In Job's eyes allowing his daughters to be violated was better than allowing sodomy to happen to his "August Visitors."  This shows you how terrible the act of sodomy is and the fact that Obama is now celebrating this abominable act shows how doomed his country has become.

that is truly one of the most sickening things I have ever heard. that you would try to justify raping women.
that you would attempt to justify a so called father offering his daughters up to be raped.

I reject that and for your daughters sakes i reject it also.

Blind Men and an Elephant

Good one. In this case though, the issue is not what does an elephant look like. You see, the blind men in the story already know and agree that it is in fact an elephant that they are each touching. they just differ on what it looks like.

In this case the blind men would not know what animal they were touching, or if they were even all touching the same one.

Deep Sight:

The indubitable fact still remains that the people who use the words Olodumare, Allah, YHWH and Brahman, all bear in mind a reference to a supreme transcendental being who is the ultimate cause of all existence.

I agree! though you have to admit that they DONT* necessarily mean the same being. The descriptions, attributes, attitudes etc ascribed to each of these entities/concepts are not necessarily the same. In recent times huge efforts have been made to syncretize them because it makes conversions easier.

*edit: forgot that word earlier lol
Religion / Re: Are Olodumare And "god/allah" The Same Entity/concept/word? by devayid(m): 12:27pm On Apr 11, 2011
Guys there's no bottom to the pit that you're entering. On so many levels its impossible to be specific as each of those particular words Olodumare, God and Allah are interpretations of various things using the constructs of language.

Perhaps they are the same. Perhaps they are simple aspects of the same being/entity/concept. Perhaps they are completely different.

what I do know is that christian missionaries typically looked and look for any god or entity that the locals and natives believe in that equate the most powerful one with the christian god.

the islamists just killed everyone who said otherwise.

Personally, I don't think they originally referred to the same entities/concepts. Now though, who can say. Language defines so much of your thoughts and thought patterns. eg a gay is a cigarette in england but not the same thing in most other places lol. the word refers to vastly different things depending on the context, location, people using it etc.

KunleOshob:

Pastor olaadegbu, as usual your theology is built on errors and assumptions, firstly too little is written or known about Melchizedek in the bible for you to attempt to write a dissertation on it, secondly 'salem' is an old name for jerusalem in the bible and not 'peace' this means melchizedek was king of Jerusalem and not King of Peace as you errornuosly tried to portray. If you are in doubt get a good bible concordance and check out the meaning of 'salem'

@kunleosob,
OOLADEGBU is simply copying and pasting the theories of one man (Henry Morris). I don't think OOLADEGBU can actually think for himself anymore. He just believes anything that one man has written, whether it makes sense or not.

Ask him to explain, or challenge his "views" and all he will do is start searching round the internet for what someone else has written to copy and paste again.

As for this random post, I don't even get what its supposed to be about.

So according to Henry Morris (your infallible bible interpretor) melchizedek is God? Assuming this ridiculousness is true, what then? Do you have any idea how ridiculous and utterly insane all the rantings of this Henry Morris guy is?

After all that has been said your only words are:
"Are you sure that you are not on your way down on those slippery stairs that leads to atheism?"

If that's how you want to play it, allow me to rip you a new one:

Modernism describes a broad body of theological views regarded as heretical by the Catholic Church, including the belief that the Church and Catholic dogma are mere human institutions and as such their nature may radically change over time.[1] The term was used by Pope Pius X, chiefly in reference to the teachings of Alfred Loisy and George Tyrell. "Modernists" generally did not use this label in describing themselves, nor did they necessarily see themselves as a unified group.

In his encyclical Pascendi Dominici gregis of 1907, Pius X declared that Modernism was not only heretical, but even condemned it as "the synthesis of all heresies",[2] because it undermined defined Catholic doctrine in a fundamental way, denying the idea of objective unchanging truth and authoritative teaching. In his decree Lamentabili Sane, Pius X presented 65 condemned and proscribed errors of Modernism.

The Modernist crisis took place chiefly in French and British intellectual Catholic circles, to a lesser extent in Italy, and virtually nowhere else.[3] The Modernist movement in Catholicism was influenced by certain Protestant theologians and clergy, starting with the Tübingen school in the mid-19th century. Some, however, such as George Tyrell, disagreed strongly with this analogy; Tyrell saw himself as loyal to the unity of the Church, and disliked liberal Protestantism (Hales 1958). According to Church critics and dissidents of both past and present, in some respects the Church appeared to be reacting to cultural themes that had arisen with Renaissance humanism and had informed the Enlightenment of the 18th century.

http://www.statemaster.com/encyclopedia/Modernism-%28Roman-Catholicism%29

The Roman Catholic Church was talking about people like you when they came up with the term "modernist".

You want more? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portal:Atheism/Selected_picture
which leads http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Modernism_%28Roman_Catholicism%29

Don't speak of things you have no idea what they mean. So who's on the road to atheism, the me, the Catholics, you or the Protestants? All roads lead to Rome in the end, yall keep swinging right back to the Church you rebelled against, using its arguments to defend your faith, using its structures as foundations to build upon but in the end you all crumble because you are built on fluff and don't even understand what it is you believe.

Don't post back here again rehashing or simply doing a sharp copy and paste of someone else's writing because you have no idea who that person was, the context in which that person was speaking or who they were speaking to. If you truly believe all the foolish irrationalities you have been spouting, defend them from your understanding. Don't let someone else think you you. They might be wrong.

You are well entitled to believe your dogma. The RCC would not have been relevant if Jesus did not have this to say about them:

"He answered and said to them, Well has Isaiah prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honours me with their lips, but their hearts is far from me. Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. For laying aside the commandments of God, you hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many others such like things you do. And he said to them, Full well you reject the commandment of God, that you may keep your own tradition." Mark 7:6-9

If not for the RCC how will this saying be fulfilled?

I mean seriously, you have pastors buying jets, living like kings, stealing money from their congregation, building universities that 90% of their congregation cannot afford to attend, wining and dining with criminals and thieves like Erastus Akingbola, Cecilia Ibru etc They refuse to condemn criminality because they are just as compromised. Abeg siddon somewhere think your life over first, before you start trying to "save" anyone.

This is a classical case of how these humanists christians take some biblical passages out of context and try to impose a strictly literal random poetic meaning on some prophetic and poetic literal passages as I earlier mentioned. Revelation 7:1 for example, prophetically literally refers to the four corners of the earth, and is obviously referring to the directions of North, South, East and West. Poetic passages such as Psalm 75:3, which refers to the "pillars" of the earth figuratively literally, are also being used to discredit Christians skeptics by these skeptics christians who believe in the humanist christian religion.

I am a Christian, but not like most of you who claim literal translations one day and for one passage, taken completely out of context, and "poetic" license when it suits you the next day. You are the ones doing the most damage to Christianity with your shallow understanding, misguided proselytizing and completely irrational arguments.

Religion / Re: Science Confirms The Bible by devayid(m): 10:53am On Apr 08, 2011
OLAADEGBU:

Evolutionists who are the same as humanists came much later than 300 AD. They are the ones revived this dead myth trying to sling mud at Christians, and it is not a scientific theory at all even though it was the accepted theory at the time.

Skeptics often try to ridicule the Bible by saying that the Christian Church persecuted Galileo when he maintained that the earth circled the sun. As a professor of astronomy at the University of Pisa, Galileo was required to teach the accepted theory of his time that the sun and all the planets revolved around the Earth. Later at the University of Padua he was exposed to a new theory, proposed by Nicolaus Copernicus, that the Earth and all the other planets revolved around the sun. Galileo's observations with his new telescope convinced him of the truth of Copernicus' sun - centred theory. Galileo's support for the heliocentric theory got him into trouble with the Roman Catholic church. In 1633 during the inquisition he was convicted of heresy and ordered to publicly withdraw his support for Corpernicus. The Roman Catholic church sentenced him to life imprisonment, but because of his advanced age allowed him to serve his term under house arrest at his villa outside of Florence, Italy. The Christian Church therefore should not be blamed for his imprisonment. It was the Roman Catholic church that persecuted Galileo.

Until the reformation of Martin Luther, the Roman Catholic Church was sole voice, guardian and body of the christian faith. Do not attempt to distance yourself. The Roman Catholic Church defined the foundations of what you call Christianity today.

OLAADEGBU:

Lets start from the science practised ages ago and the claim of the Bible from 3 to 4,000 years ago. Science then said that the earth was a flat disk. The Bible said the earth is a sphere (Isaiah 40:22). When scientists updated their facts today what did they get? The earth is a sphere.

Your interpretation of that quote from Isaiah 40:22 is seriously flawed. Circular does not imply spherical. A flat disc, think a CD, is circular but it is not a ball, spherical.

Analysts say Mr. Akingbola's case reflects pervasive greed not only in Nigerian financial institutions, but often in her places of worship, where flamboyant pastors are perennially preaching messages of prosperity. There is also persistent collusion between government and bank officials, one form of which involves governors and ministers transferring key accounts to specific banks with which they have worked out a profitable arrangement. It remains to be seen if RCCG will issue a statement condemning Mr. Akingbola.

Religion / Re: A Scientific Approach To The Relationship Between Religion And Misery. by devayid(m): 3:22am On Apr 11, 2009
Pastor AIO:

I want to take a scientific approach to look at the relationship between religion and human misery. Now according to the scientific method when we want study such a relationship we must follow a set pattern.

1. First the relationship is hypothesized. So we make an Hypothesis: Religion is related to Human misery thus: It is the cause of Human misery.

2. Then we take a look at the facts and we find indeed that there is plenty of religion about and plenty of misery about too. In many cases we also find that where there is a great amount of Religion there is also a great amount of Misery and where there is little misery there is also little Religion. This all seems to support our hypothesis nicely. There is a positive correlation between the two phenomena.

3. But we must make a control too. Let's us take a look at such societies that are not based on religion, where religion is minimal or non existent. Will we find that Misery is eradicated too? History gives us a perfect example in Communist USSR. That was an irreligious society based on nonreligious principles that actually made a point of suppressing and eradicating religion. Were the issues that brought about human misery eradicated in such societies? Hmmm.

4. As a scientist where does that leave me? What do I conclude about this hypothetical correlation between 'infantile beliefs of religion' and human misery?

. . . let me go away and think about that one.

this is neither a scientific process nor a logical argument.
