Messi hits a hat-trick as Barcelona thrashed PSV


Lionel Messi scored his eighth Champions League hat-trick of his career as 10-man Barcelona defeated PSV 4-0 in Group B.

The Argentine was once again in superb form as Barcelona overcame a low-key start to cruise past their Dutch opponents, with Ousmane Dembele also getting on the scoresheet.

The only disappointment at Nou Camp night was Samuel Umtiti's 78th-minute sending-off for a second booking - a foul on Hirving Lozano.

Before that time, Lionel Messi's magic had long put the game to bed, but PSV will be left to rue the fact that had they made more of the bright start they could have still been pushing for a point.

When Messi opened the scoring in the 32nd minute, curling a free-kick into the top corner after Dembele had been pulled down, it was the home side's first shot on target.

After the break, Barcelona visibly stepped up his tempo. Dembele finally doubled their lead in stunning fashion in the 74th minute and then Messi took over with two more strikes.

A 34-year-old car snatcher identified as Lucky David-Ozuowe, from Delta state, has been arrested by the Bayelsa State Vigilante Service, BSVS, in Yenagoa.


According to Evangelist Parkins Ogede (Chairman of BSVS), the suspect and two other gang members earlier snatched the Sienna car, at gunpoint, in Delta State.

However, the owner of the car contacted BSVS after his tracker indicated that his car was in Bayelsa State.

The group swung into action and Lucky was arrested along the Sani Abacha Expressway, while the other gang members escaped.

Ex-convict arrested few days after leaving prison over a similar crime



There is an adage that says people learn from mistakes but such was not the same for Ayomi Ifabode who was an ex-convict.



Police in Ogun State has arrested an ex-convict, Ayomide Ifabode, for allegedly stealing a car few days after coming out of the prison.

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Abimbola Oyeyemi, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists in Abeokuta.



Oyeyemi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said the suspect stole a Nissan Almera car with registration number AAB 87 TF.

According to Oyeyemi, the suspect was arrested on Monday at Ototo village on Kobape Road where he stole the vehicle after removing it from where the owner parked it at Ijeun Titun area of Abeokuta.

He said the owner of the vehicle, Okeowo Ahmed, had earlier reported at Ibara Division that his vehicle was stolen from where it was parked by an unknown person.



Following the report, Oyeyemi said the Divisional Police Officer, Dada Oluwasegun, detailed his detectives to embark on a discreet investigation in order to recover the stolen vehicle and bring the culprit to justice.



“Their efforts yielded a positive result when the operatives got information that the vehicle was sighted at Ototo community consequent upon which they stormed the place where the suspect was promptly arrested and the car recovered.”- The Deputy Superintendent Of Police said.

On interrogation, Oyeyemi said the suspect confessed that he used a master key and stole the car from where it was parked.

“He also confessed of just coming out of prison yard where he was sentenced to after being convicted of a similar crime. Recovered from him apart from the car is the master key,” the spokesman added.

He, however, said the state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, had ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) for further investigation and prosecution.

Klopp hopeful of Roberto Firmino's return against PSG
Roberto Firmino could return to action in Liverpool’s Champions League clash with Paris Saint-Germain.

The Brazil international suffered an eye injury during Saturday’s win over Tottenham in a clash with Jan Vertonghen at Wembley.


Firmino was taken to hospital following the incident, where examinations confirmed that there was no lasting damage to the player’s eye socket.


Jurgen Klopp remains hopeful that the striker could be available in time for Liverpool's opening match against Ligue 1 champions at Anfield on Tuesday.


“He couldn’t play today, no chance, but we are hoping tomorrow,” Klopp said.

“It is good news [that] it will be close. It was a big relief for all of us.

“When everyone saw the picture after the game, we were all shocked. It’s painful. Nobody wants to have that or needs that but he will be fine.”

Nigerian Writer Chukwumerije escapes being hit by a stray bullet (Photos)



Nigerian and Abuja based writer Dike Chukwumerije narrates how he escaped stray bullet.
Chukwumerije said and I quote;



"Today, my car was struck by a stray bullet. It was parked in front of my house, and I was standing beside it, when something fell out of the sky and punched a hole through the windscreen. At first, I thought someone had thrown a stone or something over the fence. But what I found on my bonnet, amidst the shattered glass, was a spent bullet. Is this how it happens?"

A Ukranian footballer, Oleksandr Shcherbinin, who was present for the Asia Pacific Masters Games 2018 (APMG) had earlier complained of chest pains to his roommate before his heart attack.

An ambulance was immediately summoned to the hotel where he was staying after he collapsed but efforts to rescue him were unsuccessful.

Shcherbinin, 57, died in his hotel room at 6.55am yesterday and doctors at the Penang Hospital confirmed that he had a heart attack.



APMG chief executive officer Linda Geh said Oleksandr Shcherbinin’s family members in Ukraine have been informed about his death.


In a statement released, Geh said “We are working closely with the authorities including the Ukraine embassy in Malaysia for arrangements to transport his body to Kiev,”

APMG publicity and media director Loganath Velloo said Shcherbinin played as a goalkeeper for the Kharkiv Masters team in the APMG’s football 55 years and above category.

He hailed from Kharkiv and he left behind a wife and two daughters.



Players and officials observed a one-minute silence as a tribute to Shcherbinin before the kick-off of the APMG football matches yesterday.

HOW DID YOU BECOME A MEMBER OF THE APC?





I used to be in AD and then to PDP and now APC. While in AD, I championed Akoko South west liberation front which launched the party into limelight when the southwest was still under the grip of AD



While in PDP, I purchased amplifier loud speaker and microphone for the party bus in my local government. I was one of the chieftains in PDP then but in 2014, I discovered Akoko South West was lagging behind in terms of infrastructure. The administration then was poor. So I had to leave the party in 2014.



With thousands of my followers, I dumped PDP for APC and was received by Adewumi Idowu, the ward 3 chairman and later by Daodu Bukola, the Local Government party chairman





*WHAT PROMPTED YOU TO CONTEST THE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY IN THE COMING ELECTION?*



I've been a financial member of the party ever since I joined, I ask them the challenges from time to time.



Some of our leaders now called me in 2016 that since I love the party and I have shown it ever since I joined, that they want to send me to represent them in the house of assembly and this was a call I could not ignore.



Ever since, I've embarked on series of empowerment programmes.





WHAT ARE SOME OF THESE PROGRAMMES?





Every year since 2016, I empower 100 widows. I pick them randomly across the towns in the local government. Empower them with food stuffs, clothing materials and cash amount.



Also the orphanage homes. I visit them especially during by birthday. I give them money, food items, clothing materials and basic things they lack.



Again, I also discovered that some leople, when they fall sick, they can not afford N500 to take care of themselves.



The health centres oftentimes run short of drugs and cannot meet basic heath challenges.



I thought of what to do and what came to mind was having a free medical outreach.



On the day we had the programme, we captured over 3000 people. They were diagnosed for free, they also got free drugs.



That was done sometimes in July this year.



One day I went to the traditional ruler in my town, the Olubaka of OKA KINGDOM. I discussed with him that I was planning to launch a forum where people; students, farmers, aged ones, market women and everyone will come and benefit from.



The kabiyesi was so happy that day and we both sat town to discuss the name to call the forum. That was how Oka Development Forum (ODF) emerged and the forum was registered .



I launched the forum with N3million and the youth forum in my community, Oka Korowa Youth Forum, gave me an award of excellence for remarkable contribution at the level of empowerment in Oka Akoko.



We distributed forms to people free of charge to fill. When the Forum’s Secreatary checked the forms that were returned, we had over 4000 members that joined the forum. We have their forms and passport photographs



They have been benefitting from the forum eversince and we provide refreshments during our subsequent meetings.



In the forum, we borrow people money, we pay shool fees for indigent students, we help market women, we help farmers too.





HOW DOES THIS HELP YOUR PARTY?





Most of the beneficiaries of these gestures are now APC members. They joined because I, the facilitator belong to APC and they benefit from our various programmes. Majority of them decamped to APC



I ensured that they get the APC membership card and their voters card as well. I believe as I empower them the only thing they can give to me is to do what my own party will benefit from. I use my own money to empower them and I believe if they are members of the APC they will be useful. If any aspirants wants to contest, be it senate or house of representative. We know we have a structure.





WHAT SHOULD YOUR PEOPLE EXPECT WHEN YOU FINALLY EMERGE?





I've been using my resources to empower people. I will do more and better when I have access to government resources. I will utilize it very well even to accomplish greater political positions. If I don’t perform when elected as an assembly member that means my future political ambition will die.



I will use that four years as offer up to develop the community, empower people and serve them with truth and loyalty to the leaders of the party and the public.



Going there is not to represent my self. I want to serve. i want to develop that community.





WHAT IS YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH THE LEADERSHIP OF THE PARTY?



Am happy political leaders in the community supported all these, including the traditioner rulers.



Our leaders in the state are also aware of what we are doing and they commend us. These people we have empowered are today members of our party. I have good relationship with the leadership of the party.



Let me state too that our excellency GOV. Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, is doing great. He is hardworking. He is a man with good plans for the state in the areas of infrastructure and agriculture.

According to reports in Spain, former Real Madrid Coach, Jose Mourinho has accepted a one-year prison sentence over allegations tax fraud.

Per multiple reports in the Spanish media, including one from El Mundo reported that Mourinho has accepted a one-year jail sentence and has agreed to pay a $2.2 million fine as he’s alleged to have not paid tax on over $3.7 million earned in image rights in 2011 and 2012 when he was manager of Real Madrid.

As the report points out, Mourinho was said to have evaded the Spanish authorities on two occasions which carry a prison sentence of six months for each occasion.

“Mourinho will accept in writing that he concealed from the Treasury his income for image rights corresponding to the years 2011 and 2012, which he received through a company located in the British Virgin Islands, Koper Services, SA,” the report said. “This conduct will entail a six-month sentence of prison for each of the crimes against the Public Treasury and a fine that will amount to 60% of the fee defrauded.”

They also mentioned that he previously paid $5 million back to the tax authorities in 2014 when the file against him was closed, but the case was then opened up against him in 2015 as Football Leaks stated he had “hidden the property of a New Zealand company, Kaitaia Trust” which was linked to Koper Services.

Mourinho who appeared in court in Madrid last November over tax fraud allegations claimed that and we quote “ I answered, I didn’t contest it, I paid and I signed an official agreement with the state under which everything was definitively closed.”

The Good news is that he would not go to jail, under Spanish law, when a first time offender is handed a sentence of under two years it is served on probation.

Similar sentences have been handed out to Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in the past amongst several other high-profile players for Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Ronaldo paid a huge tax bill of over $19.2 million after accepting he was guilty of not paying tax on image rights between 2011 and 2014. Ronaldo and Mourinho are managed by the same agency, Gestifute.

Lionel Messi has been left off the shortlist for the FIFA's Men's Player of the Year Award on Monday as his rival Cristiano Ronaldo was named alongside Luka Modric and Mohamed Salah.



Messi and Ronaldo has dominated the award for the past eleven years but the Barcelona Legend has been left off from the contenders list for the first time since 2006. After appearing in top three for 11 years, Lionel Messi was omitted when the list was announced by FIFA on Monday.



Egyptian Mohamed Salah, Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo and Croatian Luka Modric were shortlisted for the 2018 Best FIFA Men's Player award.



According to a FIFA statement on Monday, Argentine's Lionel Messi missed out on the shortlist for the 2018 Best FIFA Men's Player award.



Mohamed Salah had scored 32 Premier League goals last season while Ronaldo scored 26 goals in La Liga last season and Modric was named UEFA's Men's player of the season.



The nominees for Best FIFA Men’s Coach are Zlatko Dalic (Croatia/Croatia national team), Didier Deschamps (France/France national team), Zinedine Zidane (France/formerly Real Madrid CF).

It hasn't been the best start to the season for Marcus Rashford. The Manchester United striker was sent off just 12 minutes after being substituted for Alexis Sanchez due to a clash with Burnley's Phil Bardsley.

Rashford hit with the right-back after the two were involved in a challenge in the 70th minute, with the United man feeling he was unnecessarily tripped by his opponent after the ball had gone out of play.

Clearly unhappy, Rashford squared up to Bardsley and pushed his head towards the Burnley player's.

Referee Jonathan Moss showed no mercy as Rashford was given red card, despite the player's disbelief.

While this could be considered a harsh decision, the occurrence has been set in relation to incidents such as this Everton's new signing, Richarlsion was sent off in an almost identical incident just last week, so surely Rashford can have no complaints, and is pretty stupid considering the frustrating way he and United have started the season. He now faces a three game ban for the incident.

United seemed unaffected by the red card, going on to see out the game and end a turbulent week with a comfortable 2-0 win.

Two goals from Romelu Lukaku were enough to secure the three points, who later lost two clear chances, while Paul Pogba also missed a penalty.

The most notable incident perhaps came before the game kicked-off, with a banner criticizing Ed Woodward being flown over the stadium.
