crisis in Rivers State to prayers. Rivers has been embroiled in a political crisis which culminated in a free for all at the House of Assembly last week, with some members injured. Jonathan said this when 16 bishops from the South-South geo- political zone visited her at the Presidential Villa. “Rivers State’s issue is one thing I’ve committed to prayer because I believe there is nothing God cannot do,” she said. “God restored me and I’ll do His work without the fear of man. The truth will always remain the truth and what God ordains must come to pass; and so Rivers issue is something we’ve handed over to God.’’ The president’s wife said contrary to some reports, she had always mediated between Governor Chibuike Amaechi and other parties in a crisis that began four years ago. “This matter started as far back as four years ago at Anyugubiri in Okrika when I begged him not to demolish a part of Okrika but (that he should) dialogue first with the people,” she said. “After that incident, he called the chairman of Okrika (local government) and sacked him for holding a reception in our honour; that boy was the first victim. He also put my people on curfew for nine months. I called him and pleaded with him but he refused. Then I began to hear all sort of propaganda in the media against me; this is not the way. I’ve never spoken about this issue but as men of God, I believe you’ll say the truth always because there are a lot of conflicting interests; some will hear one thing and say the exact opposite. I also want you to know the genesis of this problem and pray that God touches Amaechi’s heart as per his hot temper because when two elephants fight, it is the grass that suffers.’’ Jonathan urged the parties involved in the crisis to help to resolve issues plaguing the state and not whip up sentiments that will aggravate the problem. I appeal to Amaechi to sheathe his sword so that we can defend our state and this country with love, unity, patriotism and truth at all time. “Hebrews 12:14 urges us to embrace peace with all men without which, we cannot see God,” she said. “Amaechi is my son, I cannot fight him and I cannot kill him. He shouldn’t be used by outsiders against his own blood because this seat is vanity. One day, no matter how long it takes, we will leave this seat. Power is not forever. This seat is vanity, others sat here and left so one day I’ll also leave and we will meet at home; so why should I fight him? Let’s take it easy, face issues, leave non- existent matters, stop magnifying lies and respect our leaders and people in authority. Let’s give peace a chance.” Earlier, Bishop God-Do-Well Awomapara, Chairman, Niger Delta Bishops Forum, who led the delegation, said the visit was significant “in view of emerging situations in our region. “We are on a quest to unravel the mysteries surrounding the Rivers issue and mediate where necessary,” he said. Foreign Affairs / Bombing Suspect Finally Caught (Pictures) by cynosure1(m): 9:26am On Apr 20, 2013 |
UPDATED: Apr 20, 2013 03:59 GMT The second suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings was taken into custody Friday night, bringing to an end a massive manhunt in the tense Massachusetts capital worried by warnings the man was possibly armed with explosives. After announcing the arrest on Twitter, Boston police tweeted: "CAPTURED!!! The hunt is over. The search is done. The terror is over. And justice has won. Suspect in custody." Authorities confirmed the man in custody is 19-year-old Dzhokar Tsarnaev, who escaped an overnight shootout with police that left his older brother Tamerlan Tsarnaev -- the other man wanted in the bombings -- dead. The younger Tsarnaev was in serious condition, Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis said at a news conference. He was being treated at Boston's Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, hospital spokeswoman Kelly Lawman said. Tsarnaev was cornered late Friday as he was hiding on a boat in a backyard of Watertown, a suburb of Boston. Police were alerted to his whereabouts by a man who went outside after authorities lifted an order for residents to stay inside during the manhunt. The resident saw blood on a boat in the backyard, Davis said. He then lifted up the tarp covering the boat and "saw a man covered with blood," he said. It was that call that resulted in an arrest less than a week after two bombs exploded near the finish line of the Boston Marathon, shocking the nation and leaving a city on edge. "There was an exchange of gunfire, and I don't know if he was struck," Davis said of the suspect. Authorities, using a bullhorn, had called on the suspect to surrender: "Come out with your hands up." Tsarnaev, according to authorities, refused to surrender. "We used a robot to pull the tarp off the boat," David Procopio of the Massachusetts State Police said. "We were also watching him with a thermal imaging camera in our helicopter. He was weakened by blood loss -- injured last night most likely," Tsarnaev was taken into custody after authorities rushed the boat, Davis said. Closing a chapter The standoff and subsequent arrest came just minutes after authorities indicated during a news conference that a manhunt for the suspect appeared to come up empty. Authorities had cast a wide net for the suspect, virtually shutting down Boston and its surroundings after a violent night in which authorities say the brothers allegedly hurled explosives at pursuers, after killing Massachusetts Institute of Technology police Officer Sean Collier and hijacking a car. "We've closed an important chapter in this tragedy," President Barack Obama said in a televised address. Even so, he vowed to seek answers to the motive in the attack and find out whether the suspects received any help to carry out their plot. The government is invoking the public safety exception to question Tsarnaev, meaning in cases of national security a person can be questioned without being read their Miranda rights, a Justice Department official told CNN on condition of anonymity. The official is not authorized to publicly discuss the matter. U.S. Attorney Carmen Ortiz told reporters the "government has that opportunity right now" to invoke the public safety exemption but stopped short of declaring it would take that step, saying only the suspect was in the hospital. Politics / FBI Needs Help In Identifying Boston Bomb Suspects by cynosure1(m): 11:02pm On Apr 18, 2013 |
The FBI on Thursday released photos and video of two men it called suspects in the deadly bombings at the Boston Marathon and pleaded for public help in identifying them. The two men were photographed walking together near the finish line of the marathon before the explosions that killed three people and wounded about 180. One of the two men was seen setting down a backpack at the site of the second explosion, said Special Agent Rick DesLauriers, the head of the FBI's Boston office. DesLauriers said the men should be considered armed and "extremely dangerous. The announcement capped a day in which President Barack Obama brought a mixture of reassurance and defiance to an interfaith memorial service in the city's Cathedral of the Holy Cross. Whoever planted the bombs "picked the wrong city" to attack, he said. "Every one of us stands with you," Obama told the crowd. "Boston may be your hometown -- but we claim it, too. ... For millions of us, what happened on Monday is personal." Addressing the still-unknown perpetrators, Obama added, "Yes, we will find you. And yes, you will face justice. We will hold you accountable." Call 1-800-CALL-FBI if you have infomation about the 2 suspects. Source: www.edition.cnn.com/2013/04/18/us/boston-blasts/index.html |

Sports / Osaze Attacks West Brom On Twitter Again by cynosure1(m): 8:36am On Mar 18, 2013 |
Peter Odemwingie has launched a fresh Twitter attack on West Brom after being consigned to the substitutes’ bench since his failed bid to leave The Hawthorns in January. Odemwingie delivered a series of Twitter rants against the club after having a transfer request rejected at the start of the year, and he has once again vented his frustration after being omitted from the Baggies’ starting line-up for the last four games. He tweeted on Sunday: “Keeping me on the bench now is worst than what they did on the 31st. New advisers told me to take saying its all my fault cos its better for me. If they like they shouldn’t even give me 10 mins to play. Threatening to ruin my career? Career I closed already last summer? No harm to me. Want to treat me like an average player. The abuse and praise I get is it average ? So get some extra from me too.” The 31-year-old striker had been a target of QPR throughout January and had repeatedly voiced his displeasure at not being allowed to leave. Odemwingie then memorably turned up at Loftus Road without permission on transfer deadline day only to be left in the cold as his planned move to QPR collapsed, an act described by Baggies head coach Steve Clarke as “total lunacy”. The Nigeria international last month apologised for his actions during that period and also accepted the disciplinary action taken by West Brom for his conduct. The Baggies would have been hoping that was the end of the issue but, after only featuring as a second-half substitute in the club’s recent fixtures, Odemwingie has once again hit out. He continued: “Former Albion sporting director in the presence of the new and Manager apologised to me in private. Publicly not good ? “Drive was lunacy ? Missing in the training section that day also lunacy ? They forgot to complain about that though cos they knew were I was. “Things have almost got back to normal till Peter spoilt it again. What’s normal ? We see things differently obviously. “Has anyone seen me give interview to clubs website for a year now ? What about an interview in match day magazine ? I am on my own there. “Was ready to give half of the contract there and earn less to make it happen. Forcing a move really is when u want to leave 4 free. Foreign Affairs / US Moving Navy Destroyers Off Coast Of Libya by cynosure1(m): 2:08pm On Sep 13, 2012 |
Two US Navy warships are moving towards the coast of Libya, two US officials tell CNN. The destroyers are the USS Laboon and the USS McFaul. Both ships are equipped with tomahawk missiles that could be used if a strike was ordered. Tomahawks are satellite-guided cruise missiles that can be programmed to hit specific targets. “These ships will give the administration flexibility,” a senior official said, if the administration orders action against targets in Libya. The USS Laboon was making a port call in Crete, a few hours from Libya, when it was ordered to reposition. The USS McFaul was outside the Strait of Gibraltar, a few days sail from Libya, and is headed to the Libyan coast. The US Navy typically keeps up to four Aegis-equipped missile warships ships in the eastern Mediterranean to aid in defending Israel and missile defense for southern Europe. The McFaul and Laboon were part of that deployment. security.blogs.cnn.com/2012/09/12/us-moving-navy-destroyers-off-coast-of-libya/ |

I think Man utd and Arsenal have the most loyal supporters. Most chelsea fans started following the club after Mourinho's first year though they are very loyal too. One cannot effectively determine who has the highest number of fans. All three-Chelsea,Arsenal and Man utd are much supported in Nigeria. I am Man utd fan though! |
