Business / Why Is Gtb Foreign Exchange Rate For Card Transaction Higher Than Black Market?? by idojo1: 4:35pm On Jun 12, 2017
I REALLY DON'T GET WHY GTB'S EXCHANGE RATE IS SO MUCH HIGHER THAN THE BLACK MARKET PRICE!

WHEN THE BLACK MARKET RATE WAS ABOVE NGN400 TO THE DOLLAR, GTB WAS OFFERING NGN320 PER DOLLAR FOR INTERNATIONAL CARD TRANSACTIONS.

NOW, THE DOLLAR HAS FALLEN TO LESS THAN NGN370 AND GTB IS CHARGING ALMOST NGN400 PER DOLLAR!!! . EVEN OTHER BANKS DO NOT CHARGE SO MUCH (EVEN THOUGH NON OF THEM CHARGE CLOSE TO OR LESS THAN BLACK MARKET RATES).

EES NOT MAKING SENSE!!! IS THERE A LOGICAL REASON WHY THIS IS SO? WHYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!

DINO MELAYE QUOTES:
“Nigerian men prefer imported ladies to made-in-Nigeria women. Apologies to my uncle, the Governor of Edo State, we must as a people stop paying dowries in dollars and pounds. It is time for my colleagues here to become born again.”

“However, the seductive and provocative‎ dresses of our students who enter offices of lecturers who have no anointing to resist sexual temptation should be discouraged.”

“Look this is not Bourdillon (referring to the famous Lagos residence of Mrs Tinubu’s politician husband). I will beat you up, ….. impregnate you and nothing will happen.”

Its quite clear that Dino suffers from anger management issues or a related mental health challenge, thats what led to his failed marriage and subsequent relationship, and now it is threatening the future of his political career, he needs urgent therapy, he can still be saved.

israel7732:

hi.
if you want all the load (approximately 2000 watt) to be on the inverter, you need a 5kva pure sine wave inverter. because inverters performs better when running at less than 50% of their capacity.

two options I have for you.

1.
5kva 48v pure sine wave with cccv charging method. LCD showing load in both watt and percentage. showing battery in both volts and percentage. with one full year warranty. @ 140k.

2.
5kva 96v pure sine wave with cccv charging method. LCD showing load in both watt and percentage. showing battery in both volts and percentage. with one full year warranty. @ 160k.

note : all our inverters are made in Nigeria with digital micro controllers.

Bros,

Please can you break down how you got to 2000watts? My friend has a 3.5kva inverter and it carries all the items I listed and a deep freezer.

I found this Wattage rating of typical home appliances on a website:
Fan (Ceiling) 50-75 Watts
Fan (Table) 25-50 Watts
Computer (Desktop) 80- 150 Watts
Laptop 20- 75 Watts
LCD TV (32”) 150 Watts
Refrigerator 160 – 250 Watts
Tube Light (4 Feet) 40 Watts

From my calculation for the items I listed the maximum wattage is 800 watts (i checked, the operating power consumption of the TV is 115W (max) and the speakers 40W (max)). And yes, I understand there is a difference between starting power and running power!

Surely, 5kva is way too much!!! I would appreciate a candid and honest advice. Thank you.

Hello House,

I just got a new place and I intend to get a full sine wave inverter to power (at any instance)
- a 48" LED TV
- a 300W sound system
- a maximum of 4 ceiling fans
- a maximum of 6 energy saving light bulbs.
- 2 laptops.
- charge 4 phones.

The questions I have are:
1. Would a 1.5kva or 1.4kva inverter be sufficient to power all the items I listed above? (1.5kva because I need my generator to conveniently carry the load of the inverter and my fridge at the same time - when needed).

2. On one of the popular commercial websites, I saw a Sukam 1.4kva inverter for N46,500 and a 1.5kva Luminous inverter for N45,000. Which of these 2 products is the best And which should I go for? Can I get it cheaper else where (Both are full sine wave!)

3. What are the best batteries to get and what specifications?

Looking forward to your expert advice and response.

God bless.
Career / Re: Ill Treatment Of Staff At Huawei Technologies by idojo1: 5:53pm On Dec 07, 2013

Another interesting perspective. Thanks for sharing.

Do you mind stating how much they pay outsourced staff with about one year experience?

The general pay for an outsourced staff is about N150k (which comes to about N140k - N145k after tax). Sometimes if you are lucky, you could get about N170k or N200k depending on your project and your supervisor.

However, the "experience" matters alot. How well you adapt after employment is very Key! Huawei is a sink or swim world...do not expect any spoon feeding. If you cant keep up, you'll be blacklisted.
Career / Re: Ill Treatment Of Staff At Huawei Technologies by idojo1: 3:57pm On Dec 07, 2013
I have worked with Huawei for the last 3 years and YES I think they need to do a lot to improve the working conditions of their staffs (outsourced or full) but I have always said these words "working in Huawei could be better, but it could also be a whole lot worse".

I have been on both sides of the fence....after 5 months of post-service unemployment I joined Huawei as an outsourced staff (on a much much better package than I'd ever thought a Chinese company would give). The reminders of those 5 months at home was a huge driving-force, letting me see through all the large work and long hours, and letting me put in my ALL with minimum complaints. I was lucky enough to have my work noticed by my superiors (Chinese and Nigerian) and after spending 16 months as an outsourced staff, I was converted to a full staff with all the benefits (well, almost all) highlighted by Kalan.

Yes....working in Huawei has it perks. I think racism is a bigger issue than maltreatment of staffs mentioned by OP (yes, some of that exists). Certain (keyword: Certain, not all) Chinese staffs are outright and very open racists!!! You also have scenarios where a young Chinese half your age is brought to understudy you and in a few months he is made your "Teamlead". Many people say the coming of the Chinese to Africa is the "second colonialism" and the actions of some of these guys drives home that fact.

I think its because many Huawei staff work closely with the staff of the Network Operators (often working directly from their offices) and on a daily basis we get to see the benefits of working of such major companies. SO, many-a-times we get to compare ourselves and our working conditions with that of the operators and find we come (very) short. This could be very discouraging and disgruntling. At the same time, we work closely with the staffs of Sub-Contractors of Huawei who get even lesser benefits for even more work. The sub-cons look up to "porting" to the vendors just as we vendors look up to "porting" to the operators. (and I just as I believe the operators look up to porting to the oil-and-gas industry)

In conclusion, like I said earlier, "working for Huawei could be better, but could be a whole lot worse!!!!"

SOS! 2005 Honda Accord Goes OFF and ON while driving with P0685 Error Code!

Hello House...
I drive a 2005 Honda Accord (4Cyl Ex). On my way from Abuja to Asaba today, just a little past Abaji, I noticed my radio went off for a fleeting moment and then come back on; and from the corner of my eyes I also noticed the dashboard gauges drop quickly and then come back up. It was as if the car shut down for a split second and then come back ON.

Initially, I taught I was just being over cautious but then it happens again around Lokoja. It happened a total of 8-10 times between Lokoja and Uromi (about 2 hour interval).

On the road from Uromi to Agbor, it happened again but this time it went off for a bit longer causing the car to jerk when it came back ON. Approaching Agbor, the "stop and start" became more frequent and finally at Agbor, it stopped again for a longer period and when it came back ON, the CHECK ENGINE sadcry light stayed permanently ON.

I cautiously managed the car to Asaba (with 4-5 more "incident" along the way, nothing severe tho) and checked the error code with my diagnostic kit. I go the Error Code: P0685 (Description: ECM/PCM Power Relay Control Circuit/Open).

I cleared the code and re-started the car without the code returning. However, I observed when I turn the key to II (without cranking the engine), both the Park and Drive Lights on the gear selector indicator (on the dashboard) stays on for a few seconds, and the Fuel/Temperature gauges only rise after the lights go out!

I haven't driven the car since I got back...first thing I did since then is post this! Please can anyone clarify this issue for me and how to resolve. This car is as precious to me as a child at old age. Any assistance would be greatly greatly appreciated.

Hello House...good evening!

I recently noticed the SRS Indicator Light on my 2005 Honda Accord has been staying on longer than usual. Sometimes in comes on in the middle of the drive. At other times, it comes on after I park. Before now, it just stays on a few seconds after I start the ignition and then goes off.

Should I be scared Please advise on what to do.

Many thanks.

Events / Sos....wedding Venue In Abuja Needed ASAP by idojo1: 11:07pm On Oct 01, 2013
HELP! HELP!! HELP!!!

I'm getting married on the 11th of January 2014 in Abuja and I only just realized that the venue I had hoped on all along would not contain all our expected guests.

I am looking for a very reasonably priced but classy venue in ABUJA that would take 300-400 guests with adequate parking space and easy accessibility. My wife (to-be) and I are not based in Abuja and we are saving all our leave-days for the wedding and honeymoon so we can only run in and out of town every other weekend.

Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated as we are have no idea where to look. We need to conclude the venue ASAP so we can prepare the IV's.

Thanks in advance....!
Car Talk / Re: Sienna, Jenju: What Is The Best Oil For My Suv? by idojo1: 10:33am On Aug 22, 2013
Hello Sienna,

Top of the morning to you.

I fairly recently purchased a 2005 Honda Accord 2.4L L4 engine. It is my first car and I intend using for a loooooong while so continuous maintenance is at the very top of my list.

It had about 123k miles on it when I purchased it in April and now it has about 126k miles.

My question(s) is:
1. What is the best oil to use? (The manual says 5W-20 , but does that also apply for Naija weather and at the current mileage)
2. What is the ideal mileage/time between oil changes?
3. Ideal mileage between transmission fluid change and what brand/type of transmission fluid is best?
4. Any other maintenance tips you can give would be highly appreciated.

Thanks in adavance.
