blawi1: @ maxiserve they may ask your relationship with the man, if you say your sister's husband, then you may be asked "what is your sister's status, why isn't she the one inviting yo"u, what do you say? If she overstayed a tourist visa, they may assume you want to do the same and deny you. @blawi1, what if he doesn't mention his sister at all? So she's out of the picture? Assuming she has overstayed her visa, I'm assuming that is usually the case.... His brother in-law can invite him...and he could say he doesn't have any other relative.. If they ask about his sister, he can say she visited and has left, or what do you think? |

Good morning VO, well done on your dedication to answer each and everyone of us. God bless you. I have an NIV question.. If a Nigerian university undergraduate with a UK visiting visa (first) wants to apply to visit his brother in law in the us after seeing his sister ( so would buy a round ticket if given a us visa), what his chances? He actually hasn't travelled before. He has all his school documents and will be sponsored by brother inlaw for the us leg of the travel. Thanks |

^^^^ of course not!!!!! He has to wait the 10 year ban out. Why did he lie? It is people like you that spoil the whole process for other genuine applicants. Did you guys think that the BHC staff are foolish? 1 Like |

It does not bother me like the world is ending. I just have the rational thought that he maybe still thinks about her. I will let him know |

Interesting that they call numbers on invitation letters. That is a good development. |

VisaOfficer: I would think so too. Except the DS-160 does not ask for extra info after asking 'Do you have any (other) relative in the US'? If he could quote 'Sister on NIV category but on way to becoming an LPR' would be awesome. That part only gives options (LPR, US Citizen, NIV, etc) to choose from so I think they maybe just make a decision from there without much ado. Thank you |
Travel / Re: I Am A U.S. Consular Officer: Ask Me Your Visa Questions. by igbankebabe: 2:09pm On Aug 08, 2013 |
VisaOfficer: True, but I am not an LPR yet. Soon though, but not yet. So I'm still on the NIV Category. And he would have to say my status if he mentions me. |

VisaOfficer: Thank you! The denial was about 6 months ago. I will give him the heads up about screaming out the recent promotion. Would it be a good thing if he kept me out of the picture for now and only mentions my spouse incase I'm in the US when he applies again? If asked about his sibling who was there the last time? What do you think? Thank you so much. God bless you |

[quote author=VisaOfficer] Greetings! 1) What are considered a change in circumstance? Could this be a promotion at work, and a salary increase? These would count, yes. They might not outweigh other factors involved, though -- I really can't say without actually interviewing you. 2) Is having a relative really a negative stance on an application? The truth is it's kind of neutral. On one hand, if it's not a parent, sibling, spouse, or child, then the relative can't file an immigrant petition for you, so maybe that's a negative; you might be using the tourist visa as a shortcut to immigration. On the other hand, if you don't have a parent, sibling, spouse, or child in the US, your ties aren't as strong to the US and you'll probably go back to your home country. In my opinion it's only bad when someone who listed a spouse or parent in the U.S. on past applications shows up for a new interview and tells me s/he has no family there at all. That's when I think, "Why does this person not want me to know? I bet s/he's going to overstay." 3) Do Visa Officers call relative to confirm at all to at least know the real intentions of the applicants? Sometimes, if our suspicions are awakened. 4) Do Visa Officers call employers of applicant to confirm the status? Sometimes, if our suspicions are awakened. 5) If this applicant got a different country's visa on his passport without actually using it, would it help? Again, there are so many factors involved, it's hard to say. A good travel history helps. It really depends on the whole picture. I hope this helps! [/quot Thank you VO. You are amazing. Narrowing in on number (2) which you explained so well - I am married to a Green card holder who is about filing for US citizenship, and until mine (green card) is processed, I visit in and out. At 1 time I was visiting, my brother applied to visit and he was truthful about having relatives here - me (niv) and my spouse. He was ultimately denied. Now he has a job promotion and a pay raise, which has been the significant change since he applied. Can he apply again in the future and not mention me (assuming I'm around at the time - I visit in and out from the UK), because that might have been a reason; and maybe only mention my spouse who would be inviting him but cannot file a green card for him. Can him having a serious girlfriend be taken seriously as he isn't married? Our folks are not in the US. He genuinely only wants to just visit and first time put family visit. Maybe next should be vacation and family visit? Thank you again. And forgive my rambling |

^^^^ like I just advised the previous poster, there is a thread for UK Tier 4 visas so it would do you good to go there instead. But to answer your question, English language is the official language for both educational and administrative platforms...so yes |

^^^^ relax and pray for a good outcome. You submitted relevant documents and have a good case. You have paid the bulk of your tuition so that is a plus. There is a UK thread for tier 4 visas. Go on there and calm down. Just a week more of waiting. Wish you the best |

waka-about: I think the Lekki generally has shorter processing times. What is a territory visa? |
Travel / Re: General UK Visa Enquiries - Part 2 by igbankebabe: 12:13am On Jul 28, 2013 |
^^^^ if applying in Lagos, apply at the Lekki VFS office... Their Transit Visa processing time is shorter. Depending on the kind of Transit Visa (Airside - Airport and no Immigration Customs clearance, OR Landside - immigration customs clearance to go out of Airport and stay in the UK for up to 48 hours), you need to submit every doc as you would any normal visa application - employment/school letter, bank statements pay slips, A VALID VISA FOR WHERE YOU ARE TRANSITING TO, A VALID BOOKED AND PAID FOR RETURN TICKET. If applying for a Landside, I would suppose you should provide accommodation details of where you would stay for ONLY UP TO 48 hours....and all the shenanigans that come with that.... If hotel, paid booking confirmation; if staying with a relative/friend....invite, utility bills, etc.. |

Vicjustice: "...and as an adult, you are supposed to be financially independent to meet the requirement for a tourist or pleasure visa; for example, you can't be sponsored by anyone if your intended travel is for the purpose of tourism or romance rather than official or compelling family visit (no sponsor's bank account can cover you except in compelling limited circumstances whereby it is deemed reasonable for his sponsorship to be considered)". Yes Vicjustice, I saw this.. This full time student doesn't work, and is applying for a family visa. His siblings support him financially. Is he expected to have money? If he doesn't work, and receives from family? It is a family visit. Sorry for the many questions. |
Travel / Re: General UK Visa Enquiries - Part 2 by igbankebabe: 6:14pm On Jul 20, 2013 |
I did but didn't see anything specific to this. Just that parents/guardians sponsoring a student (adult) stand a little chance. I do not really understand it |
Travel / Re: General UK Visa Enquiries - Part 2 by igbankebabe: 4:55pm On Jul 20, 2013 |
So would it then be better to say he does not have any savings? As a student, and not present any bank statement? Since a sponsor is taking care of all costs? |
Travel / Re: General UK Visa Enquiries - Part 2 by igbankebabe: 2:42pm On Jul 20, 2013 |
Thank you Vicjustice, I have looked at the article. So if a student is applying for a family visit to see his brother over the holiday, not exactly tourism (but will do some sight-seeing and shopping), why would he not stand a chance if being sponsored as an undergrad student? Na wa |

How do you mean? I just asked a simple question. And yes, I am in the same situation of having a student visit. I would not lie if it were for me, after all this is a faceless forum.. We all just want awareness. I would really appreciate if you explain undergraduates' chances. Thank you |

Vicjustice: Vicjustice: Hi Vicjustice, can you expand more on this because I have the same situation. Why does he have no chance at all? Because he's a student? Are undergrad students rarely given visas? |

Tzetzefly Hi, Is it ok for an undergraduate student to apply for US visiting visa 3 months before he intends to travel? He has never travelled out before but already has a UK visa, so he's thinking of visiting the UK then US in a round trip during Christmas. But he wants to apply next August/September. What would you advise? I also throw this out to other gurus. Thank you |

Hi Gbenge 77, Tzetzefly and the forum geniuses. I have a question. If one applies for a US Spousal visa, does the US Embassy hold on to the international passport? My sister has a b2 visa that expires in 6 months but she also wants to apply for a spousal visa so by the time it's processing, she can still travel on her b2. Is this doable? |

And just incase, maybe call the embassy to ask if you can swap your present DS-160 with a new one under the same interview date. Since you have already booked your ticket. It is worth a shot. Before calling, fill out a new form so if they ask for a new ds160 reference, you can readily give them. No harm in trying that at this point since you can't reschedule. All the best. tzetzefly: |

They would know because I would assume you need to show a letter of confirmation of registration with details. And this would show if it is a paid or free conference, then amount if paid.. phatrat: Hello Guys, please how do the USA embassy know a conference has been paid for ? |
