The capture in January of Mali’s central town of Konna
by Islamist militants prompted France’s military
intervention. With 4,500 French troops on the ground,
the insurgents were quickly ousted from northern towns
– to the delight of some residents unhappy about their
imposition of strict Islamic law, which banned smoking.

The Super Eagles delighted Nigerian football fans by
winning the African Cup of Nations, hosted by South
Africa, in February. It was first time the Nigerian national
side had played in a Nations Cup final since losing to
Cameroon on penalties 13 years ago.

Zimbabweans went to the polls twice this year – once
in March in a referendum on a new constitution - and
again in July in presidential elections, won by
incumbent President Robert Mugabe. Many of his more
fashion-conscious supporters have been seen sporting a
new designer label emblazoned with his signature.

In neighbouring South Africa, bling was more in vogue
with the fashionistas – who dressed up here for a
fashion competition at the horse races in Durban.

Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo continued to be
dominated by the rebellion led by M23 fighters – seen
here training at a military training camp in May. But
following a major offensive by the army and a newly
deployed UN intervention force, the rebel movement
admitted defeat in November.

In June, Senegal’s guard of honour prepared to welcome
US President Barack Obama, who was on the first leg of
his African tour and which also took in South Africa and
Tanzania.

Two years since the al-Qaeda-linked group al-Shabab
was driven from Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu, services
and hobbies have been rejuvenating life in the city. Here
a crowd watched young boxers train on Lido beach.

Three states in north-eastern Nigeria were put under
emergency rule this year to allow the security forces to
fight an Islamist insurgency. For the first time in four
years, the Eid durbar in August was held in Maiduguri,
the capital of Borno state and the city which had been
the base of the Boko Haram militant group.

Kenya was hit by a terror attack in September when
Islamist militants attacked the Westgate shopping centre
on a busy Saturday, killing 67 people...

... the siege went on for four days and Kenyans of all
faiths and political persuasions united in their response
to the attack - and the hashtag #weareone began
trending on Twitter.

Sudan witnessed deadly protests prompted by the
removal of fuel subsidies. Here demonstrators used their
phones to upload protest clips online to spread the
word. Officials in October said more than 85 people were
killed – though activists say the number was at least
200. Sudan's economy has been in trouble since South
Sudan ceded in 2011, taking with it 75% of the oil
reserves.

Sudan and South Sudan agreed to resume pumping oil in
March after a bitter dispute over fees – but the situation
in the South, one of the least developed regions of the
world, unravelled in December in a dispute between the
president and his former deputy - with overtones of an
ethnic conflict, which left more 1,000 dead by the end of
the year.

The world mourned the death of Nelson Mandela in
December. The anti-apartheid fighter and South Africa's
first democratically elected president was born in 1918
and grew up in the village of Qunu, pictured here, where
he was buried on 15 December.

Mr Mandela's widow Graca Machel and his ex-wife
Winnie Madikizela-Mandela (L) were among some 4,500
family members and foreign dignitaries at the state
funeral.
Religion / Re: Question: Did God Fulfil His Covenant With King Ahaz? (Virgin Birth) by JesusG: 10:09am On Dec 21, 2013
WARNING:THIS POST IS LENGHTY
its a big joke for one not in the Messiah to seek to understand scriptures. They can never understand. So if you really want to know you have to truthfully become a Christian.

Mark 4:10-12 NIV
When he was alone, the Twelve and the others around him asked him about the parables. [11] He told them, “The secret of the kingdom of God has been given to you. But to those on the outside everything is said in parables [12] so that, “ ‘they may be ever seeing but never perceiving, and ever hearing but never understanding; otherwise they might turn and be forgiven!’ ”

1 Corinthians 1:18 NIV
For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

2 Corinthians 2:16 NIV
To the one we are an aroma that brings death; to the other, an aroma that brings life. ....

But let me try at least to help your intelligence concerning prophecies in scriptures :
What is the “Abomination of Desolation”?
James MacDonald
In Matthew 24, Jesus gave us some clear connecting
points between Daniel 9 and the Book of Revelation. If we
are going to be diligent about Bible reading, we are going
to have to learn how to read prophetic passages. God is
very clear that a prophet speaking for Him must be exactly
right or he should be killed! (see Deuteronomy 18:20–21)
This means the “prophets” featured in the supermarket
papers wouldn’t last long!
Some of the things that happen through church history to
make the fulfillment of prophesy apparent to the people of
God are what are called “touchdown fulfillments.” Not the
ultimate fulfillment, but an intermediate fulfillment. Take,
for example, the prophecy of Isaiah 7:14, “A virgin shall
conceive and bear a son.” There was a fulfillment of that
in Isaiah’s day; and then ultimately in Christ.
The prophesy of Joel 2 mentioned in Acts 2 about young
men dreaming dreams and old men seeing visions. That
was fulfilled in Joel’s day and again in the birth of the
Church, and there will be an ultimate fulfillment of that
prophecy in the time ahead.
So it is with the Matthew 24 passage and the
“abomination of desolation” that Jesus mentioned.
Interesting, in 175 B.C., Antiochus IV, a Syrian king, took
the name Theos Epiphanes which means God Manifested.
He marched through the Holy Land, down to Egypt. But
because he was turned back (in 170 B.C.), he had such
anger that he took it out on the Nation of Israel. He went
into the Holy of Holies in the Temple and offered a pig on
the altar there. And then he forced Jewish people to eat
that meat and to bow down to him.
Now Theos Epiphanes had a bit of an ego problem, right?
“Just call me God Manifested.” Eighty thousand Jews refused to bow
down to him and they were all murdered in the streets of
Jerusalem. Daniel’s prophecy was fulfilled and will be
fulfilled again in the end.
Biblical prophecy is not a fantasy movie script. These are
realities. And God has given us times in history to see a
touchdown fulfillment of it. So we’re like, “That could
totally happen. I can see that happening. It has happened
—It will happen!” Like that. The ultimate fulfillment of the
abomination of desolation is yet future, as Matthew points
out when he notes, “let the reader understand.” Let’s
anticipate God’s promises every day!

then in the mary issue please read this passage carefully.
Luke 11:27-28 NIV
As Jesus was saying these things, a woman in the crowd called out, “Blessed is the mother who gave you birth and nursed you.” [28] He replied, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.”

jesus all through his ministry never emphasised mary.

guy how those passages relate now you self see am:
Job 42:8 KJV
Therefore take unto you now seven bullocks and seven rams, and go to my servant Job, and offer up for yourselves a burnt offering; and my servant Job shall pray for you: for him will I accept: lest I deal with you after your folly, in that ye have not spoken of me the thing which is right, like my servant Job.
Proverbs 15:19 KJV
The way of the slothful man is as an hedge of thorns: but the way of the righteous is made plain.
Proverbs 15:8 KJV
The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord : but the prayer of the upright is his delight.
Matthew 16:19 KJV
And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
Please lets stop giving ourselfs issues. The 'righteous man ' / upright man is the guy alive not the dead man (Saint) same as jobs example. also the word translated 'saints' in th bible is same as 'God's holy people' see for yourself.

Nigeria's issue is not worth abusing yourselfs over.
Lets learn the lessons of the percieved errors we've made, then when the next opportunity comes[2015] we'll put who we believe is best- not based on sympathy, ethnicity or religion but who is best.
And it must'nt be the major political parties- which most of the time hasn't helped us but whom that party presents ,must be our focus.
Have a peaceful evening!

Its an extremly easy process this year, you don't need to give someone money to buy a card for you, this time around there is no scrath card. Just walk into any Zenith bank branch and a Pin will be generated for you with in a print-out for N300, no bank charges. I did mine in uniben. Go to the cyber cafe and apply using the pin written in the printout. No biometrics(thum capture), no Hod is signature, no dean of student affairs or even local govt. chairman is involved. They have your full details once you type in your Jamb Reg no including your local govt. area and they cannot be edited.
